I've been riding for 3 years now. People said I was crazy to get a Slim as my first bike, and it was hard at the beginning but now I can't imagine riding anything else! I did drop it during my first year but I picked it up on my own, that gave me the confidence I needed to lean in to this 700lb beast 😊

Only one question is it normal for the bike to star and smell funky gasoline and change the colour of the exhaust like for a moment

my boss is selling me a 2005 Suzuki GXSR 1000 with 10,480 miles for 6k. He does maintenance even without riding. I feel like it’s a good deal but I’ve only ridden 300cc bikes would it be a dumb choice to make?

I dont drive my bike that fast so i feel good about the protection i get from my carhart heavyweight hoody and sweatpants if i lay my bike down at 40mph or so. Obviously romper suits are better but unless im going faster than 80mph my Carhartts will protect me pretty well from the initial high speed shredding on the pavement. Are these 400$ hoodies any better or are they just noob bait?

Hello everyone, what is an efficient plan to learn to ride a motorcycle? Currently, am focusing on learning how to control my throttle, but am not sure if that's an efficient way to continue to learn.

Can I balance on a motorcycle? - I don't know, but if by 'balance' you mean, not fall over, yes; I learnt, that once you apply throttle, the motorcycle, 'balance' becomes similar to a bicycle.

Do I have clutch control? For instance, can I start riding with only releasing the clutch - No, I was told to combine throttle with clutch release to start moving

How have I been practicing? - Riding in circles.

Have I learnt how to switch gears? - No

What videos could you guys recommend to follow for exercises/skills? I was told I learnt best when I see watching.

I have a 2023 Yamaha R7 with only 1,096 km on it. I was out of the country for most of the last two years, so the bike has spent almost all that time sitting and was only ridden/moved a few times.
I’m back now and want to start riding it again. The battery was completely dead, so I’ve already replaced it with a new one.
Since the mileage is so low but the bike has been sitting for such a long time, what would you recommend checking or replacing before I start riding it normally again?
I’m mainly wondering about the engine oil, chain, brakes/brake fluid, coolant, tires, fuel, etc. Do any of these need to be replaced simply because of age/time sitting, even with only 1,096 km on the bike?
Also, after doing the basic checks, would you be comfortable riding it a short distance to a Yamaha service center, or would you have it transported there instead?
Anything else I should specifically check on an R7 that has been sitting this long?

My 2005 BMW R 1200 rt seeped oil from the front of the motor which progressed to a a bad leak over time.i put a new o ring with little rtv and it went back to seeping oil again. Apparently the plastic cover was is warped. I started leaking again. Not wanting it to run low I've been adding oil regulary. I noticed some engine noise so added more oil thinking it was low, you cant see through the sight glass. It was over full already. I filled it up. I didn't think it would matter the store is less than 100 yards from my house. I figured the extra oil would blow out onto the road. It stalled out en route. So I pushed it onto the sidewalk and walked to my shop for some tubing and a pail and siphoned out a quart cranked it again Iwas only two houses away from mine. The bike stalled again at the top of my driveway. I tried to crank it again was rewarded with a lot of acrid smoke and the electric cut out WTF have I done?

You can ride perfectly and still get hit by someone staring at their phone. Watch your mirrors and always leave yourself an escape path. Stay safe out there.

I’m looking for some help diagnosing an issue with my 2021 Yamaha Tracer 7 (CP2) with around 24,000 km / 15,000 miles.

Recently the bike has started behaving differently at idle.

Symptoms:
Idle has become noticeably less smooth/steady than before.
The bike occasionally stalls while idling.
It seems to happen more often when the engine is cold, although the idle doesn’t feel completely smooth when warm either.
The check engine light has now also come on.
Every time I start the bike, whether the engine is completely cold or already warm, the RPM briefly shoots up to around 3,000–4,000 rpm before dropping back down.
Once running and riding, the bike generally seems to run much better than it does at idle.
The battery also seems to drain fairly quickly if I leave the ignition switched on without the engine running.

I have checked the battery/charging system and the numbers seem healthy:
Engine off: around 12.6 V
During starting: around 11.0 V
At 4–5k rpm: around 14.0 V

So I don’t currently think the charging system is the main problem.

The bike has around 24,000 km on it. I’m wondering if this could be related to:
Idle Speed Control / ISC valve
Dirty throttle bodies
Throttle body synchronization
Vacuum/intake leak
MAP/TPS or another sensor
Spark plugs/coils
Injector/fueling issue

The high 3–4k RPM flare on every startup, including with a warm engine, combined with the unstable idle and occasional stalling, makes me particularly suspicious of the idle control/throttle body system.

