My dad was in the navy and I'm embarrassed by the things he says lol it never ends I guess

The military isn't know for promoting critical thinking. I don't mean this in a disparaging way, as this is just how the chain of command works in pretty much any military around the world. You don't get points for individualism and you do get points for toeing the line. It's drilled into you the second you step off the bus. Pier pressure on steroids.
