News Former Ohio State faculty members among those missing following flooding in Nepal

I’ve been following the news ever since hearing about the floods in Nepal, and it has been devastating listening to the stories that have been coming out over the past week since the search and rescue has started.

I never thought that it could somehow become more personal to me other than being a human with loved ones of my own, since I have 0 friends or family from the region. Although it’s been awhile since these professors have been involved within the community, I feel very saddened hearing about this.

As a Fisher student, and even just an OSU student, this hits closer to home. I’ve been mostly more reserved within my classes as sometimes it’s hard to put yourself out there in such a big college, but there are still always people you see and hear about within the community. There is still always talk of the different business classes and what professor classmates and friends have for each class.

Although it is a school with many, many people, in a way… it still feels personal. It would be amazing to somehow be able to do something for Vaasavi and this family during this time, since Rao and Unnava have done so much for many others from the sounds of it. This will definitely be in my thoughts for the foreseeable future. ❤️🙏

Rant OSU WiFi is making me irrationally angry.

3rd yr here. I like to work in 18th Ave, and since the start of the semester, I have had to spend the first 15 minutes of the study session just trying to mess with the wifi enough for it to work. My laptop and phone struggle to connect to it and no other Internet sources. Not to mention, the signal in 18th sucks so bad that I can't even use my hotspot on my phone. Sorry, just annoyed about it and wondering if anyone else is. ALSO? speaking of 18th Ave, one mens toilet stall per floor is criminal. I have to poop, and people stay posted up on Instagram reels in there.

Athletics Don’t waste your money at Juice @RPAC

II’ve been going to Juice @ RPAC pretty regularly recently and usually get a protein shake there every morning after I work out. I’ll normally add one or two extra scoops of protein powder to help hit my protein goals, but I’ve noticed that there’s barely any difference in taste when I add them.
Today, I ordered an Immunity Booster plus an extra scoop of whey protein, and I watched as neither of the add-ons were actually added to my shake. Then, when the shake was poured into the cup, about 30–40% of it had to be thrown away because it didn’t fit.
I just wanted to bring this up because I’d recommend not paying for additional add-ons if you’re getting a shake here. Honestly, if you’re looking for bowls or drinks with customizable add-ons, you may be better off getting them somewhere else.

Question How competitive is Horticulture and Crop Science?

Upvotes

I’m applying for Horticulture and Crop Science for Fall 2027. The admissions website instructed Air Force veterans to apply as transfer students due to the Community College of the Air Force, which I did, however I only have “credits” for completing trainings and schools, no academic classes. I’m worried that this means they’re going to fall back on my high school GPA and test scores, (3.2UW, 31 ACT) which weren’t good enough for me to be accepted the first time I applied before I enlisted. Is Horticulture and Crop competitive enough for me to be worried?

Question Is OSU a good college to get a degree in journalism at?

I made a previous post, but with the responses from that post, I’ve decided I’ll more likely just focus on getting a degree in journalism. Is OSU a good college for journalism?

Question Film at OSU, what’s it like?

Hi! I’m currently a high school senior whose top school is OSU.

I’m looking to go into film. How is the Film Studies program at OSU? How hands on do you get or is it more just theory and that type of thing? What’s the Moving Image Production program all about?

Any and all input is greatly appreciated!

Academics Advice for ARTEDUC1600

I have taken ARTEDUC1600 this semester. After only attending two in-person lectures, I didn't understand much. I wouldn't rely on my notes as I know how they are. Does Prof. Funk upload his slides somewhere or does someone know how I can study for this course?
Or should I just switch to online mode if possible so that I can make work at my pace?
Open for any suggestions on this course :)

Question Holding Events Without Registering

I lead a student organization and I realized that I screwed up by not registering an event space soon enough. If we (around 15 people) meet on the Oval, for around an hour to do our meeting in the evening, will we be okay just this once? How likely is it that campus police will come and stop our meeting or something?

Question abandoned evans lab query

hello all, I am a second year and have visited the abandoned evans lab several times. I've found all sorts of things in there, floppy disks, vhs tapes, old ass textbooks that were published before Rutherfordium was discovered, and I have assumed that the lab was abandoned in the early/mid 90s. can anyone confirm if i'm correct, or if they actually know the official, like, "abandonment" date? thanks guys!

EDIT: talked to my chem ta supervisors it was in fact abandoned in the 90s. Pretty cool if anyone wants to check it out, it’s like trapped in time.

Academics physics 1250: this class is so confusing

i have a quiz this week for physics 1250, and even from the first day i didnt understand the lecture at all, and even now while im sitting down trying to understand even the basic concepts, it actually feels like my brain is being overloaded and that i dont understand a single thing.

i dont know if its a me issue, probably is, but yeah, i genuinely feel horrible having this class on my schedule.

everything happening this past week has genuinely been depressing, and this is the cherry on top.

Student Orgs Are there any LGBT students orgs?

I didn't see a whole lot of LGBT student orgs at the career fair, but I also could have just missed them. But this year I really wanna be part of one.

I know that there's the Little Gay Book Club (which I plan on joining!) but surely there's more, right?

Technology Check out the new and improved OSU Laundry!

Some of you may already know about the original version, laundry.davidstephenson.net. I wanted to post this as a reminder for returning students, an introduction for new students, and to share some big updates.

I completely rewrote the app to make it faster and easier to use. The new version is available at osulaundry.app and works on your phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop.

You don’t need an account to check machine availability. If you choose to sign in with email or Google, you also get access to features like:

  • Pinning your favorite dorm and laundry room
  • Claiming a machine so others can see it’s being used
  • Nudging someone when their machine is finished and you’re waiting
  • Browser and email notifications
  • Live syncing across all your devices

It also has a new UI, improved light and dark modes, and a few Easter eggs.

Whether you’re new to campus or just forgot this existed, I hope it makes doing laundry a little less annoying.

I’d love to hear any feedback, feature ideas, or bug reports!

Question Question for transfer students

I’m a freshman at a different university in Ohio and am looking to potentially transfer in after this year. For those who have transferred in, have you had any problems adapting to life on campus, making friends, and etc?

Also for those who have transferred in, what were your stats like at your previous school?