I’m going to read the stored fault code before clearing anything.

Has anyone with a 2021+ MT-07 / Tracer 7 / CP2 experienced something similar?
What ended up being the cause?
And are there any specific hoses, sensors, throttle body/ISC components or common failure points you would recommend checking first?

Yup...It's me again, the delusional guy from the broken cbr650r. And back again with the game of "what am i not seeing?"

This time it's not a crashed bike, wow progress, but honestly makes it weirder to me this one.

On august 16th this year, this 2015 Yamaha MT-07, 55kW (full power, not the A2 restricted version) get's listed, 11,300 km, 2nd owner. Listing says "bom estado," recent service done, small aesthetic details, ready to ride. Photos look clean, no damage, no scratches, symmetrical, everything original except what looks like an aftermarket exhaust (SC Project style, not confirmed). Also noticed some water droplets on the front fairing in the pics, so it looks like it got washed right before the photoshoot.

Asking price started at 4,950€ and has been dropping 50€ at a time, now sitting at 4,700€, over what looks like at least a week or two based on my notification history (screenshot attached, the ones with an red arrow on them, though I don't think I caught every single drop).

Here's the part that's bugging me: for the year and this kind of mileage, MT-07s around here are usually going for around 5,000 or low 5,000. This one is priced below that range with a fraction of the km other listings have. On paper that's a good deal. In practice, a good deal doesn't usually sit there getting picked apart 50€ at a time by a seller who clearly isn't getting bites.

11,300 km on a 10 year old bike is also only about 1,100 km/year, which either means it's been babied or it's been sitting, and sitting comes with its own list of problems that don't show up in photos.

So, questions for people who actually know this bike or buy used ones regularly, or that just have more than two brain cells like unlike myself:

1. Aside from the obvious ones (listen to it run, check for accident damage), what should I generally be worried about on a low mileage bike that's mostly been sitting for years?
2. Anything MT-07 specific I should check? I keep seeing people mention stuff like the regulator/rectifier, clutch basket noise, or cam chain tensioner on these but I don't know how much of that is real vs internet folklore for this generation.
3. Has anyone dealt with a "keeps getting cheaper and still doesn't sell" listing before and actually found out what was wrong with it? Because it just doesn't seem like he really needs the money and just trying everything possible. Idk...

Hi everyone

After changing the chain and both sprockets, I started noticing this noise coming from what sounds like the transmission/front sprocket area.

It happens when accelerating or decelerating. The bike was not making this noise before the chain and sprocket replacement. The front sprocket has a rubber noise reduction.

So far, I have checked:

* Chain slack — tested both ends of the manufacturer’s recommended range (2.5–3.5 cm)

* Rear wheel alignment

* Chain guide looks ok

* Chain lubrication done

* Torque specifications for all relevant bolts/nuts, including both sprockets

What else should I check?

Has anyone had the same problem? Any ideas would be appreciated!

i’m looking to buy a motorcycle soon and have nonstop researched all about them, but i can’t find much about insurance so i figured i’d ask here. i’m currently 18F but am aiming to get my bike when i’m 20, as that’s when i’d get my full motorcycle licence. the bike i really want is a 2025 zx6r, and i know their insurance rates are insane, is there any tips on how to lower it at all? i got a quote and marked it as a pleasure use, and used the cheapest deductibles, still leaving it at 390$ a month. i’m also open to buying the z900, z500 SE, z650, and any of their ninja counterparts, but i can’t get that “that’s the one” feeling with any of the others. i also want the zx6r as my friend recently passed on one, so it’s partially to honour him. (this was posted on my alt aswell)

Motor seems fine, when i start it it runs okay but as soon as i give a bit of power it just stale. What should i do ? It has been rebuild (not by me) and ran fine until it lost power one day.. pushing the shoke stales it too

I got a 2012 fz6r as my first bike and need some advice about the condition of the sprockets. The bike has 18000 miles on it. I was told it sat for a year before being sold. When I got it. I changed the oil, flushed the coolant, new brake pads and brake fluid flush, new battery, new spark plugs, cleaned the after market filler that was in the air box and cleaned and lined the chain. The chain was rusted and super dirty. It definitely needs replacing but I’m not sure if it is just from sitting. The chain is did x ring chain so it’s not the stock chain idk about the sprockets. Do these look like they need to be replaced.
