Survey What Are the Top Three MBTI Types You Would Choose?

This is kind of a poll. I would like to know which three MBTI types you would choose. I would also like to know whether the choices of ENFP women differ from those of ENFP men.

Please rank your choices from first to third:

Question/Advice/Support Curious about Fi + Feels

I’ve been doing some reflection on myself lately because I’ve cried twice already about 2 separate events, both similar in circumstance.

Imma try my best to describe it:
I’ve heard 2 different separate people, both are outliers and most would agree that the circumstance is purely due to their own volition. They both are alienated in their own work place and understandably so, as I also agree that their actions in their separate situations are questionable. Logic states I should stay away and best keep my distance, but as I mull over this, I can’t help but feel bad for these people as I think about how lonely they must feel.

Like….I went full on sob mode, ugly crying because I put myself in their shoes and couldn’t help but feel bad about how lonely they are. I realized that I wouldn’t even wish it upon my worse enemies, and I’m not sure how to feel about it since my brain is saying one thing and my heart is pulling me another.

I’m just genuinely curious about whether other ENFPs have experienced similar things. I know we have strong empathy, but I didn’t expect me to ugly cry for people who really did it to themselves.

Question/Advice/Support My problematic ex friend ESTJ

• Upvotes

I had a friend—well, an ex-friend—who made my life miserable during my 9th and 10th-grade years. We became friends in 9th grade because she didn't know anyone else in the class, so she joined our friend group (ESFP, ISTJ, ISFJ, ESFJ, ISTP, INFP). But as time went on, she acted increasingly weird—displaying the kind of toxic traits associated with an unhealthy ESTJ. She loved to debate and had to be right; if you disagreed, she’d hate you. She despised INFPs and ISTPs, calling them "weird"—everyone knew it, and it really annoyed me. She used to say I was boring and acted like an immature kid with zero emotional intelligence—which wasn't true; I just have a typical ENFP personality. Then came the day we had a falling out: she mocked me over something I’d posted in a group chat. She was laughing at me, which made me angry, so I told her she was unpleasant. I apologized afterward, but she wouldn't hear of it; she started making things up, claiming I’d been a bad influence on her—like saying I didn't know how to speak properly. Honestly, I didn't get it, since I have a good vocabulary—plus, what was the connection? She was trying to pin the blame on me, even though *I* was the victim. After that, she created a group chat—which lasted barely two days—where they called me a "bitch." Then came 10th grade; we changed schools, but of course, she ended up in my class again. She made new friends and told them not to go near me. One day, she started openly criticizing me in front of everyone in a group setting. Okay, this is a total disaster: this girl fits the exact profile of an unhealthy ESTJ, yet—for some reason—she manages to talk to my friends. Now I’m in 11th grade and, naturally, she’s in my class; but the dynamic is flipped—my whole friend group is there, and hers isn't. Of course, she tries to insert herself, and the ESFJ in our group welcomes her warmly. She’s even laughing and chatting with the very people she used to criticize—like the INFPs and ISTPs. Well, I guess that’s not surprising, since she’s a total hypocrite. But why isn't she acting fake with *me*? Probably because she knows I’m onto her—I know pretty much everything about her, given what I’ve just described.
Now I’m wondering what an emotionally intelligent person would do: should I give her yet another chance, or try talking to her? Let me know what you think—feel free to ask me more questions

Discussion Living in two different cities for different parts of the year

• Upvotes

Do any of you ENFP’s have dual residences in two very or not so very parts of the world? And does that come with very different social patterns for you?

I’ve been considering buying a second ā€œhomeā€ in another city. I’m deciding between one in another country that is very different from the one I live in now and a city near the one I’m in now. I have two completely different friend groups in each one, both trying to convince me to come there.

Even if you don’t own your home, but have a similar set up due to work per se please chime in. How has it improved your quality of life? What opportunities if any have arisen due to this lifestyle?

Discussion friends for enfp

• Upvotes

are female and male friendships okay for enfp? a guy i like is an enfp and he is soo sweet and just awesome BUT HE HAS female friends… I am an INTJ and I am okay with that as long as there is boundaries. Our feelings are on the mutual side and I do not know how to process this female friends. They are all different. Some are younger and some are older or same age and he even plays with them online. For any enfp men what are your outlooks on this?

