Discussion Lightroom is down

Upvotes

I just tried Lr desktop, and it wouldn't start properly - no images, not local and not cloud.

So I tried lightroom.adobe.com, also down:

But the status page suggests otherwise - it's lying 😄 :

Discussion Why did you start with photography?

Upvotes

Hi mods, please dont remove this, am just curious

anyways, hi everyone, I know nothing about photography :)

I work in social media marketing for a company that helps photographers with a lot of stuff lets not get into that

I am new here and I want to understand photographers, and what's better than asking people from its community itself.

I want to understand you guys
so here are my questions, would be really grateful if u answer

  1. What got you into photography in the first place, what still gets you excited about it now?
  2. What's your insta feed like when it comes to photography, like is it curated/aesthetic or more raw behind the scenes stuff
  3. What's the most annoying/tedious task for u guys while editing, like retouching skin, removing blemishes, teeth whitening, eye stuff, that kind of repetitive touch up work?
  4. also curious how u guys feel about AI tools being part of editing now, like does it feel helpful or does it feel like its taking away from the actual craft?

HELP - Lightroom Classic Importing RAWs after JPGs in LC

I made a bit of a mistake and accidentally only imported my JPG files instead of RAW+JPG. Unfortunately I didn't notice this until after i already sorted and rated them. Is there any way for me to "add" the RAWs to the JPG images so I get the same result as if i imported them together, without having to go through all of them manually and redo everything? Discussion Lightroom 5 DVD found...does it still work?

hi

i found a LR 5 DVD. it has serial number on it. I installed it on a Windows 10 laptop. But after playing around for a few minutes, LR 5 crashed.

I have Windows7 DVD that i can install on an old laptop (Thinkpad t440p). Should I try LR 5 on Windows 7?

i dont know how to use photo editing software at all. But I want to learn. I have a Pentax DSLR from 2005. I have only been shooting jpg so far. Now I have LR 5, i want to try Raw and want to learn to edit.

Also, is there a limit on how many times i install this LR 5 DVD?

Thanks!!!

HELP - Lightroom Lightroom suddenly can’t AI-denoise my RAW CR3 photos

It used to work for me at the beginning of this year! I haven’t shot anywhere dark this summer, so I haven’t used it for months, but it suddenly stopped working. It says the format is not supported. Has anyone experienced this?

Discussion Is the M5 overkill or just bite the bullet?

Working wedding photographer here with about 35-40 weddings a year. I typically send my first batch through Aftershoot, for every hour I am at the wedding I spend twice as much editing/fine tuning/triple checking, send the entire gallery (1100ish photos) through denoise, but I am still on a 2019 cheese grater.

I am not asking editing advice but I know I will need to update sooner than later because of OS intel service. I am just seeing if I should spend the money on an M5 or if it is just going to be too much. TIA!

HELP - Lightroom Exporting not working

macOS AppStore version 9.5.1

Export dialogue pops up but when you click “export” nothing happens - no export progress bar and no photos exported.

Anyone else experiencing this? I believe it’s due to the latest version released as it was working fine last week.

Discussion Can't Adjust Mask Overlay Opacity in Lightroom Classic

Lightroom 15.0.1. MacOS 15.7.3

I wish to change the opacity, but selecting Overlay Settings under the 3 dots has no effect - noting opens or changes. Clicking the actual color square has same result.

Pressing O on the keyboard does cycle through several colors, but again I need to control the opacity.

HELP - Lightroom Classic Large files and presets not sticking

Hey yall. I have large files from my canon R5ii and compared to my other photo friends with similarly-spec’d computers, mine loads things 4x as slowly. I have to click a preset multiple times after a photo has loaded (which can take more than 30 seconds) in order for it to stick before I make any adjustments … after it reloads again.

Has anyone seen any workarounds for this? I’m deep in wedding season and I’m going to throw my laptop against the wall. Even on my husband’s gaming PC, it takes so long to load and edit just one photo.

The preset thing is also on non-large files. I click it, it shows it’s placed, then when I go to edit, it’s back to the original photo and I have to go select the preset again.

