It's only 30fps on the PS4 and that's how a lot of people played it

142

u/MrZephy 9h ago

Is the Xbox one version 60 fps?

143

u/sherbodude 9h ago

No its 30.

15

u/G_Art33 8h ago

Idk, elden ring ran silky smooth on my Xbox X no lag no problem except online because my internet is crap. If my experience was average I think there is absolutely nothing to complain about there.

I did most of the game with no co-op in offline mode.

26

u/microsoftisme3000 7h ago

Xbox one x or Xbox series x? One is 30 series has a 60 mode

-16

u/G_Art33 7h ago

Series X I was not aware of the difference, I guess. However, I do typically play everything in the highest graphical settings that I can on whatever platform I’m playing in so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was 60 and not 30.

Yeah, the original comment was talking about how it ran on the previous generation, which they thought was fine, even though they are actually running it at 30 FPS. They just have no problem with a stable 30 FPS on previous Gen. The One X was just a slightly beefed up Xbox One, but it never set the new standard of 60 FPS.

Your Series X and PS5s are current Gen where the standard rose to 60 FPS for the first time ever (on performance mode at least) so it's normal for that to run at 60 FPS. They were talking about a 30 FPS console being fine for them.

But if you always choose the highest graphics setting, then you're probably choosing quality mode which is at a higher resolution, upscaled 4k, and for some games it improves textures, assists, lighting etc. too, but it sacrifices the FPS to achieve that and goes back to the old 30 FPS standard.

So if you're choosing quality mode every time instead of performance, you are still playing games at 30 FPS, not 60. I personally always choose performance because I can notice the difference of 60 FPS over 30 10 times more easily than upscaled "4k" over 1440p. You can still choose quality mode if you want, but I really think you'd truly feel the next generation performance upgrade if you always chose 60 FPS. A buttery smooth 60 FPS truly is night and day compared to a choppy 30 FPS. The game is always in motion so if I'm always at 30 FPS, it's too blurry to even see the resolution increase.

Try comparing performance mode to your standard of quality mode and I'm sure you'll agree that the improvement of 60 FPS is much more noticeable and a game changing experience. 30 FPS is just so jarring to me. I could tolerate it on some games after adjusting like Bloodborne where it's the only option, but I remember quiting Dishonored 2 on my PS5 because it was stuck at the PS4 version's 30 FPS and it was just unbearable on that game. Some games I just got to play on PC instead.

Edit: sorry if that was too long. I didn't expect to type that much haha.

1

u/lycos2226 6h ago

Not always. Halo Infinite runs at 4K 60 in quality mode and 1440P 120 in performance, for example.

2

u/No_Public8938 6h ago

Yes, there are some games that do that. On Playstation I think the 4k mode for Ghost of Tsushima is also at 60 FPS. But I think that mostly happens for games that were also built for the much weaker previous Gen so it's easier to give a bigger upgrade like that on current Gen hardware.

I would still say the vast majority of modern games on this Gen are only 30 FPS on quality mode, especially if there is no previous generation version also made.

If this person is always selecting quality mode, they are definitely experiencing 30 FPS in many of their games.

Jesus Christ. My 15 year old PC with a 1080 can run it at 60. Why people buy consoles past the 360 or ps3 era surprises the fuck out of me.

26

u/FlakednShaked 7h ago

1080 came out after the PS4 and Xbox one, and cost $600 compared to a PS4 costing $400. Why wouldn't your PC play it better?

16

u/TardDas 7h ago

Because console bad! PC good! or whatever..

I’ve been a PC user most of my life, and even now the elitist bs still annoys the fuck of out me.

-16

u/Putrid-Tap3992 7h ago

Bro I have a video card that is a single fan amd released around the time of the 360 that runs it at 60. I have an old laptop I put Linux on that came out at the same time the 360 elite came out, and it runs it at 60....

11

u/Queasy_Gold3372 7h ago

What the hell are you talking about? Why the fuck does it matter if its a single fan or not?? Old gen consoles are weak and they play it at 30fps. They were released in 2014 at 400usd what did you expect?

Also no, your laptop from 2007 is not playing elden ring at 60fps.

-5

u/Putrid-Tap3992 7h ago

Oh really? Like the weak GameCube that was native 60fps or the Dreamcast that was 60fps. Game companies went backwards to save a few dollars and you accepted it.

Also, I mentioned a single fan, because back then, almost all gpus were single fan. A two fan card was considered giant.

4

u/cheekyru 6h ago

You clearly have no understanding of what the reasoning is behind what you're talking about.

1

u/Putrid-Tap3992 6h ago

Yes I don't know why companies decided to go from 60 fps down to 30 again. Correct. Please explain it

5

u/lycos2226 6h ago

My brother, the gamecube, was not universally 60 FPS. Super Mario Sunshine comes to mind as a good example, twilight princess, windwaker etc.

Most of the important games on gamecube ran at 30.

