My husband thinks the empty space next to the sofa gives the room some breathing room. I keep looking at it and thinking it needs a plant, lamp, or little reading chair.

Are we done decorating, or is he just trying to stop me from buying more furniture?

They always look smudgy or scratch easily. They’ve been in style for SO LONG and I keep waiting for them to fade out just like every other home trend but it’s still everywhere and desired (ex white fridges being seen as cheaper/outdated low class)

I just want to buy a nice white or colorful fridge!!!

Bought a home last month that needed some updating. Previous owner was getting ready to put new carpet in after tearing out the old carpet. We told them to leave it out and that we’d put hardwood in instead.
I’ve never laid any kind of floor before but it was a fun learning experience. Wife’s family really helped out with tearing out the old subfloor and then I went in and out the new floor down.
I work full time so I was just doing little bits here and there before and after my work shifts. Took a few weeks in the end from picture 1 to the finale.
We still have 2 more bedrooms to finish, but we’re very pleased with how it turned out!

Guys I need help with this space above my sink. The other side of the wall is our garage so breaking through it is not an option.
I added a silver rod and some silver hooks, but I think it looks silly now.

How can I make it cute and bonus points if it’s functional!!

EDIT: I can remove the ugly white light, but our kitchen has very little lighting so it does get used very often.

Have this space which is pretty big and just using for storage. What should I do? Where the wall it’s around 11 by 12 where the walk way starts

Just lost on what to do. I already have an office in another room eventually might close this off but that’s not what I want to do currently

Decided to keep our honey oak trim, just update spring it and we couldn’t be happier. Turns out most of our wood furniture is honey oak anyway, so it was a perfect fit!

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the comments. I come from a poor country and I know those plastic chairs can last a long time with very little maintenance, and I feel kind of nostalgic about them. So I'm really happy with all the suggestions everyone is giving me to make an environment that doesn't hide, but complement the chairs and make them part of the design. I am so glad for having showed my doubts about it and having received so many ideas on how to make a cozy and good looking patio.

Hi! I'm in Japan and my patio is tiny and exposed to the elements.

I am eyeing these plastic chairs because they are cheap and can withstand rain and sunshine without risk of rusting, while being very easy to wash with a hose (spider webs, dust, and bird poop) and easy to wipe so I can use them right away. They are also comfortable, which is nice.

But I do find them hideous compared to some even cheaper Ikea wood chairs. Is there a way to make them look good? Perhaps combining with plants, or some other decoration?

My patio is surrounded by my living room with large windows, so I want it to look nice since it's part of the living room view.

My husband and I just purchased our first home and I would like to get my dining room table set up for the holidays as we may potentially host Thanksgiving. I’m stuck on what kind of table to put in here. Ideally, I’d like it to seat at least six people. I like more of a modern vibe, but the room is very elegant with the molding and chandelier so I don’t want it to be too modern that it clashes with the overall character of the home. Any ideas where I can purchase a dining table set that is decent quality but not more than $3000? Or any design ideas in general are appreciated. I’ve also included pictures of the living room and kitchen table so you can see what my style is.

Physically removing the brick isn’t an option but open to surface treatments, etc. Would love to hear your opinions! And if you’ve dealt with a similar project what did you do?

This will be a guest bedroom. Right now our main concern is window treatments. We like curtains but are not sure if there's really enough room for them with the weird window placement, plus the dresser in front of one of them. We have cellular blinds on some other windows in the house but not sure we like the look of only blinds in a bedroom.

Also open to any other design suggestions. I know we badly need a rug.

I have unfortunately fallen victim to the known issue of hardwood floor damage from the Ruggable 2-piece system. I'm in the market for a new rug and still find myself back at Ruggable because of their designs. Has anyone used their all-in-one rug on a hardwood floor? AI search tells me that the silicone backing should not have the same issue as the original latex pad, but I have trust issues.

This space is kind of awkward and in the first picture, there is my desk. I have a runner by the white dresser but trying to figure out a better way to decorate this whole space. Open to all and any ideas.

Please excuse the toddler house clutter — I’d really like some input on what colors, paints, treatments, etc. we could make use of to help our dark wood (walnut?) original 1983 trim feel fresh again. Or, if it’s not possible, tell me I’m crazy for thinking we can do something to make this trim feel modern 😅

The latest round of designer advice is all about breaking decorating rules, and some of it is useful, but I think social media has turned rule-breaking into its own rule. A tiny living room does not automatically need one oversized statement piece, mismatched dining chairs, an exposed bulb, and art leaning on the floor. Those choices can look great when the room has good proportions, enough light, and someone willing to keep editing the space. In a normal rental or a 900-square-foot house, the boring basics still do a lot of work: curtains hung high, lamps at different heights, furniture that leaves a real walkway, and fewer small objects scattered across every surface. I have a smaller budget than I did a few years ago, which has made me much pickier about buying decor just because it looks clever in a styled photo. The rooms I keep saving now are not rule-free, they just feel settled and personal instead of trying to prove that the owner knows the current rules

I can’t obtain a reasonably priced gold shower door that will match current wallpaper and once I remove that white wood eyesore behind light fixture, the wallpaper will need redone anyways. Dark paper is now.