I’ve put my specs on here multiple times and sure I could always use more ram, but my husband’s gaming computer has the same issue so … what gives

Discussion Looking for Excire Search 2026 Lightroom code

The official online shop indicates that existing customers can share a code with “other photo enthusiasts” to half the initial price (to £99). If anybody has a spare one it would be very helpful, thanks!

Discussion Making the Library Filter Attributes options permanently visible in Develop module.

How do I get these things to stay /stick on the black bar in Library and Develop module (LrC).

For some reason they were always present and are super useful to filter large shoots with multiple themes. However recently they disappeared and I can't figure out how to get them to stay stuck to the black bar when opening and closing LrC. I know I can force them on there by clicking on the equivalent options on the Attribute bar in the library module, but I have to do this everytime - which was not the case before.

I've tried saving them as a named preset, but this still doesn't retain the options after reopening or swapping catalogues.

BTW what is that black bar actually called?

HELP - Lightroom Advice on how to make Lightroom faster than a turtle

Just got Lightroom the other day and maybe it’s my computer but literally applying any effect, filter, edit, masking, denoise, etc takes forever. I had only like 20 pictures I wanted to edit the other day and it probably took like 2 hours bc everything you click on takes forever to load. You’d think downloading the program would also download all the effects and stuff and not once you hover over it with your mouse.

HELP - Lightroom Classic M4 Pro (24 GB) | macOS Tahoe 26.6.2 | LrC v15.5.1 & Premiere Pro | High Power Mode

The Issue

Tasks like AEB HDR merges, timelapse exports, and Premiere renders are running extremely slow. Under heavy workloads, the system never ramps up—fans stay completely silent.

Live Diagnostic (powermetrics during timelapse export)

  • CPU: 100% load across 14 cores (~29–35W)
  • GPU: Effectively idle at ~50 mW (0.05W)
  • Thermals: Fans at 0 RPM because overall system package draw never trips thermal limits.

Lightroom/Premiere are failing to offload rendering to the GPU, leaving the CPU to bottleneck the entire export.

Troubleshooting Already Done

  • Settings: Toggled GPU acceleration (Auto / Custom / Off) in LrC; set macOS to High Power Mode.
  • Caches & Storage: Purged all preview, scratch, and media caches. Operating 100% on internal SSD (Disk Utility clean).
  • Installs: Clean reinstalled Adobe CC and performed a clean macOS reinstall; tested in Safe Mode.
  • Hardware: Apple Diagnostics passed clean; tested on OEM MagSafe and high-wattage USB-C PD.

Question: Has anyone on LrC 15.5.1 / macOS Tahoe run into this issue where Metal/GPU compute fails to engage during export pipelines, or found a terminal/config workaround to force GPU dispatch?

HELP Moving to the cloud

** *I could not change the heading/subject* but this should read moving from desktop version Lightroom V** ***to subscription to Lightroom classic\

Hi – seeking wisdom from the community here.

I’ve been avoiding what will become a lifetime subscription to utilize software that I used to purchase and own. I’ve come to the realization I must subscribe.

What I didn’t realize is this was gonna further lead to upgrading my MacBook.

I am a very part-time professional and full-time enthusiast, and someone who consistently buys used products on Facebook marketplace.

I shoot with D850 and one of the primary reasons for purchasing is to be able to shoot in RAW and process accordingly. I will want to take advantage of the new/current features, including certainly AI.

Of course, this means I now need to buy a new larger external hard drive and will also subscribe to Backblaze to backup my new 4TB drive🤷‍♂️(unless someone has a better idea)

I do not want to face the pinwheel, but also don’t want to buy the most current laptop. I am focused on buying something that should last through Adobe‘s upgrades for hopefully 3+ years again, avoiding the pinwheel.

Who knew that when I decided to upgrade from my D300, the camera equipment would be less expensive than the additional hardware and software to gain the full benefit?🤣

With that said which MacBook configuration can I get away with and be happy?

Thanks in advance!

HELP - Lightroom Classic Masks Can't be adjusted anymore

Hey everyone

LR Classic is up to date, but masks seem to be broken on both my mac mini and macbook pro. Once you set the mask, you cannot reselect it to make adjustments nor reposition it (after copying to another photo for example.)

