You make a valid argument and I agree with everything you say BUT…

The parents of these kids for the most part were never taught how to parent by having a parent themselves. The parents of the parents grew up in a weird time in the inner city that crime and addiction was wild and many feel victim to parents who were not there to teach right from wrong or how to behave in a civilized manner. Of course there was also the racism during that time which when you add that to the mix, they really did not stand a chance so even if these kids parents were to be held accountable, they probably act worse than the kids themselves. Kindness and guidance is what these kids need. For the most part they are not bad people. They are just lost and forced in a way into a form of tribal behavior (that is not a racial statement, face value of the word before someone loses their shit over that word). Kids want to fit in with their peers so this is what happens when a bundle of teenagers without guidance get together. They have no basis for proper civil behavior. It sucks that ordinary people have to pay the price but one kid at a time man. Show them kindness and empathy, give them a chance to be better don’t just write them off man.

But teenagers fight. They don’t have enough data to be able to make appropriate choices based on their surroundings and situation.

It’s not cool that they make such a spectacle of it though.

Remember, they live in an urban city so this is the only place they have to do whatever dumb stupid teenager thing they gonna do so it looks chaotic.

I mean it seems lost on a lot of people that at least they are not using weapons (not any more or less than their counterparts in the suburbs).

It’s just that when this pops off in the suburbs there is so much more space at much less populated per square mile areas so it doesn’t look as dramatic as this.

One thing I have learned over time is that when someone asks for a minute, give them that time. Your boyfriend sounds exactly like I was. Thinking I was being caring and loving by "lightening the mood" or "Make her laugh and she will feel better" - pretty much all of those annoying actions your boyfriend displayed, I would too.

Clearly his intentions were good but he will learn (if he didnt already after this situation) that it is more harmful than helpful to take this route when someone (doesnt matter if a girlfriend or anyone) says they need a minute, take that minute to get a beverage ready for them and wait til they are ready for you.

Also, his constant joking around about everything could be a nervouse or some form of defense mechanism. The only way he has learned to deal with it. So as annoying as that is, try to brush it off if possible.
