I’m in Queensland and looking for advice about an escalating situation with our neighbours.
We’ve had ongoing problems with their dogs barking excessively. Complaints have been made to council, and they’ll usually control the barking for a while, but eventually it starts up again.
Since complaints have been made, their behaviour towards us has become increasingly hostile. They’ve sent derogatory messages, yell things out when they see us and seem to deliberately try to provoke us into reacting or starting an argument.
We’ve been avoiding engaging with them because we don’t want the situation escalating into a physical confrontation.
We’re now documenting incidents, saving messages and keeping any relevant security camera footage.
At what point does this go beyond a normal neighbour dispute and become harassment or intimidation?
Would you report the behaviour to QLD Police now just to establish a record, even if no direct threats have been made?
Has anyone in Queensland dealt with something similar, and what ended up being the best way to handle it?

My partner and I have just had a child and her parents are trying to come to australia and live on a more permanent basis, they have a visa that allows them to stay 8 months of the year i think. They have some control over her bank account and I recently found out they spent about 8k of the money we were saving for a home deposit for our childs future.

The mother and father both tried to move into my place with us, this happened once before and they spent all their money on gambling (pokies) and used my partners card for everyday expenses. The mother in law got very upset when i said no this time to staying with us.

They have told my partner to dump me and threatened to cut her off from the family who she loves very much, especially her neices. My partner has moved out to her aunties with my child.

I really feel this is abusive, my partner wasnt allowed to date men until 30. Her family has gotten aggressive since and this has happened with my mother in law before with her son and his partner. Their culture is one that extracts value from their children (no pensions there) and their retirement is funded by their children.

Theres a lot more to tell but my question is, is there any way i can get some help against these parents? Any advice? Ive been a bit helpless here

So earlier it in the year I had a car accident, sold the car to the tow company afterwards (wasn’t totaled, but wasn’t worth fixing) and filled out paperwork there. They said they’d handle everything. Well I have realised that the car is still in my name online and the notice of disposal is apparently a thing I wasn’t aware of. (First car + I’m kinda stupid). Hey i just got a wired email from my ex boss. I was working as a Working holiday visa holder in a big company which runs a camping grounds.I was a cleaner and i also got accommodations from them.

Long story short i left the company with my partner (we worked together), in May. Just today i got an email from My ex boss which he claim in it that the locker lock in our room was changed without permission. They hired a locksmith and are demanding we pay the full invoice for the call-out, replacement, and reinstatement costs. Additionally, they warned that this unauthorized alteration could negatively impact our ability to return to Australia in the future.

My partner told her in an office chat that we are looking to applay for skild worker visa in the future.

I fell like she is threatning me without any proff and just wanna hurt me because she feel stupid for paying money on a new lock.

Also I'm pretty sure pepole were living in the room we left.

I dont even remeber i had a locker in my accomudation. And i think she is making it up in order to make sure there is another proof than the fact she had to replace the lock.

And Im sure i didnt replace any lock.

My first reaction was ignoring it.

She is a very unstable woman, she once cursed my partner after they found out some room was dirty.

But now I'm a bit concernd it might affect our future.

The FCA on my car caused sudden and unnecessary braking resulting in a rear end collision. Despite Hyundai subsequently issuing a recall to prevent this exact issue from occurring, they’ve have conveniently ignored my letters to remedy the issue.

Honestly I am here to just get a wider view from the community as my mind is spinning.

I had a probationary employee not pass probation and in retaliation they sent an email claiming I touched them innapropriately (waist, shoulder ect).

They never raised any complaints until after we did her exit interview, at which time she emailed everyone in the workplace from their personal email to make the complaint.

It came across as extremely vindictive, they made a lot allegations some of which relate to the touching and some to my management choices.

HR got the email deleted from people inboxes, I have sought a lawyer to make sure my response was as good as possible.

I deny any waist touching, I did touch her shoulder when wishing her a happy birthday.

In some instances I have co workers at the events who can say nothing of that sort happened.

I am spiraling as it took a while for me to even be able to give my statement and HR has not told me what the process is from here.

I dont know what im asking for here, its just been extremely tough, im not on forced leave but I have not gone back to work since as I have felt ill from the allegations.

Hello, so long story short my landlord never lodged my bond and obviously is now ignoring me and probably has no intention of giving it back.

I already contacted NSW Fair Trading and they advised me to first give out all of the proofs I had so that they could fine them (idk if that will ever happen) but also to file a complaint via NCAT to seek individual outcome (they stole 660$ from me).

