Got an offer yesterday at 10am.

I might’ve sounded less than enthusiastic.

Their pay isn’t what I was looking for so I countered 7.9% more.

Recruiter said they’d do some digging and get back to me.

No call since yesterday and no email.

Not sure if I should wait or follow up.

Any chance they just decided to ghost?

I think I just went through an entire recruitment process where the recruiter was basically AI. Weirdest recruitment experience I’ve ever had.

From the beginning, basically everything was handled by AI.

I applied to a job and after 3 weeks I received an email about the position. Generic, extremely polished, and suspiciously robotic...

I replied, and the responses came back almost immediately, written in that very recognizable “AI corporate” style. I used a website to check if it was AI. And, what a surprise, it was 100% AI.

Then came the interview.

The recruiter joined the call. I noticed she didn't read my CV at all. She was reading it loudly while I was on the call, and asked the dumbest questions ever (like "how many years of experience do you have?" It was litteraly the first sentence on my CV. Engineer with X years of experience in Y and Z.

The questions were also extremely generic and most likely she asked AI to prepare them. And at the same time there was an "AI note taker" in the call, a machine summarizing what I said and that evaluating whether I was sufficiently employable. This fucking recruiter didn't do a single piece of work. AI was doing everything.

A few days later, I got another email.

Rejection.

Also apparently written by AI. It came from a @no-reply address and the e-mail had the same structure as most rejection e-mails have.

So the entire recruitment process was essentially:

AI finds me → AI emails me → AI interviews me → AI rejects me.

I genuinely don't know whether there was ever human thinking involved. I don't understand why companies are doing this, and I have no idea what feedback or impression they expect I will have.

There’s something incredibly dystopian about spending years getting educated, gaining professional experience, tailoring your CV, preparing for interviews… only to have an algorithm decide you're not worth.

And honestly, where does this end? Are we eventually going to have AI recruiters interviewing AI-generated candidates? 😂

I’ve been a silent Reddit lurker for quite some time now—since December, actually, because that’s when I lost my job. I’m unfortunately an entry-level data engineer, and we all know how hard that is right now. I also recently earned my master’s degree in Data Engineering, which I thought might make the search a little easier. It has not.I think my breaking point was getting rejected by both Chipotle and Walmart. Neither one knew about my degree, so I can’t even blame those rejections on being overqualified.

After application after application and multiple résumé variations—and believe me, my résumé has come a long way because the first version was very rough around the edges—I jumped from Indeed to LinkedIn to ZipRecruiter. I mostly targeted data analyst and data engineer positions. I’ve also mainly searched for remote roles. Yes, I know that’s a stretch because the remote job market is a beast of its own, but I can’t afford to relocate before I get a job. So, for now, I’m stuck.

After months of tailoring résumés, writing cover letters, answering the same application questions repeatedly, and watching “Unfortunately…” pile up in my inbox, I decided an Excel sheet and a notepad were no longer going to cut it. I decided not to protect my peace.

Instead, I built an end-to-end data pipeline that uses the Gmail API to retrieve my emails and identify common rejection phrases. Then I turned my heartache into a dynamic Streamlit dashboard with bar graphs, line charts, automatic updates, and a button that lets me download my suffering as an Excel spreadsheet.

And that is how Unfortunately, Blah was born.

A lot of people told me not to make it because it sounded depressing, but I did it anyway because:

A) I’m curious.

B) It gives me a funny, meaningful project to discuss when recruiters ask me to tell them about something I’ve built.

And, as I’m typing this, I just received another rejection—this time for a data engineering role.So now I’m sitting here looking at my pretty, pretty graphs as they automatically update my rejection history in real time. At least the pipeline works.

Had an interview this week, did absolutely zero prep and ended up doing some corny appreciation sentence mid interview... It wasn't even the end.

I'm still so embarrassed lol

On a side note, I had a hiring manager screen and now am doing a recruiter screen. Is this normal? Should I be optimistic of being advanced forward?

One company on my resume and job application portal was listed as my employer (ABC), but ABC was actually the client/middle company. My actual employer was XYZ, & can fully verify my employment.

HireRight has prefilled ABC from my resume. I want to change it to XYZ because that is my actual employer. I understand I should provide the correct information, but what happens because my resume/application previously showed ABC as my full-time employer?

Will HireRight simply flag it as a discrepancy, or could the new employer consider this a serious issue?

I am exhausted and mentally/emotionally empty from working a grueling job at a toxic company all day, then come home to apply for jobs. I tailor my resume for each job.

I'm also getting caught up on my CPE hours as a CPA.

Any advice?

I completed eight rounds of interviews, with the final interview occurring on August 21st.

Since then, I have not received any communication. I sent a follow-up email last Friday, August 28th, but have yet to receive a response.

During the scheduling process for the last four calls, I was asked for my availability over a two-week period (for the 21st and 28th), though all my interviews were ultimately scheduled within the week of the 21st. I am seeking clarification on whether this prolonged silence indicates that my application is no longer being considered, or if the company was still conducting interviews with other candidates until the 28th and now will continue the decision making process.