Discussion Questioning the E

I went down a rabbit hole tonight and landed in ENFP territory… except I’m really questioning the E. I can be very talkative and outgoing with people I’m comfortable with, and apparently I’ll tell strangers on the internet anything. I’m much more reserved around people I don’t know in real life social situations. I’ll usually observe first, I love being alone, I don’t need plans every weekend, and even after spending all day with people I genuinely like, I’m usually ready to go home and be by myself.
Give me the right person though? I will not shut the fuck up.
So now I’m stuck between ENFP and INFP.
For the ENFPs here…are you actually extroverted in the traditional sense? Do you genuinely get energized by being around people, or are you more selectively social and still need a lot of alone time?
Basically, how did you know you were ENFP instead of an unusually talkative INFP? šŸ˜‚

Discussion Do people misunderstanding you often?

I'm an ENFP and I've observed that people don't seem to understand me as a whole. They often peg me as someone very cold/mean and kinda dumb. When I start talking, they're mainly just confused as to why I'm so silly goofy and, sometimes they'll even take it badly almost to fit their impression of me in their heads. I'm socially anxious but I try very hard to be myself around others.

I also find that this happens in arguments too. I'll say something and people will almost translate it from the lens of a person with bad intentions. It could be neutral but they'll take it bad. I had a fallout with my best friend because she was upset at me for something I didn't quite understand. So I told her many times I didn't understand and would like to talk about it in depth with her so we can address it to the core (and make sure I don't hurt her like that again). And she'd take it as me invalidating her feelings. Like! I told her that I know she's hurting and it makes me deeply sad and I really want to fix it, but I just don't understand what's going on. We ended up never figuring it. I had to go back to therapy to understand it better.

It really sucks because I don't believe in violence. Hurting people is a no-go. If I don't like something about someone, I'll just take some distance or try to talk about it. But attacking people or taking revenge (which she actually did after our conflict) aren't things I can even fathom doing. My theory is that because I come from that mindset, I don't try to soften my words maybe? Cuz I know I come in peace. So it sounds meaner than it is because people are used to others having those bad intentions.

Has anyone else ever experienced this before? I'm reviewing many conflicts I've had in the past with others and it's possible that this has been happening for at least 15 years.

Question/Advice/Support ENFP e7s how do you take disagreements and honest opinions?

I know an ENFP who surprising does not gel well with people who do not always validate, support their feelings or expect them to own their stuff when confronted about it. They’re not a fan of types that deliver their honest thoughts because of this such as INXJs.

Is this common with ENFPs who are enneagram 7s or is this more of a trauma related issue? I usually hear that ENXPs like to be challenged and hear diff perspectives.

Discussion Is it still manipulation if the outcome was love, not control?

For years, you 'manipulated' someone without them ever knowing, quietly steering them toward a better life. Now they're happy, successful, and grateful to you. But if they ever found out the whole truth, it could destroy both the relationship and their sense of self. Are you obligated to tell them the truth or is it defensible to keep the lie going, as long as the outcome stays good?

Edit: Just to clarify upfront: this is a completely hypothetical discussion topic. It’s not something that actually happened to me.

Discussion Anyone else get mistaken as naive?

All my life people have misunderstood me and labeled me as naive even though I was almost always privvy to whatever they thought I wasn't. I don't know if this is an ENFP thing or something about how I grew up.

Classic example. When people try to stir drama with me by dropping passive aggressive comments, I rarely engage them but I recognize them. If it's an insult, I usually say "yeah that sometimes is true" or "well I haven't had my coffee yet" when I fully understand they are ragebaiting me. I simply refuse to play the game. They often get quietly outraged and assume I was missing the hints that they were being hostile.

I've also had plenty of times where people try to draw me into interpersonal squabbles, which again I REFUSE to take part in unless it's a very clearcut right and wrong. You get toxic people that try to drag you into it and when you refuse to play along, you get labeled as "clueless".

The whole time, I am fully aware of what's going on but choose not to play in the drama.

Boy, would I enjoy it if I did though. There are times these people just seem like they need an attitude adjustment and I choose not to let the rage monster out, because when I let it out, I can get exceptionally harsh (vocally, not physically, I am not much of a melee fighter lol)

I made doodles of little moments between us I thought were silly. They're probably mostly silly to my friend group but I thought I'd share anyway lol

I put on the song Cheap Thrills because I knew my friend liked it so he started singing to it and I decided to start singing back up lol. He thought it was funny and said I was hyping him up.

Question/Advice/Support Is anyone here opposed to the use of psychiatric drugs?

