Survey / Poll / Question What type seems to be rarest in men? Or in women?
Have you noticed the rarity of a certain type in either men or women just from your personal experience? I’ve noticed for instance that men seem more likely to be intuitive types whereas women seem more likely to be sensing. What are some trends you’ve personally observed? Of course there are just general observations and individuals differ case by case but what comes to mind?

Light MBTI Discussion How do FEEL reading books/watching movies?
Hey, so I was wondering that how do all the MBTI types actually feel before, during and after reading any sort of a novel or watching a movie?
How do you react to all these genres:?
Psychologically Twisted (Verity, The Silent Patient, Fractured)
Dark Romance (Haunting Adeline, 365 Days)
Purely Fictional (Hobbit, Harry Potter)

Light MBTI Discussion The Root of Intuitive Bias
I think the problem with this community and why there's an overrepresentation of intuitives over sensing types isn't because sensors prefer being "out in the 'real' world doing useful stuff" but because we have created a dichotomy that has a very clearly more attractive side.
That dichotomy is abstract vs concrete thinking. Where abstract is: thinking about things not in the real world, looking at the deeper meaning of things, finding hidden connections.
As opposed to concrete thinking which is: strict facts, step by step instructions, dealing with what's in front of you.
Someone who sees themselves as intelligent, or has interests like philosophy, math, science or fiction is likely to identify with the former.
Why I Think this is Wrong
Cognitive functions are there to measure the extent of your thinking but the nature of it. This is why I propose a new dichotomy that can be better used used as a heuristic when thinking about intuition vs sensing: linear vs non-linear.
Linear thinking is a tendency to a more sequential form of thinking but can be abstract nonetheless by extendending whatever it's given, and pushing it to it's logical conclusion (which isn't necessarily limited to the real world). Concreteness in this form of thinking is about clarity of internal perception: detailed images, clear definitions so they're easier to manipulate and trace back and recombine. Si users can be just as capable at math and abstract reasoning as intuitive types.
Non-linear thinking on the other hand is a tendency to compress information so that a chunk of it can be considered simultaneously, without considering much of the individual steps. It's often skipping around and can lead to a quite strange way of reaching conclusions where sometimes it's more difficult to trace the exact reasoning. It's looking at a broader picture, so it can be faster at reaching certain conclusions, but at the same time can have a harder time with more rigorous reasoning (which is why the intuitives are better at math thing is weird). Likewise the linear thinker will take longer building a bigger picture.
And weirder thing is that the intuitives, especially the "analysts" will be presented as having the best of both worlds which is kinda an unfair presentation. And I'm not saying they should be nerfed, everyone uses both forms of thought all the time. What I am saying is that maybe the way we think about sensing types is outdated and needs to be revisited.
I'd very much like to hear what everyone thinks.

Light MBTI Discussion ISTJ's, are you "stone cold?"
So I don't think ISTJ's are as cold as they seem. I believe my partner is ISTJ. He suits the characteristics of liking predictability, rules, needing explanations for a reason to believe or do something or understand something and relying on facts. But, he is a very silly person especially as he is comfortable with me. I think maybe with strangers he could come across as a bit awkward or distant? But I don't know if cold is a word I'd use to describe him. Perhaps when he is arguing or trying to get a point across. It confuses me because, that's a lot of the stereotypes I've seen about ISTJs but a lot of the people irl I've typed as ISTJ actually joke around a lot and are silly. They do take the facts incredibly seriously at times which can sometimes be annoying but it's also always nice to know I can rely on them for that kind of thing. But yea what's your experience? Thanks in advance!

