Discussion Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post

Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post videos of themselves dancing and having a good time. So I just had the thought and I would like to do a Poll on the idea:

My thought is let's have a global forum dance talent show!

How it would work: - You would submit a video of you dancing within a specified time frame to qualify. - Our dance Community here would go through each day and upvote and comment on the videos they would like to continue on to the next round. - I would then go in (maybe appoint someone to help me moderate) and would tally up all the likes and upvotes. - There would be 3-5 rounds to keep everyone engaged and having fun. Sort of like our very own dance competition TV show.

If you like this idea: Upvote and put "YES!" in the comments

If you're not into it: DownVote & put "Not Interested" in the comments section

Seems like this could be a lot of fun and get the Community we have here more active with one another.

Happy Dancing! I'm looking forward to hearing y'alls thoughts! ✨️

Amateur How do you learn to just… dance naturally at a club?

Upvotes

How do people learn to just move naturally to music? I’ll be at a club and see people dancing to a song they probably haven’t even heard before, and they just look smooth. Nothing crazy or choreographed, they’re just moving with the beat, and it looks natural.

I cannot do that to save my life.

People always say things like “just loosen up,” “feel the music,” or “stop thinking about it,” but I genuinely don’t know what that means physically. Even when I’m drunk, I’m still stiff as hell. I’m not trying to become some amazing dancer or have everyone at the club staring at me. I just want enough rhythm and body control that if I’m dancing with a girl, I can comfortably hold my own and look smooth instead of looking like I’ve never moved to music before.
Are there any basic rules of thumb for this? Like:
How do you actually move your body with the beat?
What should your feet/hips/shoulders be doing?
Is there a basic “default” groove you can fall back on with most songs?
Are there exercises that help you become less stiff?
Any YouTube videos/channels that teach casual club dancing for complete beginners, rather than choreography?
I’ve noticed some guys seem incredibly comfortable with rhythm and can make even really simple movements look good, and that’s basically what I want to learn. Nothing flashy, just how to look relaxed, smooth, and comfortable moving to music.

Any advice for someone starting from basically zero would be appreciated.

Discussion What made you choose your dance studio?

Upvotes

A q for dancers and parents of dancers - I’m helping my ballet school with their social media as they’ve recently moved to a new location and expanded their classes. Many of the younger dancers are on a pre-professional pathway, while the adult classes include returning dancers, with beginner classes coming soon.

I’d love to understand what actually influences other people when choosing a studio:

  • What’s most important to you when deciding where to enrol?
  • Are there any immediate deal-breakers?
  • Did you look at the studio’s social media before joining? If so, what did you look for?
  • What kind of content helped you get a feel for the studio or influenced your decision?

Would love to hear what matters most to you! Thank you in advance.

Enjoy my joyful hula hoop dance to an awesome song about Joy (that's me 😁) in Hunterville, NZ.

A big thank you to my lovely friend, Maureen Healey, for not only suggesting this location for me to hula hoop dance, but for featuring in the video too! You are so cool! 🌸

A big hug to my wonderful husband, Michael, for your beautiful camera work. You truly worked your magic! 🫂

I got the idea from what I'm gonna call the *"Twin Serpents"* (the ones that twirl around the rod seen in hospital logos), but the idea itself kind of goes back to the crip walking dance style (that I'm still new to myself lol).

What should I add to or change? I'm not a pro dancer. I only have one season under my belt, so I'm just doing this for fun.

Hey gang!!!

Hope everybody enjoyed their weekend… I most certainly did.

For the first two days, I basically slept about 16 hours a day and just recovered my body, which is quite normal and is part of my routine every single time…

The next two days I found my legs were still quite sore and required a little more baths and Epsom salts and time to heal… I’m still not 100% so I might cut the dancing part of my cardio down to maybe 10 or 15 minutes as, I think I’m putting my legs through too much and it’s taken an incredibly longer period of time to feel normal… I still don’t think I’m 100% as you can tell by my dancing today, I’m not as energetic as usual

also, I ate whatever I wanted for three days… I didn’t go pig out, but I certainly loosened the restrictions of the diet which is completely OK to do once every 4 to 5 weeks for a day or two.

I will weigh myself later today and post the results tomorrow… I forgot my scale at work so I’m gonna have to go use somebody else else’s when I go over for supper tonight

Amateur Which one is better for learning to dance: 1) Hard songs (think KPop Choreo Routines) OR 2) easy songs with repetitive moves (think Tiktok dances)

I'm at a crossroad where I have been using Just Dance to learn dancing. I have tried Easies (like Baby Shark) all the way to Extremes (actual real KPOP choreographies).

I don't know what to continue with. Should I focus on easy songs and try to match every single micro-movement, or continue drilling Extreme songs? I basically drill up until now until I get a megastar using the game's scoring system.
