News Dallas could eliminate $1.5M in Flock camera funding if budget amendment is approved

From the story:

Dallas City Council will assess several budget amendments this week, including one which could eliminate $1.5 million in funding for Flock cameras.

The amendment, proposed by Council Member Adam Bazaldua, proposes using $1 million of the funds for infrastructure like sidewalks and street lighting, and the other $500,000 for eviction advocacy support.

"We’ve been willing to try new technology to keep Dallas safer. Flock cameras were one of those tools," Bazaldua said in a social media post. "But, being willing to try something new also means being willing to admit when it’s not working."

City Council will consider amendments for the fiscal year 2026-27 and 2027-28 biennial budget during its Wednesday meeting. They are expected to take non-binding votes, also called straw votes, on the amendments before approving the budget on first reading.

A majority of Lowest Greenville parking lots will be charging in the near future. A lot of the free lots, or business lots that everyone uses to go elsewhere will soon all be charging. A validation system will be implemented.

Discussion Looking for stories about Green Oaks psych hospital

Upvotes

Green Oaks is a psychiatric hospital at Medical City Dallas. I stayed there when I was 12 years old in 2001 and suffered severe, lifelong trauma. I am looking for people and families who have also had bad experiences at this hospital, which I believe should be closed down. Based on Google reviews alone, many suicides have occurred and so many people have been left scarred for life. I don’t know how they are still open.

Question Vets in East Dallas/Lake Highlands area

One of our cats has been sick the past few days and we’ve gone to VCA Lakewood, but from everything I read it seems like they’re the most expensive option around here (for context was quoted $1,400 for exam, nausea med, labs, and sedated x-ray as part of the recommended treatment plan - cat keeps puking). They’re the only vet we’ve used for our cats so just looking for recommendations if there’s any offices/clinics you’ve been happy with.

For reference the closest vet to us is East Lake Animal Hospital - looking to stay as close to our area as possible as our cats get extremely carsick. Not looking for vet advice, just any experiences you’ve had in this area!

Just to add, we will be getting our cat the care he needs even if we have to get on a payment plan! Just don’t want to have to pay an arm and a leg and a kidney and a left nut in the future if we don’t have to.

I live at the Avalon in Addison. Came home and heard the smoke alarms. Walked behind my building to this. Nobody was home. It was a three alarm fire. Addison farmers branch in Carrollton arrived. They did an amazing job putting it out. Three fireman were injured due to the heat.

Discussion Assistance with a Child that has Cook Children's STAR Medicaid (Vision/Blindness)

Upvotes

My friend's daughter was recommended specialized lenses called Steĺlest for degenerative myopia, but she was also told Medicaid will not cover it.

They told her the minimum out of pocket cost would be about $500.

They also told her there's a high chance she'll be blind in a few years if she does not get these, for why these lenses are so important.

Does anybody have resources for charitable organizations or clinics that will assist her with coverage for this?

My friend said she will travel the entire state if somebody could assist her, because of course there is also concern about another pair and another pair (if her prescription changes through the years) and how to cover the recurring expenses as a Medicaid family.

Thanks for any guidance you can give!

Crime Avoid Royal going east off of 75 if you can

Not sure what is happening, but caught glimpse of a major presence of firetrucks and police around Canyon Creek apartments, traffic is backed up heavily going east on Royal Lane. Looks like something quite serious given the amount of fire trucks there, haven’t seen anything quite like it. hope everyone is ok.
