Alright peeps, time to sit down and have a talk I never thought I'd have to have

1.1k Upvotes

First of all if I come off as annoyed I apologize, but I am, I'm sick as shit and tired as shit. So apologies in advance.

Second, I'm blown away by how this community has expanded and evolved, looking at this sub, I'd never recognize it from its humble beginnings, and I'm okay with it, I created this sub to celebrate the well worn and you folks have taken it and ran with it, and it's awesome, I see the most unexpected coolest things. That said, the statue posts bug me, but the upvotes indicate you all like them, so they stay, for now.

Now on to the meat and potatoes. We're a super hands off mod team, probably a little too hands off for some peoples liking. We remove very little, obvious junk and spam, and have only banned three or four people. One being a troll, the rest spammers. Today we added to that.

Going forward, as an addendum to rule 5, there will be zero tolerance for begging, asking, insinuating want for, private messaging, so on and so on, for used and free stuff. (the side bar won't be updated because I have no idea if our css guy is alive and I'll just break it). Here at /r/wellworn we don't judge your ahem preferences, like what you want, how you want, when you want. But being creepy as fuck on this sub or through PMs is sure as hell not the right way to do it.

This is unfortunately not an isolated case, we've had reports of this being done by a few users. This is the only warning, there will be a one month Insta ban for your first violation, permanent for your next.

There are plenty of subs where you can buy all that kinda stuff, from A-Z, from willing participants. (no I'm not looking them up for you).

Please be liberal with the report button I'd you see it and if you get pmd with one of these requests please send a mod mail with the /u/ so they can be banned.

There will be one, and only one exception, if it's a truly rare case like "my mom gave me one of these as a kid but I lost it and she just died" , or I'm a legitimate museum curator or something of that sort, please mod mail us first with the post in question.

That said, if you are truly in need, need some gear to get you that first job to get a leg up, I have a not /r/wellworn pair of size 10 steel toes, extra wallets, belts, maybe even a hard hat and coveralls, or most other stuff that gets posted on here regularly that costs money that's needed for employment, that I'd be more than happy to send you for free (within reason, shipping across the oven is expensive) pm me privately and we'll figure out some sort of verification to ensure that it's going to the right person.

Asides from that, stay frosty peeps, don't be pervs.

As the world becomes awash in unrest and unease this is a friendly reminder that we are not, have never been, or will be a political sub.

Stop, before you start, I don't care, Up, down, left, right, blue, yellow, purple, green, diagonal, upside down, I don't care. They're all bad, they're all good, they're all evil, there all benevolent, they're this expletive or that complement.

Your opinions are valid and need to be discussed, but not here. I don't care while we're here, we don't care while we're here. There is literally six hundred predominantly political subs, you are welcomed and encouraged to go speak your mind there, not here. Don't make bait posts, don't make hostel comments to each other. I'll burn this whole fucker down before I let this place be another politics sub

he looks more like a dog toy than a blanket now lol

I chose this blanket as my favorite toy when I was two after asking for my dad on a road trip. my dad has never lived with me, and as a little kid, I couldn’t fully understand why I couldn’t see him all the time.

in a way, this damn thing was a replacement for my dad.

Edit: What the fuck is wrong with yall? The amount of times I’ve had to report comments for breaking the first and EASIEST rule of the sub “don’t be a dick” is insane.

To answer some questions from folks that I couldnt respond to before the post got locked or that I’ve been asked too many times, and also some clarification.

My dad ain’t absent, my parents are just divorced.

I am in therapy, not for having a beloved childhood toy.

He has a retirement date where he will be sewn into my favorite IKEA blahaj.

I send all of y‘all who sent kind comments the best wishes. Stay young at heart.

Plus thank you mods for everything that you do! I’m so sorry about the reports on here.

Complete with stickers from elementary school. This book sparked my love for Tolkien, and I now have a LOTR tattoo on my ribs ♡

Pretty sure I got the original one for free at least 10 years ago. Has obviously been through a lot and was finally slipping off the sunglass arms. Decided to get the same black strap again to see how much the color has changed over the years. Nice fade!

[this is flair] My sandals that have gone through countless miles of swamp

To be clear (like the swampwater), it was pristine, gorgeous, knee-high swamp, crystal clear and beautiful. Quite often I walked barefoot through them, but often I did not.

These have also survived walking through the snow, over miles and miles of asphalt, dirt, and grass, and have been with me for 15+ years. Clarks Unstructured brand.

They used to have one or two leather-like insole layers, but most of that has cracked off. Just peel away the pointy parts, and it’s good to go! The rubbery like bottom layer is comfy anyway.

The sole has been glued on a few times now though, and I fear for when this stops holding. The sole is still thick, somehow hasn’t worn through or cracked from countless soaking/drying cycles, and I don’t think this brand exists any more. IF (and that’s a big it) I ever replace them, I’d love to be able to transfer these straps to the new sandals, they’ve been through so much with me.

Had these now for almost two years. I hope I can get them resoled soon. Btw I wore the leather off the tip of boots. I added an epoxy coating to help extend the life of the shoes more.

An extremely well loved paper folder I’ve used from 8th grade to graduation

And I still plan to use this for my classes in uni, it still does its job of holding paper just fine.

EDIT: just because I have one grimy folder does not mean I’m a disgusting person lmao. I still do my laundry and keep my room clean.

I’ve just kept this folder with me as a dumb experiment to see just how long it would last until it really gave up on me. Which I don’t think it will, but who knows. Plus, everyone I’ve shown it to, friend or not, doesn’t care at all or think I’m gross just because of this. Of course I’ll throw it away if it somehow causes a problem, I’m not that attached.