1

u/Putrid-Tap3992 4h ago

You clearly do not know what natively means

u/aque78 7h ago

Now you're just straight up lying, and no one here's gonna believe that

3

u/flissfloss86 7h ago

Lol no you don't

3

u/Federal_Setting_7454 7h ago

Your 10 year old Gpu did not release around the time of the 21 year old Xbox 360.

1

u/Putrid-Tap3992 7h ago

Did you not read that I have a laptop from that time and a separate GPU from that time? Like seriously? Did you just gloss over the entire comment?

Bro I literally said "amd". Do you honestly think that amd makes the 1080? Like really? Honestly? Also I mentioned a laptop....I mean what

u/Still_Want_Mo 7h ago

The ps4 came out a long time ago my friend

-1

u/Putrid-Tap3992 7h ago

Not more than 15 years ago.

4

u/Still_Want_Mo 7h ago

I think you have your timeline wrong. The ps4 was released in 2013. The 1080 was released in May of 2016

2

u/ToothZealousideal297 7h ago

In this latest case, it’s running around 30fps on the Switch 2, which is portable, so it’s pretty cool. It almost definitely could’ve been optimized a little further, but all early impressions and demos were catastrophically bad, and Fromsoft has a bad reputation for optimizing anything in general, so hanging around 30fps on a system that hardly has anything from them is a pleasant surprise. And I’m not wading into comparing the Switch 2 to other hardware; that’s really not the point.

2

u/Putrid-Tap3992 7h ago

Ya having it on a portable console is another thing. That's definitely worth it weight for sure. I just can't imagine playing a game on a TV screen in 30 fps in 2026 or hell anything past GameCube. Gamecube ran natively in 60fps. It's insane that companies just went backwards to save a few bucks and people accepted it

0

u/minimim-wage-enjoyer 7h ago

I don’t like troubleshooting so I just go with the platform that lets me stick a disc in, install, and then play.

0

u/MiserableBend1010 2h ago

Less than 30

36

u/Shot_Reputation1755 9h ago

I don't think so, pretty sure it was locked to 30 too

19

u/mythicbreeze 9h ago

Double standards running at a smooth 30 fps

-16

u/slayer828 8h ago

Nothing smooth about 30 fps

15

u/BlazingShadowAU Might Have Some Gorm 8h ago

If its a constant 30fps, thats literally the definition of smooth. 'Good' no. 'Smooth' yes.

5

u/Cute-Acanthaceae-193 8h ago

30 fps of not being smooth is bloodborne.

Terrible frame times with terrible drops and input lag, the game doesn’t feel great and not appealing to look at, only enjoyed it at my modded ps4 pro with 60 fps and lowered res or at my pc emulated.

Elden ring on 30 fps on switch 2 feels snappy, and looks amazing, and I am used to playing Witcher 3 on 144 fps or Elden ring at locked 60 on pc, and I can assure you, the switch 2 even though it’s 30 it has great input latency and not a mess to look at.

So yes, it’s not smooth 60, it’s stable 30 that feels great.

2

u/cellphone_blanket 2h ago

also steam deck (smaller market, but elden ring being playable at all on it was a showcase for a lot of people)

-4

u/helpmegetoffthisapp 9h ago

Series S or Series X?

19

u/Shot_Reputation1755 9h ago

They said Xbox One

-3

u/Affectionate_Unit142 8h ago edited 8h ago

No they said the target was 30 fps across all consoles including Xbox.
Ignore me gta 6ó 30 Elfen 60

3

u/Shot_Reputation1755 8h ago

What?

2

u/TruePadawan 8h ago

Had a stroke at the end

3

u/MrZephy 9h ago

Xbox one?

-2

u/kiritoonis 9h ago

Im pretty sure that they can both run it on 60 anyway.

0

u/ForTheBread 9h ago

Did you mean the "One S or One X"?

-2

u/DoggTheGhost 8h ago

Doesn’t matter. Both locked at 30fps.
Series X and Series X is 60 though

1

u/ForTheBread 8h ago

I am just correcting the user on the version of the console they were talking about.

-2

u/Affectionate_Unit142 8h ago

It's been stated many times by the devs thare target is 3fps across all consoles at lunch and have no plans to make a 60 fps patch currently.

2

u/DoggTheGhost 8h ago

Both Series X and PS5 is aiming for 60fps.

EDIT: Elden Ring. Not GTA VI obviously

-1

u/Affectionate_Unit142 8h ago

Every new outlet with official coverage has them stating Xbox and PlayStation across the board are 30 fps targeted . You can do your own Internet sech but note tech radar and tom heard were both good sources have stated that Rockstar exec have confirmed that GTA 6 was running at 30 FPS on the console. GTA 6 will only run at 30 FPS, even on the PS5 Pro and Xbox series x because that is the targeted fps.

Now I won't say they locked it 30 because we may find out post lunch they left it unlocked and maybe we go up 60 sometimes but no it's currently 30fps.

Note I may have lost the point in drunk and going to bed.