Personal Advice Which MBTI types would be most compatible with me, and why?
I used to love INFP men. Then I had a traumatic experience with one who also had terrible hygiene, and ever since then I've noticed that certain traits associated with him can trigger reactions in me that I know aren't actually rational.
For example, he was bigger than me, and now I find myself being attracted to probably 99% fewer men who are bigger than me.
I know logically that those things aren't connected. I know that an INFP man isn't inherently anything like him, and I know that someone's physical size obviously says nothing about their character. I can understand that perfectly well on an intellectual level. I'm not suggesting these traits are inherently associated with INFPs; I'm interested in why my brain seems to have attached certain characteristics of one specific person to my perception of the type.
But I think there's a difference between knowing something consciously and having actually internalized it emotionally.
My brain seems to have formed an association that I didn't consciously choose, and understanding the association doesn't automatically make it disappear.
What I keep thinking about, though, is that I wasn't ever physically attracted to him in the first place.
I knew that at the time.
I didn't mistake wanting to help him for attraction. I knew I wasn't attracted to him. His hygiene needed improvement, his health needed improvement, and there were a lot of things about his life that seemed like they needed improvement. And my instinct wasn't really “I want this person.”
It was more like: “this person needs help.”
And I think that's important because I'm realizing that I may have been responding to people's needs before I was really considering my own.
I don't think I was consciously trying to fix him. It wasn't some deliberate thought process where I decided that if I helped him enough, eventually I'd become attracted to him.
It was much more automatic than that.
I saw someone struggling, I understood what was wrong, and I immediately started thinking about what could be done about it.
Looking back, I think that's part of a larger pattern in how I relate to people.
Once I understand someone — their motivations, their problems, what they're struggling with, what they need — I can become very emotionally invested in helping them. And sometimes I think I become so focused on understanding the other person that I stop asking what the relationship is actually doing to me.
That's something I've been thinking about a lot.
Because I can logically pick apart my current reactions all I want. I can identify where they're coming from, understand the association, recognize that it's irrational, and explain to myself why one person has nothing to do with another.
And yet the reaction is still there.
I think I need to understand what kind of relationship dynamic actually works for me.
I don't think I want to stop caring about people. I don't think I want to become less compassionate or less willing to help someone.
But I don't want someone else’s needs to become the organizing principle of the relationship.
I want someone who can take care of themselves.
Someone who has their own sense of direction.
Someone who can accept care without unconsciously making me responsible for them.
I want to be able to care about someone without feeling like I have to understand them completely, anticipate their needs, solve their problems, or figure out how to make things better.
And I think I want someone who can turn that attention back toward me. Someone who notices when I'm overwhelmed. Someone who asks what I need without me having to explain it. Someone who is interested in understanding both of us together, rather than simply being someone I understand.
Because I've realized that there's a strange imbalance in the way I approach relationships.
I'm very comfortable asking: “what does this person need?”
I'm much less comfortable asking: “what do i need from this person?”
Even sitting here and thinking solely about what I want in someone feels weird.

Light MBTI Discussion All this time studying MBTI and I just realized Dory and Marlon are my parents
I’m an ISTP and I’ve always loved the movie Finding Nemo and I’ve always considered Dory an ENFP (though I’m sure lots of people would type her ESFP) and Marlon an ISFJ (my experience is most people agree with this). I just realized their whole relationship is my parents despite having typed all 4 of them individually.
My parents are ENFP (mom) and ISFJ (dad). On 9/11 (unfortunate) it will be their 39th year of marriage. They fought a lot when I was a kid. Funny enough, my wife and I have the cognitive pairing (ESFJ-ISTP) of Dominant to inferior mismatch and opposit aux and tert.
The process of my dad learning to loosen up (he’s a fairly frequent skydiver and his first time was his 50th birthday to conquer his fear of heights) and my mom learning to tighten up (she’s learned how to say “no” and she’s moved down from CFO of a small company to an accountant). My mom is 66 and near retirement so she was relieved when her company got bought out so she could move on from her burnout.
I love watching the same process during Finding Nemo. Marlon is wound TIGHT. My dad is nearly OCD. He can’t leave a room if he knows someone left a closet open. His lawn is not a big lawn but he spends 8 hours on it. Marlon learns to stop sweating the small stuff so hard.
At the end there’s an exchange where Marlon thinks Nemo has died and he’s telling Dory how he would’ve never made it that far without her and he thanks her. She doesn’t want it to end and she pleads with him not to dump her because “no one has ever stuck with me this long” and “I remember better with you, I do.” It points to the internal Si relationship Dory has. Ne got them that far because of the “so crazy it might work” and the “we have to do something” Ti blind ENFP.
Anyway, this is word vomit in the morning.
Thanks for reading!

Survey / Poll / Question I wrote an ENTP female character, what did you think?
● My inspiration came from characters like Olive Penderghast and Felix the Cat, characters who possess a mix of cunning and sweetness.
It’s easier to love this type of ENTP than purely cynical characters, because they have a heart.
● She is an 18-year-old young girl who is sharp, creative, and socially magnetic. She reads body language easily, notices what goes unsaid, and uses quick thinking and cleverness to navigate trouble while staying calm and good-humored. Though she usually comes out ahead, she can be manipulative or bend rules when it serves her goals.
Jovial and eloquent, she speaks correctly with an intelligent sense of humor and offers insightful remarks on society’s flaws. She is selective about her inner circle yet warm and supportive with those she trusts. She dislikes monotony and solitude, gives solid advice, and remains flexible with rules. Curious and resilient, she rarely shows emotional instability openly, becoming merely more serious when she is unsettled. The few things that truly shake her are when something very serious happens, when she is left alone for too long, or when something bad befalls the people she loves.
She enjoys singing (for example, in a church choir), listening to music, dancing, swimming, and anything involving water or cleanliness. She is good with children, cooks well, and values her own well-being. She prefers savory everyday flavors over overly sweet ones and has a weak short-term memory. Animals that feel dangerous unsettle her. Academically she struggles with exact sciences but thrives in the humanities and enjoys thoughtful discussion.
Her usual expression conveys youthfulness, shrewdness, and ease. She dresses with style, often in a polo shirt, long pleated skirt, belt, and sneakers. She trusts her creativity to solve problems, her catchphrases are optimistic, whether ironically or not.

