I know not directly related to quant finance but I have an upcoming r1 interview at Jane street for the strategy and product role. Ive heard the first bit is consulting-esque casing and the rest is logic and brain teasers / puzzles. If anyone's been through the process or knows anything about it, would love to know how to prepare for something like this.

I'm not the most gifted with logic puzzles and they often confuse me but do really want to do my part in studying to learn more about it as I know how difficult these interviews are. Would truly appreciate any advice on how to prepare or insight on what to expect.

Hi everyone, starting my GRE prep now and looking for some candid feedback on my target score, school list viability, and general prep strategy.

My Profile:

• Education: B.Tech (2024 graduate) from a Tier 1 engineering college in India (IIT/BITS).
• GPA: 3.7 / 4.0 (converted equivalent).
• Experience: 1 Summer Internship at a Tier-1 Investment Bank (GS/JPMS/MS) + 2 years of full-time experience at a major quantitative hedge fund.
• Target Programs: Top 10 US MFE/MSQF programs (e.g., Baruch, Princeton, CMU MSCF, NYU Courant, Berkeley, Columbia, Cornell) + ETH Zurich.

My Plan:

I am not working so I can dedicate myself completely to the prep. I am looking to work on GRE first (using gregmat), aiming 320+ with 169+ in quant. I an aiming to give my first attempt in second half of this month. Meanwhile I will keep drafting my LoR. I can get it from a college prof in MQaths dept and my professional manager who has been in industry for 10+ years.

Courses taken:

Maths and probability (advanced)

Numerical techniques

Finance and economics for engineers

Computer programming

Engineering mathematics 1 (basic)

Questions for the sub:

1. Target GRE Score: What is the absolute baseline I need to avoid getting filtered? Assuming a 169+ in quant is mandatory, what should I realistically aim for in Verbal/AWA to be safe at places like Princeton or MIT?
2. Are these schools realistic? Given the buy-side experience, do I have a competitive shot at the MFE M7 equivalent, or are these programs a crapshoot even with this profile?
3. Prep Strategy: Since I am starting right now, what resources or timelines do you recommend to fast-track a top-tier score?

I'm applying within the next 2 weeks everywhere for QT/QR for next summer (junior into senior summer internship).

My thoughts:

I'm aware that my freshman internship was kind of lame but nothing I can do about it now. I only have 1 project, I don't know if I should expand to 2 or 3.

Please let me know your thoughts on these and everything in general. I've been doing interview prep but just hoping this resume is good enough to get past resume screening.

Can you tell me friend of mine has decided to prepare for quant trader interview specific he said it is viable to prepare for quant trader rather than researcher, developer as they require degree,skill which is totally different and require lot of time to acquire it..

he said most of the firms segregate based on their undergrad for QT,as most of them are from maths,CS background or similar STEM degree..

say someone with history, philosophy,Arts background or something similar like that you could break into quant trading role or not?

I am saying in all firms but firms like 'Jane Street ' where they actually read resume manually rather than automated...

I completed the OA for IMC’s US 2027 Quantitative Trader Internship in mid July and haven’t received either an update or a rejection.

I followed up with campus recruiting on August 25 and received an automated response asking me to allow up to seven business days, but I haven’t received a human response yet.

Has anyone in the US QT pipeline heard back after the OA? If so, when did you complete it, and approximately how long did it take to receive an update? Also, should I be sending an email again, or should I assume that I am rejected?

I have my interview coming up in a few weeks and wondering what to expect.

I'm interested to break into actual quant trading. Right now, I've done quant research at a very big bank for 3 years. Before that, I double-majored in CS+pure math at a top US school (no grad school).

What sorts of roles/firms do I have a chance of? And is there anything you all would recommend to improve chances beyond the normal probability/math problem interview prep?

What does a typical QT interview resume look like? Like what is on it usually and not any crazy awards like a normal person QT(prob none lol but ykwim). Just want to know what a resume that passes screening looks like. And then once you pass the screening, how should you prep?

Has anyone here gone through the interview process for the Graduate Software Developer position at Squarepoint Capital?

If so, what was the process like, and what types of technical questions did you get? I’d especially appreciate any advice on what to focus on when preparing.

Gonna graduate early this spring but did get an offer at Citadel for this summer. So is there anything I can do besides delaying graduation or going for a masters?

I was able to obtain a download of this course from the Internet Archive. It's 6+ GB so it took a while and I am missing a few assignments and solution sets. Curious to know if anyone in the quant(um) realm found this course useful. I was a math major and took some applied math courses on the graduate level...also took several actuarial exams back in the day.

Also out of curiosity...in your day-to-day, how much are you relying on AI? Has the landscape changed drastically from just a few years ago?

i am currently in a math undergrad program and planning on trying to join a masters in math&finance or something along those lines of a quant masters. for quant i know you need to know programming
so my question as a math undergrad whats the best way to bridge this knowledge gap that i have in the programming part of the job (some context i do have some experience with programming but im very rusty its been a few years so its not easy for me plus advanced problems are very hard for me)

i’m cambridge engineering. currently getting a first class in first two years, alth a substantial portion of my degree hinges on these last two years.

sadly i kind of had no idea quant was a thing and was targeting big tech stuff. but it seems like a really sensible career aspiration now since AI has killed a load of the engineering jobs.

i did one internship in machine learning research where i learned a little about pytorch and jax and that kind of thing, nothing published yet though - it seems rly hard to get UG publications in the uk. my project work has mainly to do with low level c++ graphics and things like that.

i have the belief im not really good enough for qt or qr, i worry my mental math isnt there neither is my statistics. instead ive been grinding leetcode and was gonna aim for internships in low level c++ gpu side engineering, or possibly something in fpgas since ive done a little tinkering with that, but not enough rly.

then, possibly in a years time when im much better a coding and dsa id have a shot at new grad quant dev, or even after one or two YOE doing software elsewhere?

what do you think? am i in a decent spot? what would you do if you were in my shoes?
