An unidentified Gapp user suddenly messaged me using my complete name. No greeting, no introduction, and no explanation of how he knew me.
I did not recognize him, so I asked who he was and what he wanted. Instead of answering, he mocked me, called me defensive and paranoid, and laughed at my reaction.
I admit I became angry and replied harshly. I told him that if his goal was to expose me or tell people about my sexuality, I honestly did not care. My concern was never about being identified as not straight. My concern was why an unidentified person knew personal details about me while refusing to identify himself.
Things became more disturbing when he mentioned my ID, my car, a place I had visited, our subdivision, the damaged bridge in our area, my work, my routine, and eventually my plate number. He also said that no matter how many times I changed my Gapp profile, he would still know it was me.
I asked several times if I had done something wrong to him or someone he knew. I even said I was willing to apologize if I had offended anyone. He never gave me a reason.
Instead, he continued calling me paranoid and later admitted that he enjoyed teasing me and was happy because I was becoming paranoid.
That was the part that really bothered me.
I am not claiming that he stalked me, spread my information, or was the person who previously searched through my ID. I have no proof of that. I am only describing what he said and why I found it alarming.
Yes, I lost my temper and said things I should not have said. I take responsibility for that. But my reaction does not change the fact that an unidentified person used my real name and several private details while refusing to tell me who he was.
Privacy is not shame. Using a dating or hookup app does not remove a person's right to privacy and safety.
The experience bothered me enough that I deleted my Gapp profile and left several local GCs after receiving no response when I shared what happened.
Napaisip tuloy ako, balik na lang kaya ako sa pagiging straight? Hahaha.
Joke aside, am I being too OA? Or was it reasonable to feel alarmed when an unidentified person knew several private details about me, refused to identify himself, and admitted that he enjoyed making me paranoid?
