User Flair

Hello Audi,

There are a lot of questions regarding user flair and issues adding flair under your username.

Go to this sub's main homepage (You are here to click on this) and look to the righthand side. There will be a tab with a little pencil that says, " USER FLAIR PREVIEW". Click that and separate tab should pop up. It will ask you to pick your logo and add in some text.

Please note, using the app does not always work. This is not an sub issue, but it can be an issue with Reddit.

Please click on the link to see a picture explanation.

Thank you,

This is a stock photo off Google, but I have this spec in transit for later this week. First brand new car I’ve ever owned at the ripe old age of 34

Can’t wait for that drive home.

First Audi as well! Thought I'd post since I couldn't find many online images of Ultra Blue A7's. Came from a W205 C Class previously and this is a huge step up in terms of on-road refinement.

Audi A7 C8 45 TFSI – strange noise on cold start after PK belt replacement

Thumbnail drive.google.com
Upvotes

I recently replaced the PK/serpentine belt set and noticed this strange rattling/rasping noise on cold starts. After driving for a while and the engine warms up, the noise disappears. It comes back again when the car is cold.

Could this be the belt tensioner/idler pulley, alternator pulley, or possibly the water pump? Has anyone with the 2.0 TFSI had a similar noise? Car has 200k km.
I’ll attach a recording/video of the sound.

How is the pre-facelift Audi A8 D4?

Ive been looking at A8s, all from D2s to D4s and i notice that the pre facelift D4s are waaay cheaper compared to the facelift ones

I understand that facelifts make a car more expensive, but the facelifts one are waaay more expensive than pre facelift D4s. Like a low milage 2011 D4 costs around 20 000€, and a facelift one costs about 45-50 000€.

I wonder, is there something that makes the pre facelift ones less desirable? Is there a huge fault with the pre facelift ones?

Trying to sell my Audi to a 3rd party dealer. She is fully cherries out premium plus. Carbon fiber interior and exterior, sport differential, sport steering, sport suspension, nappa leather, sport resonator delete (port installed so it's not after market), only has 16.5k miles on it. Paint corrected and ceramic coated. What's a reasonable offer to accept?

Discussion Would you road-trip a 2016 S3 with a 70K mile original water pump?

Question as above — recently purchased this S3, seems overall quite stout and I’m not overly concerned about the rest of the vehicle — runs strong and the biggest issue otherwise is a minor timing cover leak.

I haven’t seen any signs of coolant loss, level is staying steady. No coolant on the ground, and I put an endoscope under the manifold and didn’t see any pink crystallization or anything of the sort. Oil temps stay consistent between 217 and 226 F, the latter during harder driving. There is a slight antifreeze smell.

New to the world of Audi so just wanted opinions! If it fails is it immediate and catastrophic? Or will a top off be okay to get me a long way. This is a 9 hour round trip drive I intend on making, and if there is even a considerable risk I’ll find alternative transportation as don’t wanna chance having to get a town across state lines. Thanks!

Adblue Fault, no restart 650mi, A4 B9 2.0TDI

Just had this message on my dash on an a4 b9 2.0 tdi. Got it scanned at the garage and they have recommended to get an ‘Ad blue delete’. Can someone please tell me if they have chosen this option before and how is the car now, have you guys had any future problems and most importantly they did mention that it will pass an MOT. I understand it is slightly illegal but how would one get caught?
For info I got quoted £180 for a delete and £3000+ for a replacement.

Any advice is highly appreciated.

Is it wrong to prefer an S3 over an RS3?

I am currently looking at both S3s and RS3s, and with the 8Y.5 gen, I'm feeling unexpectedly torn. I thought driving both would sort things for me, but even after I'm just not sure, so turning to the community for advice.

As someone frequently doing both city (Boston/Cambridge) and highway driving, with some occasional backroad, I felt the new S3s kind of check all my boxes. Very comfortable at low city speeds, power was there in spades on highway, and I didn't feel any issues with understeer. I also felt like it was chill being in dynamic wherever I wanted, wasn't bothering anyone in a residential or quieter area. RS3 felt a bit obnoxious to non-enthusiasts when not in comfort.

--------------------------------

Some small pros for S3:

- I love district green. It is my ideal car color, and accented with black/carbon and red calipers looks incredible.