33

u/CarlLlamaface 9h ago

I cap most graphic-intensive games to 30 on my PC simply because it keeps the GPU at a frosty 50-60 degrees and makes less way less fan noise as a result (plus it lets me have higher settings than if I'm trying to get a smooth 60+ fps).

At the end of the day if the frame rate is stable there's really nothing wrong with 30 fps for single-player open world games, or any non-competitive game really. It's when the game's capped at 30 fps because the system is struggling to run it in the first place and has constant lag spikes that it's an issue, but then that's a problem with the performance, not with the concept of a 30fps experience.

46

u/PhatCatTax 8h ago

I keep mine capped at 31fps just so that I can come here and brag that I'm superior to CarlLlammaFace. Ive waited a long time for this day.

Booyallama CarlLlamma
In your Face face.

22

u/CarlLlamaface 8h ago

Nooo my pp is shrinking in direct proportion to the delta frames :(

8

u/IAmBLD 6h ago

I cap mine at 29 fps so I can outspeed Carl in Trick Room.

5

u/squidkid3 5h ago

I cap mine at 548 fps so that choice scarf and tailwind allows me to outspeed trick room and go first anyway

3

u/Skullcrusher 7h ago

I cap my games at 13fps cause that's my lucky number

1

u/N00seUp 7h ago

THE HUMAN EYE CANT EVEN SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 30 FPS AND 31 FPS!

1

u/PhatCatTax 4h ago

It can if you're superior to CarlLamaFace.

20

u/volticizer 8h ago

30 FPS is like okay. For the switch 2 it's fine, it's a handheld, I wouldn't expect more, but intentionally doing that to yourself is wild when you have the option to get better frames. I'd drop my resolution and whack an upscaler on before going below 60 frames.

0

u/CapJackONeill 4h ago

Dunno man, it was worth losing 30 frames to play Cyberpunk with ray-tracing. I get the hate for RT, but it's juste amazing with it on in this game.

2

u/Shot_Reputation1755 8h ago

Same except with 60 to 72 fps for me

2

u/ahferroin7 7h ago

Exactly this. If it’s actually a stable 30 FPS with almost no variance then it is indeed fine for a majority of games. It’s when you have random drops or spikes in the frame rate that 30 FPS becomes an issue.

1

u/bong_residue 7h ago

I’m someone that unless it’s an extremely smooth and clean 30, I can do it, but sometimes 30 gives me a major headache and makes me nauseous.

1

u/rinwyd 7h ago

Uncap a 30 fps locked game and you will see a problem with performance.

1

u/Aggressive_Chain_920 5h ago

30fps is okay if you are using a controller. With a mouse 30 fps feels so choppy

0

u/PsychologicalSign433 5h ago

I can just not imagine this. I run everything at minimum settings. Even if I'm getting 200+ FPS, Graphics don't matter at all compared to frame rate.

0

u/SvenniSiggi 3h ago

As someone who has played games for decades.

A stable 30 fps is just fine for most games. However, there are games where responsiveness matters a lot more.

I tend to cap games for 3 reasons. To not push the system so much to keep temps and wattage down. Lastly to keep the framerates stable.

Examples. I often keep games at 60fps because i tend to play games where responsiveness matters more but 30 fps is fine for many games. BG3 f.e you would never notice needing more than 30fps.

Its for games like cs2 or kcd2 or f.e elden ring, where i pump the fps up to 150 fps.

For that slight extra edge.

2

u/I_think_Im_hollow 9h ago

Tbf, the PS4 version was the one that ran better on release. The overall graphics were worse, but it was way more stable than the PS5 version.

2

u/oedons_rooster 9h ago

Going to a ps5 pro after a 4 was life changing. Took a solid minute to adjust to the speed

2

u/DL_Omega 6h ago

didnt ps4 version have a 60fps capped framerate mode? i remember people playing the ps4 version on ps5 so they could get a locked 60 experience which the ps5 version could not do.

1

u/sherbodude 6h ago

I think you're right, I remember something about that. I think the PS4 version without the day 1 patch was uncapped, and ran at a lower resolution, so it had a higher framerate on the PS5

1

u/soggycheesestickjoos 8h ago

it also hovers around 30 in quality mode on xbox series s

1

u/SmokeyOkeyDokey 8h ago

Played Bloodborne on ps4 so literally didn’t have an issue when Elden Ring released

1

u/boidudebro13 8h ago

???? I played the whole game on ps4 and that did NOT feel like just 30 i could have sworn it was at 60 😭

1

u/levus2002 5h ago

I played it on pc with integrated video card so 720p and lowest setting. I think it ran like 30fps. It was still fun.

1

u/Grand_Bar_1948 5h ago

Thanks for the insight, actually explains a lot of my frustrations with the pc 60fps version

1

u/Due-Leather-6210 1h ago

aw thats 30 fps? I completed on Ps4. GTA 6 is gonna look dope then. Great news!
