It took me so long to find the cases with the form factor I wanted that ALSO accommodated slip covers. These are Sony MD Jacket Cases.

My only complaint is that you don't have the option of putting them in opening first to better secure them.

And damn, something about the looks of this Prism series style just does it for me.

I ditched the pocketable case concept and I'm just focusing on making a good, aesthetically pleasing, disc storage solution. Here is my latest 5-disc case.

I'm gradually refining everything. Right now I'm still trying to make the magnets feel more secure and satisfying. Also, this design is easily scalable for 10 disc solutions as well.

Just stumbled upon this retro setup. The satellite dish for music downloads is such a wild concept looking back. 1999 was a trip!

Initially I bought the blue bestmedia used discs in the case and was thinking that will be it. Then I got hooked and was tons of fun, so i got the rest. Now I own 10 best media, 5 maxell color, 5 sony color, 5 sony niege and 2 basf. A second 24 disc 3D printed shelf is in the way…. so I can put them next to each other and them not looking weird. And not buying anymore minidisc …. those futuristic magneto optical technical miracles are tons of fun.

Selling a working Pioneer Carrozzeria Avic V77MD. I posted about fixing this unit using parts from another Avic a few weeks back. Buyer can take the other unit too, to either try to fix or for spare parts, etc. Refer to pics for the pile of parts. Wiring harness included. And AV input works, I connected my Xbox up to the screen to test.

Long story short, I bought too many minidisc car stereos from Japan (buyee) and only ended up using one in my boombox. I'll post that build up soon (unfinished product in pics for reference). I have a working Kenwood dpx 8000mj I'll post for sale too (double din radio, holds 4 minidiscs and 1 cd). I just don't have pix yet of it all fired up for a sale post.

Pulled my old MZ-R700 out of a drawer last week after probably five years of it sitting untouched. Popped in a disc and got the dreaded slow motion playback, pitch dragging down like the batteries were dead even with fresh ones in. Classic worn drive belt symptom.

Ordered a replacement belt kit online, waited about two weeks for it to show up, and finally sat down last night with a set of tiny screwdrivers and way too much patience. The hardest part honestly wasn't the belt itself, it was getting the case open without stripping the little screws since they're so soft on these older units. Took my time, used a magnetic tray to keep track of every screw and where it came from.

Old belt had basically turned to goo, which explains a lot. New one went on fine once I figured out the right tension and routing. Buttoned it back up, tested with a disc I recorded off my turntable years ago, and playback speed is normal again. That warm little chunk sound when it loads a disc still gets me every time.

Not a huge repair in the grand scheme of things but it's satisfying to bring a machine back from the dead instead of it just sitting there as a paperweight. Anyone else been doing belt replacements lately, or is this still a common failure point across most of the R and S series units?

Hiii, I’ve recently become very interested in the aesthetic of Minidiscs and I am looking for a 3-D model. I’ve seen this query asked before, and it didn’t gain much traction, ultimately resulting in the OP using their phone to scan a disc they already had on hand. I am new to Minidiscs and unfortunately do not own one. I’ve found models from people like Ryo Suke and Silverwing, but Ryo’s appears to be private and Silverwing’s is paywalled. I’d very much appreciate it if anyone has a model that they would like to share. Thank you!!

Had this player for a few years now, and it had always had a disk read error and would rarely play. So last week I took it apart, cleaned all of the gears, re lubricated and it's working like a charm.

Picked this up a little bit ago and found the matching cassette deck, as well as hunting down the remote. Finally got around to refoaming the speakers that were a crumbly mess. Never seen this before prior to stumbling across an eBay listing then going down the typical rabbit hole to complete it. Puts out quite a punch for a small system.

I'm trying to clear some old minidiscs I have to fill them up with music, but when I try to enter full HIMD mode, I get this screen, even after entering my password to give it full permission to make changes.

I'm using version 0.3.2-1.4.2 on a Mac with osx 10.14 and have enabled all possible accesses for the app.

2 or 3 months ago i came to get help about batteries for a MZR90 :) The walkman worked enough that i could record ONE disk but for some reason I can't get to record another one.

Symptoms are: record looks ok, but playback is awful ; there are pauses (like buffering?) every 2s, so the music is hashed. I tried SEVERAL discs, with battery, with charger, etc etc. Still no chance. I have tried to clean the lens with an earbud and alcohol, being extra gentle there. Still no chance.

What could have been wrong? and most importantly: how to diagnose closer, how/where to find parts to repair it? Is it worth repairing?

Finally joined the community! After years of searching locally, I got a Sharp MD-MT88.

I’ve wanted to get into MiniDisc for years, but finding a unit where I live felt almost impossible. It felt like they either didn't exist here, or anyone who owned one held onto it like an ancient artifact. And importing it was just too expensive for me, so I just had to be patient and hope I'd stumble across one someday.

The wait finally paid off. I managed to get a Sharp MD-MT88 from a wise old gentleman running a small vintage radio shop. We ended up having a great conversation about physical media, the history of the format, why MiniDisc never quite caught on in our region, and what made these little machines so special to him back in the day.

Today, I brought it along on a family outing, and it made the whole trip more memorable. There’s something immensely satisfying about the mechanical click of the disc loading, the tactile controls, and holding your physical media in your hands in this day and age.

It honestly baffles me how such an over-engineered, charming format lost out to the soulless ipod and digital MP3 players that followed. I really wish this format had survived longer, but I'm just glad to finally be part of the club and keeping it alive today!

A couple of you might find this handy - it's been working well for me. I've only tested the TUI and mac app. Let me know if anything is broken and i'll try and fix it.

I bought a Sharp MiniDisc case a few months back and thought it'd be fairly simple to recreate for 3D printing. It holds 4 discs securely (almost a little too securely 😂), allows for creating them in some wacky colour ways. Thought I'd share here in case anyone is interested in using it 😊

My audio friend of 20 years who is in the home audio business and has been for years called me one day and said he was thinning out his collection and wondered if I was interested in having a set of NHT xD speakers with dual subs for free. I immediately said yes, although I am not sure where I'll put them, and we scheduled time for me to pick them up.

Well I went to go pick all of the boxes of speakers, amplifier/equalizer etc and when he was carrying the box out he said that he was sorry but one of the boxes, the amp/eq box, had some damage to it and that something was stuck on the outside of it. I told him no worries that it's fine if there is any damage to the box.

As he was coming out he appeared with the amp/eq box and then a Sony MDS-JB930 box. He said he hasn't used it for years but I'm welcome to have it since he knew I was a Minidisc fan. I immediately accepted, said thank you and was super excited.

I got home pulled it out and it was 100% complete and in mint condition with manuals, sales receipt, remote and all the plastic, foam and packing material. Hooked it up and it works beautifully!

Just got into mini disc and wanted to use my dad's old player, but for some reason it does this and the display is all goobered up, put a fresh battery in it but its still pretty temperamental, any ideas what's going on?

Just got myself a Sony JE780 deck and had to give it a good clean and change the belts, now it works fine but the life of me i can not get it to record via NET MD and Web minidisc pro.

I can wipe disc via the app but it has an error when I try to record. I am using the app version on a Windows 11 PC. Any ideas on what I need to do?
