Looking for moderators

I started this sub about 10 years ago when I was a Santa Fe student and then didn't do much with it because I was, to my surprise, accepted to a position at Shands I had applied for and stopped attending Santa Fe.

I don't want to abandon the sub and feel like it can still be a useful resource. So even though I'm no longer a student I'm going to try making it more useful. Right now I'm just looking for one or two people that are current students that I can add as mods.

The main expectations I have of any mods I add are

  1. Removing spam/hate speech/etc.
  2. Gatherings links to resources to put in the sidebar
  3. Posting about upcoming events

Look at /r/ufl for what I mean. If you want to be a mod, use the contact the moderators link and include a picture of your Santa Fe ID and your Reddit username (in the same picture in case that's not obvious). Feel free to block out personal data.

Medical Lab Sciences Program

For anyone looking into getting into the Medical Laboratory Sciences program at Santa Fe, DO NOT DO IT. Go ANYWHERE else.

The program is a mess. We have not had an advisor for almost a year now, get no clear answers on our path in the program, and it seems like they want to set you up for failure.

The prereqs are "easy" enough, but once you get into the actual program classes, the professors are disorganized, disjointed, confusing (both to themselves and to the students), the classes are designed poorly, and your schedule will be whatever they decide to put you in, regardless of what your semester looks like (for example, they will plan a semester with four of the easier classes, and the next semester with four of the hardest classes in the program). For a career that is literally all in a laboratory, there are barely any labs that will actually cover material that is needed in the career.

I am almost in my last semester, and I feel like I know absolutely nothing to prepare me for the board exam. In 90% of my classes overall, I have had to teach myself all of the material because the lectures are such a mess. I feel like I am paying a whole lot of money to teach myself the material via YouTube and the textbook. I'm crying every day due to the lack of guidance and the sheer amount of material they expect you to teach yourself.

I have absolutely nothing good to say about this program. If anyone else has had the same experience, please let me know. If anyone has questions about this program, also let me know.

I had 52/59 points and was denied. (4.0gpa pre-req and total gpa, healthcare license, BA) Would love to know what the points were for those that got in so I can see where I need to improve

Is it just me or is the SFCollege WiFi always not working?

Like I've been here for two full weeks now and the WiFi has worked for me twice and I attempt it every day. It's always running down my phone battery because I have to use my hotspot. It's always saying "can't connect to this network" and refuses to let me use it.

Professor Brooks MAC1114

Has anyone taken Professor Brooks' online class for MAC1114 before? Her RMP reviews are horrible for both Santa Fe and Daytona State. If you have taken her class before, are the reviews really accurate? I don't really have a choice in taking her class as there was one open slot left for MAC1114 online.

Anyone have a random Registration Stop that resolved itself? I am unable to go into the cashiers office until Thursday and can’t reach them via telephone. This popped up and I don’t know what it could be from nor do I have that kind of money to pay!

Is anyone else taking O'Reilly's online AP 1 class this fall? Wondering if anyone wanted to get together on GroupMe and create a study group.

Rad Tech program peeps, how are you paying your bills?

I need some transparent answers bc I am 33, work full time and can barely get by. Hence going back to school.
I am doing my prerequisites now and have seen a lot of content online about how much time the Rad Tech program takes up and while I am so excited… how are y’all paying your rent? When do you have time for a job? Or are you getting support from family? I’m single with no parents so that’s not an option for me.
I just want to be mentally prepared, especially if I need to consider alternatives. (Also open to any scholarship suggestions that are specific to this situation).

Thanks :)

Rad Tech -MRI

Does anyone know the classes needed to be eligible for MRI (I believe it was a physics and maybe something else..?), I used to have it written down somewhere but lost it. I did message an advisor but haven't heard back yet.

I know spring registration is no where near close but I like to have everything organized very early for peace of mind lol

and no its not anywhere on the website that I could find. :)

Do I need the school's goggles for chemistry?

Hi, does anyone know if I need to buy the specific goggles from the school store, or can I use any goggles I already own for chemistry?

I'm taking Intro to Chem (CHM1025), and I already own some DeWalt goggles. I'd rather not have to buy the ones from the school store if I don't need to.

LOR Questions

I’m trying to get a letter of recommendation for my law school application and am worried the professor may not be getting my email since it’s from a personal email. Any tips? I’ve called what I believe is their office number and left a voicemail

Are Santa Fe staff nincompoops?

I’ve literally had to walk some of these advisors and registrar people through their own jobs and gave them step-by-steps on how to help me and somehow they manage to do anything but that. My question is: why? Why do they seem so adamant on not doing their job or helping out?

Santa Fe won’t give me AA confirmation letter

ā€œ I've completed all requirements for my AA and I'm accepted to UF for transfer. Could you let me know when my degree will post, and if a degree certification letter is available to send to UF in the meantime? ā€œ is what I’ve been asking for the past two days after my CLEP exam. They keep deferring me to different people anytime I call or just tell me to ā€œsend my transcriptsā€. My transcripts do not have my CLEP score processed yet and all I’ve been asking them is for a letter of confirmation. Do you guys have any tips? I can provide any additional info if needed. I honestly think it’s a simple task, I have the proof they just need to send a simple letter of CONFIRMATION. It’s not like I’m asking them to reimburse my FASFA (God forbid). I’m freaking out, UF needs confirmation of my AA by the end of August. What do I do?