Any tips? Did I miss something during an update that is making this happen?

Any help is appreciated.

Processing Question AI and Astrophotography

Hello, Reddit!!

My question regards the treatment Lightroom gives to Astrophotography. Have you noticed any AI edit of the pics which makes them fake? I have some trouble recognizing whether they are fake or not, so I'd like to confirm if my photographies remain reliable after editing on that software. Also, how could I recognize such photos?

HELP Looking for 1k laptop , can I avoid Mac?

Hello, so I have been looking for a laptop, price at around 1000 euros, Greek market (sadly). Basic needs: I want to do photo editing , learn some video editing (not too heavy stuff) and I use mechanical engineering programs which means that mac os would most likely be a problem at some point. Also I will carry it around A LOT which is why I am trying to avoid a gaming laptop. Battery life is always nice but not major problem.

The options I am considering are something like Lenovo slim 5 OLED or a Yoga slim 7i OLED (or maybe an asus vivobook) on the light side or an ASUS TUF or LENOVO LOQ on the more heavy side .

slim 5 (https://www.e-lenovo.gr/ideapad-slim-5-series/lenovo-ideapad-slim-5-14akp10-oled400nits-ryzenai7-350-32gb-ssd1tb-w11-cosmicblue-ultralight-milspecs-aluminum.html )

or the yoga slim 7i (https://www.e-lenovo.gr/lenovo-yoga-slim-7i-14ill10-aura-edition-oled600nits-coreultra7-258v-32gb-ssd1tb-w11-3y-premiumcare.html?search=lenovo%20yoga%20slim )

On the lenovo slim I am worried about the integrated graphics and don't know if it can handle adobe lightroom and da vinci well. On the other hand , the gaming laptops do have better specs but are heavy and don't have an OLED screen.

What would you reccomend ? It can be outside my options too. Also, if anyone has an experience with the laptops , or uses a windows laptop for Adobe lightroom a feedback would help a lot. I am worried about the integrated graphics on the non gaming. Should I be looking for a gaming laptop and skip the light options with OLED ? Thanks in advance, really appreciate it.

*** IMPORTANT: I am NOT a professional at all. Quite the opposite, I want to start working on my photos and want to learn video but it's not like for work. So I don't want to work on too heavy stuff, but I do want to be able to work on these programs. If I like it , want to do more stuff etc it won't happen any time soon

HELP Lightroom from the Mac App Store vs Classic - What am I actually giving up?

I used to edit in Lightroom Classic and never really had any issues with it, other than it being slow from time to time.

What drove me was insane was all the extra Adobe stuff running on my Mac. I was only using Lightroom, so having what felt like 12 freaking Adobe apps, / helpers, and background processes installed just to run one program annoyed the hell out of me.

I’ve bounced around between different photo editors trying to recreate the workflow I had with Lightroom Classic. A few have come close, but I’ve never found one that completely replaced it.

I never really used the cloud version of Lightroom, so I don’t know much about it. I’ve heard that if you install Lightroom through the Mac App Store, you basically get Lightroom without all the extra Creative Cloud stuff.

Is that actually true?

And if I went that route, how much would I be giving up compared to Lightroom Classic? Can the cloud Lightroom handle most of the same editing, tasks, organization, etc., or are there still things that really require Lightroom Classic?

Basically, I’d like Lightroom back. I just don’t want the rest of Adobe moving into my Mac with it.

Processing Question Recommended resources for masking and color grading?

Hello! I am looking for books or videos or paid courses that cover, among other things, masking (e.g. light sculpting) and color grading.

I have used Lightroom for several years but I feel I am still weak on these. What do you recommend? If there are books, that's nice. I am open to YouTube resources if they're structured, but a paid course would be great (if it covers everything nicely and in a structured way).

Thank you!

Workflow What is your workflow when you want to use photoshop too?

I want to remove distractions in photoshop first and then apply style changes in Lightroom, but realized I lose the raw file and its dynamic capabilities afterwards. I don’t want to use photoshop for style changes. Any tips for a non destructive workflow?

ETA: another question, how destructive is it if I edit in photoshop first then in Lightroom?