- The steering wheel on the S3 still has the physical buttons and volume wheel. Getting that on an RS3 requires going back to 2024, where you then lose the top view / 360 camera, and the rear camera isnt great.

- The turning radius on the S3 is tighter than the RS3. Tighter turning, cameras, and it's small body make it very city friendly.

- The RS3 I drove might've had ceramics, but the braking and coming to a full stop emitted some unpleasant squeaks. I was assured it was normal, but kind of was hoping to hear that it wasn't (although I may have been lied to in the hopes of a sale, so will defer to RS3 owners)

And then there is price. New price is about $10k difference, but there is also depreciation to consider. If buying new, that's a pro for the RS3. But if buying a 1 year old car...suddenly the gap between S3 and RS3 opens up to 15k-20k+... and that's before considering insurance and cost of parts. Obviously a lower price doesn't make a car better, but the amount of car per dollar is important to consider.

-------------

Pros of the RS3:

- 1 2 4 5 3

- It sounds so cool, especially in manual letting it rev higher or getting up to speed on on-ramps/passing. It has real character, and the sound describes that car much better than the more vacuum-y 4-pot.

- There's an R in front of the S, so it's seen as a sick piece of history instead of "the car you buy when you can't afford an RS3".

--------------------------------

I am looking for a daily, and not planning on tracking it (pretty happy with sim for scratching any real racing itch atm).

I like the 5-cylinder, but is it worth the $20k+ premium, worse steering wheel (or cameras), losing district green, dealing with potentially squeaky breaks, and being a bit more of a nuisance to neighbors and pedestrians? I feel like I was expecting it to be this game-changing factor, and while I wasn't underwhelmed per se, I found that I didn't care just as much as I thought I would. It's still really cool though of course, and I appreciate it's connection to Audi's history.

I cannot tell if I genuinely prefer the S3 but am worried too much about perception and losing "uniqueness" (I know as a growing enthusiast so many see this as the "wrong" choice), or if I am just convincing myself I prefer it to avoid a more expensive decision...

Discussion Coolant leak (surprise surprise)

So I purchased a 2019 A6 Prestige with 41K miles on August 7th, I’ve been driving it without issue and a couple of weeks ago it was about 97° outside and I was traveling uphill. The car gave me a red triangle on the top of the gauges and said coolant temp too high park on the side of the road and let it cool down. The temp gauge stayed in the middle the entire 30 mins I kept driving after stopping for a bit to let it do its thing. Whatever right, I went home after doing what I needed to do, checked under the hood at the coolant reservoir and it was below min, so I went to autozone filled it up with the spec coolant and left it. I drove it to work for a week after that which is about 25-30 miles away and for four days out of the week.

I drove it again this past weekend and at the same spot uphill it was about 101° and it gave me the same warning. I parked on the side and after about 5 mins I drove it, my foot was on the gas pedal a bit heavier this time and I noticed the temp gauge went up by one increment higher than staying in the middle. I said fuck it and just kept driving but kept the rpm’s low.

I got it at carmax financed for 28K, put 10K down and invested in MaxCare to cover anything for 4K added to the loan, I wasn’t swindled into this, I invested into it because I knew something would happen over time. I’m covered on this until the car is at 88K miles.

I called up Carmax and let them know my issue, they said they would be able to get it looked at their store on 9/11/26 which is a couple weeks from now. I decided that it was not prioritized the way I would’ve liked it to be so I (yes pulled a Karen) escalated it to the corporate office and made them get me in sooner. I got a call from the store manager earlier today and she advised me she would get me in on 9/7/26 at a specialized Audi (VAG) shop which has pretty good ratings online. The coolant leak is obvious as I saw some corrosion on the solenoid valve close to the air intake flow box seated on the engine which was a pink color and it’s got to be coolant. I have been thinking of calling this shop and requesting a full diagnostic test on everything and not only on the obvious coolant leak, to ensure that I get the most out of the 30 day warranty and don’t let anything else slide until I have to pay a deductible to get something fixed that would be spotted now during this coolant leak. Also I know the notorious water pump issue and it should not be giving issues at 41K miles. If so, replacing the water pump is better now on their dime instead of mine for future sake. Let me know what your thoughts are. And yes I know …. I am getting used to being an Audi owner already at 3 weeks 🤣