I am aware that other candidates interviews were happening.

Senior business analyst. Recruiter reaches out to me in June and I submit my application shortly after. Mini case interview and power day in July, passed both. Got only one meet and greet with a HM in mid August. Haven’t heard a word since then.

My application status still shows as “interview in progress”

Has anyone gone through a similar experience at capital one? Is this a done deal?

I had a final round with an employer 8/28. I got an email same day from transunion stating that the employer added them as my employer to my credit profile on 8/27. 8/28 I had a final interview but as of today 9/1 I have no offer. Should I email the recruiter or leave it be? It is a large legit company with communication through their ats and verified company email. prior to my first of 3 interviews I was told I had to go through onfido to verify my identity which I did around 8/14.

Not 100% sure if true or not, but I've heard of horror stories where some shady recruiting agencies waste your time by collecting your resume, having a brief chat with you, getting you to sign their RTR, then immediately ghosting you, as agents use the number of RTRs captured as one of their performance metrics. Can anyone tell me if this agency is just wasting my time?

• Got contacted via LinkedIn by an agent for a pretty suitable position
• Chatted with agent, then went through another interview with the agency's own technical "screening team". Nothing in the interview stood out as a scam, it was a pretty normal IT interview
• Was told I passed the screening, then signed a RTR (right to represent) which basically forces me to use their agency to apply for this role
• Ghosted for 3 weeks despite repeated followups
• 3 weeks later, same agent contacted me for another similar role at another company
• Giving them benefit of the doubt, I went through the exact same process (initial chat + technical screening) this time with different people
• Was told again I passed the screening, then signed another RTR
• Ghosted for 2 weeks

If I didn't spend an hour talking to their technical screening team this would've screamed scam, but the fact they actually had two separate tech teams interview me made it seem somehow... legit? Is this just a case of extreme unprofessionalism (which most recruiters are to varying degrees) or some kind of scam? The agency itself is medium-sized and based on Europe.

I had two really promising interviews last week, both of whom said they would be interested in having me back for the final interview with the site manager.

The first one I interviewed with on Thursday and seems like a really good job with steady work and hours, but it's not in a field of work that I have a lot of experience with. The office manager asked when I would be available for a follow-up interview and I let them know that Tuesday or Wednesday of this week would be the best days. Everything seemed very positive and encouraging. I still haven't received a single phone call or email from them about setting up the second interview.

The second job was in a fairly niche field of work that I have a lot of experience with and I was especially excited about getting to interview with them. I met with the office manager in person and we discussed the details of the job, my work history, and the history of the company. They even showed me around and gave me a lot of information about the day-to-day goings on of the company. I researched all of the bullet points on their job listing and prepared answers for all of them. The interview went great and I was told I would be hearing back on Monday.

As a bit of added insurance, I re-checked the job listing over the weekend and noticed that there were a couple of bullet points that we did not discuss. I typed up a quick email thanking the office manager for taking the time to interview with me and added that I wanted to provide some additional information regarding the bullet points, concluding it with a "purpose" statement explaining why I thought my skills and experience would be a good match for the company.

Now it's late Tuesday afternoon and I haven't heard back from either.

I'm just stuck here wondering if that email seemed too over the top and if I disqualified myself from the role. They haven't updated the job posting site either way, but I can't help but wonder if screwed up and cost myself the job opportunity by sending in the additional email over the weekend.

What's worse is that now I can't decide whether or not I should follow up regarding the first interview since I don't know if following up after the interview accidentally disqualified me.

Has anyone experienced this with follow-up emails before? Everything I read on these job hunting sites encouraged a short, polite email after an interview but I can't help but second guess myself.

I (25m) had a stable job, but it was destroying my mental health. As in I was coming home from work every day drinking 3-4 beers and getting anxiety attacks at my desk kind of destruction. I was paid barely above the poverty line to do what amounted to two separate job's worth of work, on top of being bullied by my boss.

After months of intense searching (over 40 applications) I found what felt like a great job. I had a great, supportive manager for the first time in my life. I had great colleagues that I actually enjoyed being around and working with. Best of all, the manager promised me a career opportunity, to grow with the company as he spearheaded the new department that I was hired to work in.

Six weeks later the business owner decided for obscure reasons that she had spent too much money on setting this up, and fired my manager. I'm lucky that I got re-hired, but now I work in this business's store front as a clerk, and I lost about half my salary because the business owner won't give me full time employment even though she's posting offers on Indeed to hire more clerks.

I can't even try for a second part time job because they publish the schedule the day before the work week starts.

I'm legit crying looking for jobs and applying. It's a desert out there...

During the interview, he kept asking who I had sold to, what distributors I knew, what trade shows I had attended. Names. He wanted names.
When I mentioned a specific trade show where I had met big box buyers, he immediately wrote it down. That was actually the only time I saw him take notes during the entire interview.

