Just looking for some advice on this specific bike.

So I grew up on dirt bikes, had my first 700cc Sport bike at 17 ripping around Los Angeles traffic, rode more dirt bikes, and eventually built a Custom Harley in my late 20s riding around Boston. Then I sold everything, went back to school got married, had kids, kids are now older. No bikes for 25 years.

I’ve never had a motorcycle endorsement so for giggles I just took the MSF course as a bucket list item and aced it so I did the next natural thing.

I’m picking up new Sportster S that is 900 miles away. I can have it shipped or for the same cash as shipping, ride it home over the course of 2-3 days. Am I crazy?

I’m honestly a little nervous about rigs on two lane highways now but probably just because it’s been years since I’ve done it. My route is very site seeing friendly with options to jump on state highways if i wanted or avoid them with near paralleling routes for large portions.

Should i just have it shipped and get re acquainted with motorcycles and a new bike at a easy pace or rip it off and go all easy rider with nothing but a set of racing leathers a helmet and a backpack for 2-3 days?

Oh, and I’ve never ridden a Sportster S so I have no idea how taxing a day on it will be.

I dont drive my bike that fast so i feel good about the protection i get from my carhart heavyweight hoody and sweatpants if i lay my bike down at 40mph or so. Obviously romper suits are better but unless im going faster than 80mph my Carhartts will protect me pretty well from the initial high speed shredding on the pavement. Are these 400$ hoodies any better or are they just noob bait?

I know they are very different bikes, but the price points are close enough for me to consider the comparison. I've had a KLX250 dual sport which I loved, my only complaint was a lack of power. I also owned a hoopty CBR600 which I wasn't a fan of, I hate the sport bike position and didn't like the weight or sharp headtube angle. I love the standard riding position, and only plan on riding a short suburban commute to work and riding to family's house 45 minutes away taking backroads only. I may want to add a rack for small packages, but that's it. No mods planned, I just want a cheap reliable bike that handles great and will be a little fun on country backroads. I know I love the dual sport/super moto's, but I have also been curious about the SV650 for years. Please share your opinion, especially from those that have had/ridden both.

Got offered a 2009 GS500 as a trade on FBM for a $700 PC I was selling. Has 13k miles, clean title and matching VIN. I have some small engine experiance (I own a 1998 Seadoo SPX jetski, been working on that with a friend helping me), and have basic tools (a good socket set, and hand tools like pliers, vice grips, some box wrenches, plastic razors, etc). I could borrow a more powerful tool from a friend if I really need to, or buy it myself.

Some info he sent me: The previous owner more than likely has dropped it as a scratches on both sides, the carbs would have to be synced, and it would need a new rear tire, I plan on doing both, but I’m really either trying to get a PC or a different bike. The bars are good, I'm the one who put them on, and it does not steer uneven.

I asked about the carb sync and he said "you can hear it", and "Idles smooth and and there isn’t too much vibration besides the type you get from having a combustion engine between your legs, but nothing excessive". Based on a quick search it does not seem hard to do a carb sync, but it is possible the carbs need to be rebuilt/cleaned."

I attached one video of the bike running, will comment with some photos, and will update when he sends over the close ups of the "scratches on both sides".

I'm mainly wondering about value, can i rip it around for a bit, then sell in the spring/summer for $1000+? What would be the value on it? How much $$ do you think I'd have to put into it? Id have to bring it to a shop for the tire to be installed and balanced.

Yup...It's me again, the delusional guy from the broken cbr650r. And back again with the game of "what am i not seeing?"

This time it's not a crashed bike, wow progress, but honestly makes it weirder to me this one.

On august 16th this year, this 2015 Yamaha MT-07, 55kW (full power, not the A2 restricted version) get's listed, 11,300 km, 2nd owner. Listing says "bom estado," recent service done, small aesthetic details, ready to ride. Photos look clean, no damage, no scratches, symmetrical, everything original except what looks like an aftermarket exhaust (SC Project style, not confirmed). Also noticed some water droplets on the front fairing in the pics, so it looks like it got washed right before the photoshoot.

Asking price started at 4,950€ and has been dropping 50€ at a time, now sitting at 4,700€, over what looks like at least a week or two based on my notification history (screenshot attached, the ones with an red arrow on them, though I don't think I caught every single drop).

Here's the part that's bugging me: for the year and this kind of mileage, MT-07s around here are usually going for around 5,000 or low 5,000. This one is priced below that range with a fraction of the km other listings have. On paper that's a good deal. In practice, a good deal doesn't usually sit there getting picked apart 50€ at a time by a seller who clearly isn't getting bites.

11,300 km on a 10 year old bike is also only about 1,100 km/year, which either means it's been babied or it's been sitting, and sitting comes with its own list of problems that don't show up in photos.

So, questions for people who actually know this bike or buy used ones regularly, or that just have more than two brain cells like unlike myself:

1. Aside from the obvious ones (listen to it run, check for accident damage), what should I generally be worried about on a low mileage bike that's mostly been sitting for years?
2. Anything MT-07 specific I should check? I keep seeing people mention stuff like the regulator/rectifier, clutch basket noise, or cam chain tensioner on these but I don't know how much of that is real vs internet folklore for this generation.
3. Has anyone dealt with a "keeps getting cheaper and still doesn't sell" listing before and actually found out what was wrong with it? Because it just doesn't seem like he really needs the money and just trying everything possible. Idk...

Anyone who can help me wire this up gets bonus points in the next life, but also need to know if it should be installed before or after the oil cooler? also installing an inline oil filter and basically need to know best way to assemble it all.

I've been riding for 3 years now. People said I was crazy to get a Slim as my first bike, and it was hard at the beginning but now I can't imagine riding anything else! I did drop it during my first year but I picked it up on my own, that gave me the confidence I needed to lean in to this 700lb beast 😊

Hi everyone

After changing the chain and both sprockets, I started noticing this noise coming from what sounds like the transmission/front sprocket area.

It happens when accelerating or decelerating. The bike was not making this noise before the chain and sprocket replacement. The front sprocket has a rubber noise reduction.

So far, I have checked:

* Chain slack — tested both ends of the manufacturer’s recommended range (2.5–3.5 cm)

* Rear wheel alignment

* Chain guide looks ok

* Chain lubrication done

* Torque specifications for all relevant bolts/nuts, including both sprockets

What else should I check?

Has anyone had the same problem? Any ideas would be appreciated!
