Am I a rat? Is this dog we're rescuing a rat terrier?
We're getting her on Friday. The rescue rarely gets breed info on their dogs but she is estimated to be 8 months old and she weighs about 20 pounds. She was a stray.

Am I a rat? New puppy! Her name is Pixie 🥰
My new girl is 3 months old and 3 pounds. Got her yesterday from a rescue. They said she’s a chihuahua mix and I agree! Do you think she’s mixed with rat terrier?

In Loving Memory Cassie has crossed the rainbow bridge.
She was a couple months shy of 16 and had liver cancer. She was incredibly tough to have made it as long as she did. She made it her mission in life to never leave me alone and was so good at it. I will love her forever.

Hi! I'm fostering a rat terrier. I'm not familiar with this breed. He's adorable and clingy but the BARKING. Any tips or is this just what it is 😆

In Loving Memory Goodbye, Archer
Just said goodbye to my soulmate. I was with him when he was born, up until he took his last breath. He never left my side any time we were together, so it’s really hitting hard now that the space next to me is suddenly empty. He lived an entire year after his Lymphoma diagnosis, so I’m truly grateful for the extra time we had. It still wasn’t enough, as we know it is never enough time. I will love you always, and will never forget you. I’ll see you later Arch, you be a good boy.

My dog (mixed breed)
My girl is a rattie mix according to Embark. I thought I could post her here since you all allow mixes too.

Gumbo is visiting his grandmas
Such a character! Totally relaxing in his car carrier. What quirks do your ratties have? Gumbo will flip over in his crate whenever I go to let him out so that I can give him belly rubs.

Questions Advice wanted: reintroducing Obi to our newborn!
Hi! We are looking for some advice and some stories of how a rat terrier has been reintroduced to a newborn baby! We have a 6 year old Rat Terrier named Obi (many of you here have shown lots of love in prior years from picture I’ve shared here). My wife and I are just welcoming our newborn baby, Avery! Obi is a smart dog that struggles with barking, jumping up on people and generally getting up in your business! When we went into labor we dropped Obi off at the in-laws to watch him full time until we are ready to reintroduce Obi back home to the baby. We have some concerns with how this will go. Keep in mind we are a bit over cautious as first time parents. Have any of you gone through something like this? Do you have any recommendations? Should we be afraid!? Is the rat terrier breed dangerous to infants? I ask this last question. Because there was a time where Obi jumped up on a 1 year old and knocked her down to her butt, no injuries or anything but we were kind of surprised Obi did not know that was bad to do. Please help! Thanks Ray Terrier community!!!

Am I a rat? Cole’s angel Cali 🪽
I lost my brother, Cole, to epilepsy a few weeks ago and apparently the hole in my heart was perfectly puppy sized. Adopted this girl (Cali 🌞) a week ago and it has been so healing to put myself into her and receiving nonstop snuggles! According to the shelter she’s ~6 month chihuahua cattle dog… but her ears look very rat terrier to me! She’s definitely a surprise inside 🤷🏻♀️
Never owned a small dog before so this forum has been super helpful on what to expect & look forward to! 🥰

Toofers How old is your rat, and how many teeth do they have left?
Boogie is 13 and is on the wait list for a 3rd dental (other two were years ago) because he has some rot and a loose tooth. He has already lost many teeth at this point- all the front uppers and lowers except the long teeth, a few others, and for now still has all his molars. I’m thinking they will yank several teeth. Are your elderly rats all also becoming toothless as they age?

My girl Mattie's 18th Birthday
Look who turned 18 years old today! I got Mattie when she was 11 weeks old in 2008. She's been everything to me all of these years. There will be extra treats and a little doggie cake later today. Happy Birthday to my Sweet Girl.

Farmers Market aftermath
Leonox went to the farmers market and left with a play date for next week!
While I was looking at a booth, a man walks over with a little Jack Russell pup who looks almost identical to Leonox (like she could be his mom) and they played the best they could. Turns out, his wife was a vendor and when we got to her booth, we talked about the dogs. I told them about the dog park down the road and it was decided that next week, I’ll go up and do my walk around and then we’d walk down to the dog park as it’s only a couple blocks down. I’m excited to see her run with a pup that’ll be able to keep up with her. Hopefully the weather cooperates so it works out!