About this Community INTJs and ENTPs are overhated
The people perturbed by ENTPs are people who dont think their ideas through and people who dont like talking about ideas.
As far as INTJs go, people seem to be letting fiction affect reality and they assume all INTJs are manipulative schemers when they're not even in top 5 of the most manipulative types. I guess they can be pretentious and that can be annoying but as long as they're not being jerks you can just laugh it off.
I dont know, maybe me being an INTP I'm able to handle them more than other types.
What I do find especially weird is the lack of people being preturbed by INTPs and ENTJs? INTPs pretty much think everything through and are rarely wrong about things, which makes it worse when they do something bad because you just *know* that they dont actually agree with it. There is also the fact that INTPs are very good at blindsiding people when they are bad because they just dont come off as threatening or socially competent. And ENTJs are notorious for gaining power in institutions and betraying people.
In comparison ENTPs are annoying and INTJs are pretentious, while INTPs can be massive hypocrites and ENTJs probably have the highest historical kill count.

Light MBTI Discussion How come xNTPs are considered kindred spirits but xNTJs aren't?
For all intents and purposes INTPs and ENTPs are considered to be like each other just varying in energy. But the other NT duo are not considered to be really that alike. If anything INTJ is paired with INFJ or INTP

Light MBTI Discussion Patterns in the people in our lives
I’ve (INFJ 2w1 sp/sx) noticed a pattern in my life that I want to share and see if anyone has noticed a similar pattern in their life. Here’s a list of all the types that I’ve had a relationship with: INFP, ENFP, ENTP, ESTP, ENFJ and ISTJ. Do you see a pattern there? If you take out the ENTP, all of the men I’ve dated had either the same functions or the complete opposite functions from me. I somewhat suspect the ENTP was actually an ESTP. It doesn’t stop there. I married the ESTP listed above, and we had two INFPs and one ESTJ. All of my kids have opposite functions from me. At work, my colleagues are an INFP, an ESTJ and 3 ISTJs. They all have opposite functions from me too. It’s such a strange coincidence.

Light MBTI Discussion ENTP being “the debater” is kinda overrated
I don’t know about you all, but I rarely, if ever, see ENTPs actually getting into debates on this subreddit. Is “the debater” just kind of a stereotype?
If anything, it seems like most of the people who are constantly debating are other types.
Aren't there other types that fit the “Debater” stereotype better than ENTP?

About this Community How each MBTI reacts when they randomly lose the ability to speak in the group chat for 24 hours
POV: You suddenly can’t send messages for an entire day.
Nobody tells you why.
Everyone else can still talk.
You can read everything.
You just can’t respond 💀
INTJ: Documents everything and prepares their argument for tomorrow.
INTP: Reconstructs the last 72 hours trying to figure out what they possibly did.
ENTJ: “Who made this decision?”
ENTP: Immediately starts looking for loopholes.
INFJ: Wonders whether they unknowingly upset someone.
INFP: Takes it personally and starts questioning whether the group actually likes them.
ENFJ: Worries everyone will assume they did something horrible.
ENFP: Goes from confused → angry → amused → confused again within 15 minutes.
ISTJ: Reviews everything they said looking for the exact moment that caused it.
ISFJ: Assumes there was probably a misunderstanding and waits patiently.
ESTJ: Cannot stand receiving a punishment with zero explanation.
ESFJ: Watching everyone continue the conversation without being able to respond is psychological torture.
ISTP: Closes the app and does something else.
ISFP: Quietly gets annoyed and starts reconsidering the entire group.
ESTP: Finds another way to communicate within 10 minutes.
ESFP: Forced to watch everyone have fun without participating. Actual nightmare.
Meanwhile INTP at 3 AM:
“There HAS to be a reason.”

Light MBTI Discussion Where did the INTJ and ENFP ship come from?
I feel as if the INTJ and ENFP ship has been going around since ages, but mostly since the big rise of the MBTI in 2020-2021 for some reason.
But also, I've been wondering the reason the ship formed. Was it because the avatars from the MBTI page were cute and decided to match them for some reason? Or was it more because the Ne-Fi that ENFP has matches greatly with the Ni-Te INTJ users have? I still don't quite get it since there are better matches for an INTJ though, such as a heavy Te user that can match INTJ way of thinking and bring it down to earth (if the INTJ is way up in their imagination).
Any thoughts, discussions, or things you wanna add? Let us all know ^^
