I played both for the first time about a year ago. Both were great games, but for me personally, Chrono Trigger wowed me more. I thought it was absolutely amazing, where I thought that FFVI was greatā¦.I played CT first, so maybe you should try FFVI first and see if you have the same results? Both are 100% must-play games, and you canāt go wrong with either.
Chrono Trigger - pace yourself. Ish is long and wonderful. only one part I would prefer to skip if i could the start of the prehistoric stuff its just slow imo

Searches say the game takes around 25, maybe 40 hours? For me, thatās a standard length game. I have thousands of hours in WoW, 650+ in BG3, and even FF10 took me 200 hours back in the day.
40 hours would be skipping a LOT. i think first time, no guides for puzzles or extra, just exploring and backtracking (literally through time)...maybe 60? you could easily hit 60 or 70. if you liked BG3, and get the back tracking to zones for everyone's stories and items, you will get CT and enjoy it
CT is by far the best game around imo. Multiple storyline endings, some of the greatest and soulful music that sticks with you for DECADES. I STILL listen to CT music be ause of how good it is. Definitely do yourself a favor and try it out.
A word of advice, the "newer" versions of it on DS or Steam, have additional content that wasn't in the original SNES version. They also changed the iconic sound of Luminaire, one of the main powerful attacks, and i hate the new version's sound over the original. I prefer the true original version of the game so if you can get an SNES emulator to play it on, I highly recommend that version first. Then explore the 'newer' versions.
I occasionally play Fortnite with my girlfriend and theyāve recently added some Sonic stuff. Speed pads and rings etc. The OG Sonic music that plays when you go over a speed pad dealt me a fat slice of nostalgia
Earthbound is so timeless. I played it for the first time recently and Iām over 30. Still felt fresh. Never had an SNES as a kid so I played a lot of what I missed out on. Super Metroid and Zelda:LTTP hit that same timeless feeling for me.
I tried to play the first Resident Evil but couldn't get into it because of the way the camera angle kept changing whenever I went into another room. Is is the same in all the resident evil games?
Nice. I'm doing the same thing. Retro Arch on my super-old phone, plugged into my TV. Finally going to finish Chrono Trigger, which I was playing today (was on 2nd to last boss as a kid).
Also, almost done with the RE1 remake for the Wii. Wasn't expecting Zombies to traverse stairs or to reanimate as fast zombies.
Good Hardware doesn't really mean anything if the software is bad. Bethesda games are notorious for being buggy messes. I would recommend looking up a community patch for the game to see if that helps.
If the game crashes have any consistency, try googling your issue and find some forums, your problem might be a common one with a solution. Being a PC gamer can mean being a problem solver sometimes, but it is also usually the best way to experience games when they are running correctly.
Ironically, good hardware can crash older games by being TOO good.
IIRC, certain older games relied on processing timers to queue events, and modern equipment flies way beyond what they expected, so it floods too many events at once and it breaks all the triggers.
After all the years I played Skyrim on a windows pc, I have (so far) had zero crashes in over 100 hours on Zorin Linux. Optimized hardware does wonders, especially when you don't have ten trillion useless things backing up your computer like yesterday's sewage. Now my biggest problems are my internet connection when playing online games and anticheat software that's not really compatible with Linux (looking at you, Helldivers 2)
Since the update that happened in april I have been unable to launch the game. None of my settings, compatibility, hardware, etc have changed. The game just won't start for no apparent reason. I've submitted several support tickets and heard nothing back, and made a few comments in the HD2 subreddit. Not a single thing that has been recommended has worked, and I've tried a lot of different things. It was my favorite game for 500 hours
The only thing I can figure is that it's an issue with the anticheat that's keeping me from playing. I've deleted and reinstalled it a dozen times to no avail. I crave democracy and stims :(
I'll save you the trouble. Just search "fnv dxvk" and it'll fix most of your problems. And because websites are stinking piles of feces when it comes to finding basic steps:
"Installation
Extract/open the archive and drag d3d9.dll and dxvk.conf to the gameās root folder."
You need to install the 4GB Patch for FNV at the very least.
FNV was released to work on 32-bit systems and could only access 2 GB of RAM. I'm also certain you have a modern 64-bit system.
There are loads of other stability and bug fix mods that can be installed as well.
You'll probably want the New Vegas Anti-Crash mod as well as the Stutter Remover mod and maybe New Vegas Script Extender if you are going to add more mods.

There are essential mods that are needed to play fallout New Vegas on PC to limit bugs and crashing (fallout 3 is even harder to run, but both are doable.) Their are plenty of mods I'd recommend looking through like higher resolution vanilla textures for example
You need to install the stability mods! These old fallout games were designed for older operating systems and have issues on current systems. People made mods that fixed these issues and keep the game vanilla
the exact same thing happened to me not two weeks ago, you need to download the 4gb patch from nexus mods, Gopher has curated a nice set of files for FNV
Look into wabbajack and a modlist called viva new Vegas essentially a very vanilla+ mod list that stabilizes and makes performance on modern hardware better.
Sometimes older games donāt work well with newer windows either. If you just google the game title and your problem youāll often find solutions easily.
It's because your PC is too good and new, a few older games tend to just shit themselves because of modern hardware not really supporting whatever drivers or something the older games needed (or maybe it's the other way around, I don't fully remember).
I would recommend looking into a program called wabbajack, it's a mod playlist hub, with pretty good tutorials on how to install the mod packs would definitely help you run fallout New Vegas better. Also note that the longer you're save is like playtime the more unstable it becomes
For FNV specifically, there are several steps you have to take to get the game to a semi-playable state.
I'd recommend following the Viva New Vegas guide at least until and including the "Base Finish" section, anything beyond that is up to you.
I'd also recommend following the Performance Guide to run the game through DXVK, it makes a massive difference in performance in my experience.
Yes, it can be annoying if you're not used to modding games and you shouldn't need to do this just to play a game, but Bethesda isn't gonna fix it, just like they didn't bother fixing any of their other Fallout or Elder Scrolls titles.
In highschool, maybe a little under 12 years ago I made it so the schools mainframe would install StarCraft on reset so all computers always had the game installed, the admins password was 0000, such a silly tech
I remember playing fallout 1 and 2 when I was much younger than the minimum age you could make a character, and now I'm about just as much over the max age limit
