Absolutely. After Bangkok we went home with them to Ubon where they and my other Cousins lived, and got to visit with all our Thai family we had not met before, and see their farm.

My cousin really wanted to send us home with rice from her farm, but sadly US customs wouldn't have appreciated that, so I had to decline.

I'm pretty sure dried foods are okay. I took home beef jerky and dried squid without issue.