Thank you so much to everyone who has answered this, so far.

The use of psychiatric drugs is everywhere now. I'm 52 years old, and a long time ago, it wasn't universal. It started becoming much more common because sometime in the 1990s, it became legal for prescription drugs to be advertised on television, which made everyone aware of them.

I've been opposed to using psychiatric drugs, and I have to find a counselor at some point in time, because I'm on parole right now, and getting some kind of 'mental help' is required. I briefly was going and seeing a counselor, but she started inevitably pushing me in the direction of using psychiatric drugs. I am totally, completely opposed to it, and it's absolutely out of the question. I was just curious if any ENFPs agreed with this, that you have to protect yourself and don't get addicted to psychiatric drugs, because all of them have unwanted side effects, they are extremely hard to withdraw from, they don't really help, and there are other ways to solve problems besides just taking a drug.

Random Babymetal might be the most ENFP band

I know people talk sometimes about music in the context of MBTI :) And I was thinking, to me, probably the most ENFP band has got to be Babymetal. Like, we're well-known for using Ne to come up with lots of new ideas, drawing together from a broad pool of concepts and experiences, connecting things together that others might not... and our Fi makes us care more about authenticity than following the crowd. And we do what works with our Te whether or not anyone else thinks it makes sense, haha.

With Babymetal, someone out there thought "You know what'd go together well? Hardcore metal and cutesy Japanese children singing in cute pop voices and doing cute choreographed dances". Like that's totally unexpected, lol, but it works! Then when metal fans gave them flack for not being metal enough, they were like "Nah, we're gonna keep doing this anyway" and now they've become rather popular.

Also, I think we ENFPs work best when we collaborate with others, so we can bounce ideas off one another. And some of Babymetal's best songs (imo anyway) are ones where they collaborated with other musicians.

Plus, everyone who knows us well knows we're friendly goofballs but also have a more serious or even a bit cynical side too, which I think is represented well by the mix of poppiness and metal.

So yeah haha, I submit to you that if we made some sort of chart where we assigned a band to each MBTI type, Babymetal would be ENFP.

Question/Advice/Support ENFPs who don't mesh well with communites or groups, how do you socialize or meet people irl?

For a long time I've always wanted to be a part of something. But I found that I'm very sensitive to the environments and I can be very skittish. Maybe someone says something off or drama happens, or I catch feels and end up having to leave. But I've always had a hard time sticking around, even when people care and like having me around

At the same time I know I crave socialization, connection, and more. What has the rest of y'all been doing to satisfy these feelings?

Discussion confused by the people around me

im a highschooler, ill graduate next year.

ive noticed something shitty mindset developing within me this year.

a lot of people around me, have no interests, hobbies and passions. i tried to start a conversation with one classmate who i got seated with, "what are your hobbies?", she replied with "doomscrolling".

ive noticed that ive been developing a superiority complex towards these kinds of people, my hobbies/interests are something i have pride in, and i comstantly wanna know more stuff, but its crazy knowing some people really dont have many hobbies.

Discussion DAE ever act less informed than they are to hear how someone else explains it to them?

Lately I’ve realized that a way I try to expand my perspective on topics I’m familiar with (but want a more complete understanding of) is by asking questions in a bit of a clueless way. Not to try and undermine their intelligence or my own, but out of pure curiosity.

I like hearing certain people explain things to someone they see as uninformed, as I’ve found those answers tend to be more authentic and lacking a filter they might add on to try and change or conform to what they think I know. Or make the filter so obvious I easily separate it from the rest. Then I ask follow up questions as if I’m hearing of it for the first time to get a more complete idea of their view. I don’t see it as intentionally pretending to be clueless in the moment though, since I build a new understanding of the topic through their eyes throughout the conversation (and only compare it to my own after the fact).

I mainly do this with heavily debated or controversial topics, though sometimes I do it with general things I just want to hear a particular person’s explanation of. I think the main factor is how much stock I feel they put into others’ opinions. If they’re straight shooters that would tell you their genuine thoughts in full without trying to influence yours in any way (LOVE those types) I usually don’t bother as I have no worry of getting a tailored answer.

Sometimes I wonder if the whole habit comes from growing up around judgmental/reactive people while being a curious person who wouldn’t get real answers asking questions that could be misinterpreted as an ego shot. This could be me projecting over being ENFP specific tbh.

Also occasionally do it with common knowledge just for the bit