The issue is that I tried signing up but the account requires an Australian post adress, which I do not have since I've moved out of the country for weeks now and don't plan on coming back, and idk if I have any way to circumvent it and I'm scared I'll stumble on other similar issues (Australian mobile number etc ...).

So is there any way to do it ? Can foreigners abroad still can get this type of justice or should I just give up on my dollars ?

Not gonna explain why I need to leave, but the police won't help, none of the "helplines" will help. My mother called the police on me, and I got arrested after trying to take them from her home myself. Went to court, and I was found innocent. What should I do? I also have proof that my mother is in possession of child sexual assault material, but the police also don't believe me of that. Desperately need help. No police, and no helplines involved. I currently have NO other forms of identification or ID.

Apologies if this doesn’t belong here. Hello, I’ve just recieved a fine for no registration and no insurance, totalling over $1100. The offence is dated 26/07/2026, but was issued 19/08/2026, and I’ve only just received it now. I have paid my rego instantly after receiving the fine (somehow just forgot to pay it earlier). However, I know that since the date of my offence, I have driven on that same road where the camera got me for no rego. My question is, will I be receiving another fine (or more) for the same offence and same amount, and am I required to pay it?

I’m 39, F, with two kids 9 and 10, divorced for 3 years after 13 years of marriage. I earn around 130 k and ex earns around 60 k. One of the kids have special needs and i do all the therapy organising, liaising with school etc. I work full time shift work and have to work all weekends to bump up my salary. He works office job, 9-5 with weekend off.

At the peak of the divorce drama, he moved out, but then moved back to my house as i refused kids to stay with him because they were repeatedly getting sick under his care. It was also emotionally difficult for both kids and myself. He applied for child support during this time and centrelink directed me to pay him around $1250 per month as I earn more than him. With the cost of living these days, I would be lucky if i can save this amount every month after paying for all expenses myself. The child support was ceased upon my request to ex. Instead, he now lives with me and kids, chooses to pay $300 per month but uses all my groceries, household appliances and does not pay separate for utilities. If i don’t accept this arrangement, he threatens to apply for child support again where i will have to pay him. (There was no financial settlement after divorce as he didn’t work much during our time together).

The other option he told me is that he will leave the house and kids with me forever. If this happens, I wont be able to work rotating roster as i cant get back home on time (3-4 days a week) after 12 hour shifts to do school pickups and drop offs. I contacted ‘child care at home’ but they can only offer care on ‘set days’ and cannot accommodate to my rotating roster requirements. Work wont give flexible arrangements either as they expect everyone to follow same rules.
I cant afford legal advice. Legal aid wont take my case as i earn over 100k. I have been working full time including all weekends for a long time to run the household. He is a uni drop out, has been doing some occasional casual warehouse roles until recently where he transitioned to a office job. Centrelink doesn’t want to know any of my hardworking history or how i supported my ex during the times when he had no job etc.. I find it exhausting having to work full time and use all my salary to spend for the expenses without much savings, meanwhile he keeps all the salary to himself, paying me $300 per month for all of it. What can I do? Is anyone is similar situation?

This is in Victoria how likely is it to be triggered I am working in finance role but more operational day to day of course I have some knowledge of working dynamics of the business things such as

My friend got this email from the real estate today:

Context: They'd vacated the property on 10th Aug. But the bond wasn't refunded because the landlord felt it was not sufficiently clean. Then the bond cleaners had to go back in. But the property was already listed for a sale about 10 days after they vacated. The bond cleaners apparently were a bit taken aback on the amount of things the landlord wanted to be re-done. Nevertheless they did it as they'd promised. It's been an unpleasant experience with this landlord for my friend who kept the property clean and didn't have issues with previous rentals.

Email: The cleaners returned property keys late last week and I went in and inspected the cleaning and am now satisfied that the property has been restored to being returned reasonably clean.

There is damage to the back third bedroom carpet, which I believe to have been caused by an office chair. The rental provider has requested compensation of $200.00 for this damage.

Please confirm if you wish to pay the $200.00 or have this amount deducted from your property bond.

Question: do they pay the $200 bucks and be done with it? Or is there a case for arguing it's wear and tear? The friend is happy to pay just to end it. But I wanted to find out from the experts here!

We’re having cables installed and wanted to use an existing conduit. The tradie measured everything and said this wasn’t possible, so they quoted for installing a new conduit through the walls. Based on my estimate, this would cost around 4x more than simply using the existing conduit.

