been re-listening lately, i'm a sucker for the classics. all time fave is by far the strexcorp plot, but within that it's the summer reading challenge+valentine's day subplot

After listening to the cat show episode this week, I decided to try and incorporate all we know about this silly kitty in a not too cluttered way. For examples, the pincers that I made as spider fangs (as they can also be called pincers), or the wings made tiny and kinda useless, like a remanant.

I’m a lifelong fraghead, and a nightvale listener of 13 years (wow!) I will say, when I read the scent description I was disappointed, as it is just described as herbal and ‘desert’. But I was a fucking fool to doubt these guys. This is such a unique scent and a very fun journey.

I may or may not have been smoking on that secret police strain before I tried this, so tldr at the end.

-It opens with a sharp freshness that read to me as aaaalmost citrus. But not. And an astringent, peppery, grandpas aftershave. Like the memory of the orange grove. And the ghost of buddy holly.

-Those fade quickly into SAGE SAGE SAGE ALL HAIL THE SAGE BRUSH. Fresh and green and cool, like cold night air. VERY strong, I could practically taste it. I enjoyed this a lot, but if you don’t like sage.. well..

-Then it starts to get really sweet. Not like candy, but in an earthy, back of the throat kind of way. Like when you bite into a fresh fennel bulb with the dirt still on it. Reminiscent of snow.. This lasts for a while.

-Then it turns woody, not like a forest but like really old plywood. And a liiitle smoky. almost like the burned out shell that used to be Louie Blasko’s music shop, you all know what I’m talking about.

-The sage is quieter now but you know she’s still there. You get to sit with her for a long time until she turns sleepy and almost erotic for lack of a better word. Soft cotton, slight powder, clean skin and a freshness from the rosemary, almost minty, but just barely. The sage, smoke, and previous ‘aftershave’ scents have all hung around softly. It ends like laying in bed with your lover, or, your empty sheets where they once were.

TLDR: It’s not feminine, but it’s not fully masculine. Very strong sage, smoky, cool, fresh and sweet. Very unique, a lot of thought went into this. It lasted noticeably for about 16 hours and through one outfit change. The best performing fragrance I’ve had in years. I’m definitely gonna go out and have some weird experiences with this guy 💜

I’m on audiobook and about halfway through. I’m at the part where Diane was just talking to the man in the tan coat holding the deer skin bag and saw him run off into the distance. Diane and Jackie started talking and I cannot remember for the life of me where or when Diane got the note that said King city. Can someone remind me? I feel like I need to go back because I can’t remember when we switched from focusing on Jacqui’s life to focusing on Diane’s but I’m too curious to go back before I finish it

Because what is life without death? Death, in a way, brings meaning to life, for what is the point of experiencing a life that never ends? There will always be a later to explore. But the threat of death brings a finality to life, it brings urgency to life. And it is cruel, and it snatches people too young, and yet it is so mortal, to care about death. To anticipate an end. To avoid having your life cut short. It is so mortal to want, and yearn, and love, and all consciousness has an end. It is inevitable, the call of the tomb. We all return to the earth someday, decaying nutrients cycling back into the dirt, to feed new generations.

Because what is the point of a story that anticipates no death? The curse of immortality is to lose and lose and slip away into oblivion, with no end to the curse that consciousness becomes. Already, without that curse, people turn to ways to soften the harsh realities of the world, and the cruel words of the mind. To ignore death as an inevitable result of a story is to ignore its legacy.

For death is only the end when you believe the story is about you, and yet death is not the end of your story. You live on in the memories of people who knew you. You are a patch of the quilt that makes up your loved ones, and even death cannot erase the mark you made in the world. Because even as your memory fades and dies with the people who loved you, the Earth remembers your existence. She is nurtured by your body, and she shares the love of your short existence with the new life that springs from your grave.

You will never truly be gone, because just as you are made from the dust of dying stars, the atoms that made up your body will never cease to exist, for matter cannot be created or destroyed, it only changes form. And millennia from now, the matter that made up your body will occupy the universe, as the building blocks that make up the temporary shape it holds in a snapshot of time, may look completely different in a matter of seconds or eons, but the fact remains that it was once you. And your very being lives on in the universe, for as long as it exists.

Be proud of your place in the cosmos, listeners, it is small, and yet, it is. How unlikely, how fantastic, and stupid, and how wonderful it is that you get to play a small part in the beauty of the universe unraveling.

Hi! I come here with a silly nightvale fanart, because... I discovered nightvale a couple weeks ago and I LOVE IT. I reached episode 100 today and listened to the audiobook and it's so goooood!
