Pico de gallo surprise

So today I made a rookie mistake.

I didn’t see onion listed as an ingredient on the chicken nachos, and my brain went “finally, a safe food.” I got excited… and forgot to say “no onion” just in case. Like a fool.

I also didn’t bother looking up the ingredients I didn’t recognize, because apparently I enjoy living dangerously.

My brain had decided that pico de gallo (who are you?) was salsa verde (sometimes suspicious, but usually tolerable).

I opened my food and was immediately greeted by giant chunks of purple skinned onion absolutely everywhere. My disappointment was palpable and my meal was ruined.

Learn from my mistakes. Pico de gallo is FULL of enemies.

Always. Say. No. Onion.

Just wanted to say….

How refreshing it is to find a community of like minded individuals doing the lord’s work on here. I too, have been a victim of so many of these growing up and well into adulthood.

“Just pick them off”, “There’s so few on there I bet you can’t even taste them”, the dreaded sneak attack…the list goes on and on.

I once ordered Mac & Cheese from a bar only to find to my dismay - the kids menu staple littered with diced o-words from bow to stern.

Thank you for speaking up for victims everywhere.

Natural Flavors Vendetta

I have a food intolerance to onion and garlic. I have always thought that Hellmann's mayo didn't have onions and garlic, but recently I double checked and it contains natural flavors!!!

I reached out and got this form response from the company:

"Natural Flavors are used to enhance the flavor of our products and help make them delicious and unique. The origin and composition of the Natural Flavors is proprietary information.
Please be assured, Unilever places the highest priority on the safety of our products and consumers. If Natural Flavors contain any of the FDA defined major food allergens (milk, eggs, wheat, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, sesame) the allergen will be listed in the ingredient statement and/or in a Contains statement. All major food allergens are controlled for at the production facilities to prevent cross contamination."

Anyone know the truth on the onion content in Hellmann's?

Other ones I have checked:

Valentina - yes contains onion/garlic

Think Jerky - yes

Turkey - generally is just rosemary. need to confirm which companies.

Pickles - generally yes

Please post below if you have fact-checked the onion content in 'natural flavors' or 'spices' for any products!

FUCK ONIONS!!! THEY FUCKIN STINK lol

The other day, so 2 days ago, I helped out with prep in this...fucking horrible kitchen (that's a whole other story, honestly). They made me peel and chop whole yellow onions, like a big tub of them.

The crying part was horrific, like it fuckin smeared my makeup, so I was pissed on top of the suffering. Then I wake up this morning, and my hands freakin' *REEK* Yes, I've washed them several times since and showered. So why do I still stink this bad??!!

Damn onions. Damn them and also damn all the people who like them that force innocent people who don't to suffer in the name of onions.

Rules refresher

Post image
111 Upvotes

Take special note of rule 5.

Yes, we're all united in our horror and disgust at such images, but I don't think that qualifies as "related to onionhate".

I don't take issue with individual users who post. I know you just want to share your horror with those who will understand.

But these posts don't contribute anything to the sub, and many of us would rather not see them.

All I am asking is to please think carefully before posting.

A Tale of an Onion, To Hate or Not to Hate

A Tale of an Onion, To Hate or Not to Hate

Since I was an infant my visceral disgust for onions existed. I couldn't explain it, but any microscopic amount of this disgusting substance that entered my mouth would be enough to trigger my gag reflex. Maybe this was a children's thing, I thought. Maybe I'd outgrow this infuriating dislike for this this "thing." That never happened. My poor mother always tried and failed to make me embrace the stingy taste using deceptive methods. She would chop it very finely, she would blend it, she would tell me it wasn't onion, rather something else. Her attempts failed. I tried to embrace it. Onion rings? Grilled onions? CARAMELIZED ONIONS?!?!?

NOT.A.CHANCE. I am currently 23 years old. I still hate the sight, the smell, the taste, of onions. I will not be shamed for my preferences. I was born this way. Embrace your onion hate. If they judge, don't budge. We can destroy this discrimination one dead onion at a time.

Why are onions in fucking EVERYTHING.

I went to make my partner and I some premade chicken fried rice only to discover that they put those putrid things in there too.

“Just eat it, you can’t even taste them” why add them if you think they have no taste? They do and it’s disgusting. I’m so tired of hearing this

Jessica Williams is always a joy to watch, this particular scene from the show ‘Shrinking’ got me very excited. I choose to believe it’s not merely a line in the script but rather her actually not liking onions.