Yesterday, the tradie cut the new conduit, then realised they’d measured incorrectly and that the existing conduit must in fact be used (the new conduit was useless). They patched the new conduit and ran the cables through the existing conduit instead.

They’ve now offered only 5% off the original quote, despite admitting the issue was caused by their measurement error.
As I see it, they:
-Quoted for work that wasn’t actually necessary.
-Didn’t re-check their measurements before starting.
-Only realised the mistake after cutting the new conduit route through the walls

I haven’t paid anything yet. I’d like to pay the reasonable cost of the work that was actually required, rather than the original quote.
Do I have a leg to stand on here? What would be a reasonable way to handle this? Thanks

My MIL has advanced cancer and has moved in with us so that we can support her full time.
I am executor of her will, my wife and I jointly hold enduring power of attorney.
MIL wants to sell her house, pay off her bills and split the proceeds 50/50 between her son and my wife, so that it is all taken care of before she passes.
However I have been reading up and I am acutely aware that it is not a good thing for her to gift an attorney a large sum of money.
We need advice from an estate lawyer on this, but I don’t know if we can contact them to ask for advice or if she has to contact them herself without our help. This becomes even more difficult if she has to meet them face to face as due to her cancer she can’t walk far and we are her only means of transport/support.
MIL is fully mentally capable and will tell anyone will listen exactly what her plans and wishes are, we just don’t know where to start without getting ourselves into a legal bind.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Note: MIL is not well off, lives off the age pension and has never had legal representation, so doesn’t have an existing legal person to talk to.

I’m trying to look into the legalities of being forced into using your entitlements.

Normally I use leave without pay during the year for sick days as my accrual is shot after a long period of time off last year. I’ve been told I can no longer use leave without pay and if I take a day off, I need to use my annual leave if I have no sick leave available.

My problem with this is if I use my annual leave during the year, I’m then expected to go 2-3 weeks during annual shutdown without pay. When the current structure I was using allowed me to still be able to pay bills during the annual shutdown.

Not sure if this is just standard practise and I’m only now just discovering it but I’d love to know others thoughts.

I had a shoulder tendon tear at work. My claim got accepted and the insurer asked for 12 months worth of payslip to workout my payments. Out of which close to 5 Months, i was on unpaid parental leave only working the weekends. The case manager says it will have an effect on my pay. I’ve tried to find examples online so I can get an idea of how it should be written and what the layout should be but different websites provide different information and most of it is irrelevant. I have no experience with law so I’m 99% sure my Google search parameters are not even correct and I don’t know what to look for. The closest I’ve found was a website about business contract law explaining what a representation is.

Where can I find examples of representations in writing or even information about how/what to write for one?

My brother (26M) likely has either schizophrenia or bipolar as said by his former psychiatrist. He was in a mental institution for a couple weeks last year and medicated.

But he has stopped medication since and now his psychosis has gotten pretty bad again. He refuses to talk to anyone and won't take his meds.

He lives with our parents and younger siblings, and he yells obscenities out of nowhere, and has gotten violent a few days ago. We are concerned this will happen again.

Is there any way we can get him help even if he refuses? Will he have a police record if we call them?

EDIT:

* So based on comments we got the cops involved via a (non emergency line report) we've uploaded the security cam footage and their going to handle that.

* I've had a contractor come out and measure a new fence for us to put up wherever the real bondary is

* We have a surveyer booked in not sure when they will attend though

* I've contacted our Solicitor from the house settlement - If its a genuine land dispute we might be able to just get it done through title insurance

We bought a house a bit over a year ago which is a duplex. The neighbour believes the fence is half a meter on their property and keeps bringing it up, being passive agressive about it.
Eg we came home one day to spray paint on our back wall with their House number and a line marking the 50cm of our back wall that is "theirs" so he reaches over the fence to paint that and cut our plants etc since its "his land"

We asked why he didnt mention it during settlement when asked about disptutes, and he plays the game of "oh its no issue" but then continues to bully us about it...

Long story short, he confronted my wife about it again yelling at her and so I've had enough, and I'm willing to pay for a fence survey and get a new fence installed.

The kicker is I want to do it without their involvement, If the boundary comes back 50cm their way we don't care I want to know if I can put a fence up say 60cm from the existing, so its "10cm" or whatever buffer is needed and just leave the old fence for them. Its an old rotting wooden fence and I'll put up a colourbond fence to match our back neighbour.

So question is how much of this can I do without having to talk the the old geezer.
