As a millennial father of 4 including a teenage daughter, this started to be me at home a few years ago and now it’s slowly creeping into my work personality.

I have a slightly less militant version of the guy. Divorced and everything.

and if i dare seek compensation for my property destroyed by bizarre misunderstandings, i usually end up getting tied up in life-threatening danger so rich nepo babies can steal from each other, with no actual pot of gold to ever be had in the first place

I aspire to be the Dude.

I'm essentially retired in my 50's and give absolutely zero fucks about anything other than my kid, wife, and pets.

Dope, dude! My current retirement plan is just kinda dying. Congrats haha

We're on the same path.

I grew up poor in the Appalachians and even there I was made fun of due to my K-Mart clothes (think Parton's "Coat of many colors").

I pushed through after living abroad for years, met my wife, realized her potential and pushed her to become an executive in a huge health care system.

My family suffered for years but my folks decided to start a business that all us kids had to sacrifice for, but it really worked out.

Now I just do what I can and try not to worry about shit. So many terrible jobs in the interim.

Executive!! Now I understand why you added your wife! (Joking) Love her too(mine not yours). Even if we are complete opposites. #BALANCE

This will sound weird but hear me out: I spent some time in a zen temple in Japan and honestly did not get it at 20 years old. Just didn't make sense to me at all.

The other day I realized what the hell I was doing and why I shouldn't worry about things beyond my control.

I'm over 30 years older and it's weird it finally hit me. Zen isn't really a religion as much as a philosophy.

It literally took me 30 years to figure out that you can't figure it out.

nah you still give too many fucks if you maintained a wife hehe

It keeps me on that line between sanity and insanity.

That and my garden. And Miller High Life.

Frankly, she maintained me. I have no idea why.

Are you attempting to engineer a bitter lonely future?

Because driving away the people who love you is a really amazing start on that project.

But you do you … and that attitude suggests that everyone [else] would be better off that way. As an excellent TV show (almost utopian) once asked, "wouldn't that be for the best?".

I like to think I'm the dude, but on my best days I'm Donny and most of the time I'm Walter.