Then he kept asking me about different supermarkets’ margins.
I told him I don’t know their actual margins. I only had pricing for different customer tiers. Retailers have retail pricing, distributors have distributor pricing. That doesn’t mean I know exactly what margin every customer is making.
Then he said something like, “You sold to 99 Ranch. If you go to 99 Ranch and look at their selling price, you should be able to figure out their margin.”

WTF. Since when does a job interview require the candidate to go figure out a potential employer’s customer margin?
At that point it really started feeling less like an interview and more like free market research.

I’m not saying I know for sure the job was fake. Maybe they really are hiring. But I’m 100% sure he was also using the interview to get market info from me.

This is the second Chinese company I’ve dealt with in the last few months where the interview felt like this. Constant questions about customer names, distributors, pricing, market info, contacts.
Basically treating applicants like free market consultants.

I also emailed their corporate offices in China/Hong Kong and told them exactly what happened and what the interviewer said. No response. Not even an acknowledgment of receipt.
So whatever. The company is Master Kong 康師傅.

If you ever interview with them for a U.S. market role, just know what you may be walking into.

I get it’s an employer market now but can’t companies have some decency to send a rejection letter first before reposting a position they’re actively still interviewing candidates for. I did three rounds of interviews and the manager said they’d get back to me in 2-3 weeks. Overall all the interviews went well but one week later they posted the role again. No communication from anyone and this wasn’t just a repost on LinkedIn. The entire posting was created again and they extended the deadline.

Okay so I tried to apply to Amazon since there is a warehouse 5 miles from where i live at. I'll skip complaining about the whole "Oh use your mic to explain this situation verbally." bs, and move on to the meat. You know how companies are like. "I like to be honest." and there are options of "Agree" "Neutral" "Disagree", when i tried to apply in 2020 their test was like this. Took the test on Sunday, and now it's "I like being a hard worker" "I like being honest" And you have to choose one or the other. Just CRAZY situations that....

"I will always choose safety over production." Vs "I will always be honest"

"I need to always be reminded of deadlines." VS "I will not work as hard if i dont need to."

TF IS THIS?! Its just crazy situations that are literally just lose/ lose.

"I enjoy being challenged" vs "I enjoy being promoted."

In all honesty how does one conquer these questions. Amazon repeatedly mentioned safety everywhere during the assessments, so anytime it talked about safety i picked those options even if it was like "I enjoy promotions." vs "Even if it takes me longer, I will do everything safely"

I was called about an interview. Yay! Finally! Have to drive to the main office 2 hours away even though the job is closer. Ok cool.

This has to be some sort of job fair group interview thing cause they made me wait outside for 30 minutes in a line full of people and now I've been inside sitting in a crowd of about 50 other applicants. Theyve been calling people one at a time but obviously its gonna be a while for me.

And im just here like no one told me this was gonna be this long. No one seems to care that my interview was at 12 (the guy who checked me in said ya thats everyone here)

There's only 7 interviewers each at a table at the front of the room. I have a long drive back home but im desperate for a job (my unemployment is not enough to pay my rent and I have no idea what im gonna say to my landlord)

How long do you wait? Since its now 55 minutes past my interview time and 1 hour and 15 minutes since I got here...

(Just fyi this is a job being general help staff at a shopping center btw nothing super technical or fancy or educated)

He also asked me if I was European based only on my name and asked me where I got it from… yeah, that was weird.

Don’t…just don’t.
You’re not gonna get auto rejected by an ATS for listing your compensation goals, it’s an open text field….
You MIGHT get rejected for being absolutely out of touch with reality (depending), but you’re more likely to get a response if you’re just honest.

Do your market value research, maybe use a salary estimation tool based on your experience, and for god’s sake ask about “Total Rewards” don’t just immediately decline as soon as you’re “low-balled.”

Applied for a company (culligan water), the recruiter reaches out to me to schedule an interview, interview comes and they cancel 15 minutes before it. Tells me they will reschedule and I haven’t heard since (it’s been a month) wtf is going on in this job market.

Just had an interview today that went surprisingly well. They seemed to like me and my experience and even said that they thought I gave the best answers out of any candidate so far (not sure if they’re just being nice lol), and could tell that I researched the company. How do I not get my hopes up. I walked out of there feeling like I might get an offer but now I’m overthinking and feel like I might get rejected.

They also said that they would have to do a background and reference check on me. My last boss was a massive jerk and we did not end on great terms. So now I’m also worried that my previous company will trash talk me.

I just got an verbal offer from recruiter and heard that I will be doing pre-employment background check.
I have a DUI on my record, got arrested last year, and went to court this January,
Since I have lost my job due to fail to pass the security clearance with other company, I am really anxious and nervous. it is defense sector company, start up size.
Will I get a chance to disclose it before they run me through?
If I being totally honest, will I be able to pass?

I've been fighting to get a job since dui, I am really nervous.
