Did it for myself, but maybe someone else would find if useful, it applies dynaudnorm filter based on the content, for 2.0 it just applies as is, for 5.1 and further the filter is applied only to the center channel (cuz that's where the dialogues are, so you can hear everything properly without affecting side channels). I'm on macOS but supposedly it should work on Windows as well.

mpv-vapoursynth is a portable package customized for mpv that includes Python 3.13.15 and VapourSynth R79.

You can easily use it with mpv-build.

Simply search for mpv-vapoursynth in mpv-build and select it. Then download mpv.zip. All packaging steps will be completed directly in your browser.

However, due to a limitation of VapourSynth, you still need to double-click vsscript.bat once to register the VSSCRIPT_PATH environment variable.

For example:

After setting the environment variable, you can run a test file from the command line. The package includes a simple example that converts the video to grayscale:

I built a small suite of GLSL shaders + Lua scripts for mpv that adds real-time 35mm projection emulation on top of your files — organic grain, gate weave, lamp flicker, halation, dust/hairs, plus an analog audio mode (35mm optical track / vinyl) and an ambient-light fill for scope films. Everything renders live on the GPU; your file decodes bit-perfect, nothing gets re-encoded.

4 presets (keys 0–4), a full in-player menu, cinema-style subtitles, ambient modes for 21:9 content on a 16:9 screen.

Hey y’all, I installed mpv gpu next on my Mac Pro m1 recently in terminal couple of months ago and here are the versions I have - mpv (0.41.0), libplacebo (7.360.1), ffmpeg (9.0.1) and here’s my configuration build in terminal’s nano sheet -

With this stack on my device I can play dolbyvision locally either profile 5 and profile 8 both of them work perfectly. But I am curious about one thing…have you guys ever compared the tone mapping between your device if y’all are using a similar build and similar versions of mpv and libplacebo to a certified Dolby vision tv or display either a mini led or oled tv ?

If you guys have ever done that is the tone mapping between these two devices similar or does it vary a lot ?

My app has libraries for manga, comics, books, TV, film & anime, and a comic reader, ebook reader and a video player. So I had an idea to build a taskbar where you can open multiple comics/manga/videos, minimise them and open them back up again.

And since then, I ended up only having more ideas that kept steering my media app deeper and deeper into the OS aesthetic.

The video side of the app is built around mpv. Theatre is basically a stylised Stremio client with an mpv player, while Vault is the local media side of the app.

The player itself takes heavy influence from Harbor's and Kodi's video players. I wanted the actual playback experience to mimic how video players, or apps in general, operate in an OS.

I did that by making the taskbar allow the user to open multiple videos, books and comics at a time, minimise, maximise and switch between them seamlessly.

A movie isn't a player screen that takes over the app until I close it. It just becomes another open session. I can minimise it, open a book, open another video, jump into a comic and then go back to the first movie from the same taskbar.

The player remembers the session position when you minimise it and restores the player and seek position when you open it again. Streamed and downloaded video both go through the same player and the same Continue system.

II've also ended up piling a bunch of other stuff into the player over time: online subtitles, episode navigation, switching sources from inside the player, Up Next, Skip Intro/Recap/Credits, PiP, screenshots, GIF recording, a metadata-rich pause card that shows what you're watching (you can see this in the trailer), A-B repeat, a sleep timer, work-in-progress Watch Party support and playback statistics.

For local video, you can watch videos through the same mpv player in Vault, the local media side of my app.

Vault is part of a much larger streaming and media aggregation engine, but for me local media still remains a priority because I watch a lot of fan cuts of movies, TV and anime, stuff like Clone Wars movie fan edits, Naruto Kai or One Pace, and there isn't a catalogue in this world that keeps track of them.

I wanted subtitle downloading in mpv without the Python/subliminal dependency chain of the existing options, so I wrote a single-file Lua script that talks to the OpenSubtitles.com REST API directly.

• Ctrl+u searches by moviehash (computed in pure Lua) plus the guessed title and shows a fuzzy-filterable picker: exact hash matches are ranked first. Press again to reopen the cached results if you picked wrong.
• Ctrl+U is manual mode: edit the title and pick any language from the full list.
• Optional auto mode that respects the free 10 downloads/day quota: it only auto-downloads on an exact hash match, never on a guess.

Needs mpv 0.39+ and curl. It's the first release (0.1.0), so feedback is welcome, especially from Windows users; that path has had the least testing.

I recently played a 4k video, and of-course it stuttered and frame-dropped like crazy since my device couldn't handle playing it but it also had a great desync which made the audio finish around 20+ seconds earlier than the stuttering/frame-dropping video which played in silence in that duration. I rechecked the same video with low-quality video decoding setting enabled and the sync was perfect- both audio and video finished at the same time so it wasn't an inbuilt audio-video desync to the video file itself.

I'd rather have 1 frame every 5/10/20 seconds than having a better framerate but audio is so desynced that audio finishes perceptually earlier than the video like 5-20+ seconds difference.

Update the app through Obtainium or in app update for convenience , hope you like the update .

The main reason for this is I am constrained by disk space and internet data usage and want to get the most out of my 1440p OLED screen. I use anime 4k for anime but it looks quite weird for live action stuff. Would be great if someone could recommend some solutions

I had mpv as my default player for years, yesterday I moved the file to another drive and since then I can't use it as a default player, the app works just fine but I can't simply click on the video and wait for it to open, it opens a window to chose an app to open the video from and even if I chose mpv it doesn't work and even the app icon doesn't appear on that window, just the name. I tried to delete it and reinstall but nothing changed

I want the player to run multiple instances in separate windows, not separate app icons.

IINA does this but it's a buggy mess so I refuse to use it. It's so bad that it drops frames, which never happens with the standalone build.

I was wondering if there’s a way to set a specific amount of screenshots & have Mpv stop automatically after it’s reached that amount? I’m using Mac & I use opt + s to start taking screenshots. But for example I would like to cap it around 80.

I'm trying to create a profile on MPV that changes the subtitle style to make them look like Crunchyroll's, and I'm happy with the result. However, as it stands now, it doesn't follow the rule that a subtitle should appear at the top instead of the bottom. Oh, by the way, it's enabled with F5 through a script

This is a profile I modified using ChatGPT that I tried, but it doesn’t respect the font. Unfortunately, changing `sub-ass-override` from `yes` to `scale` doesn’t seem to change anything; changing it to `force` sets the font correctly but doesn’t respect the style changes, so I don’t know what to do. If I can’t fix this, I guess I’ll just stick with the previous profile

Is there a feature where I can resume playback?

Example: I am watching a 50 minute video. I watched till 34:25. Then I closed the app. Next day, I started that same video. But I want to play it from 34:25. Is it possible?

Or is there anyway to see how much I have watched that video? I remember this to be possible. But I don't know how to do it again.

I’m looking for a media player on Android that’d:

1. be audio-only-files-friendly. All mpv players I’ve tried only show a black screen when playing my audio files, which I often confuse for my phone being locked.

2. support playlists. I often play files in a row which come from different folders, or are in the same folder, but not in the order I want to listen to them.

3. allow to play files at speed ≠1.

I’ve tried mpv-android, mpvKT, mpvEx and harmonoid, the first 3 don’t support 1 or 2, and harmonoid doesn’t support 3 and isn’t open source. Right now my least bad option is VLC, but it tends to skip parts of my files, so I’m looking for an alternative. I’m posting on this sub because ideally it should be mpv-based, but if you know of something else that’s preferably on f-droid, I’ll try it too.
