Question Series Noob here. What's the point of doing defensive maneuvers against fodder enemies like this instead of just striking them down with basic slashes?

Small appreciation post for one of the special challenge boss in the demo.

First day I fought him I could not even reduce 25% off his health bar. I thought it was impossible for me.

Tried again the next day and tried to learn his patterns. Parry when I needed an opening to heal or to cut off his next attack which I struggled with, deflect the easy attacks to reduce his stamina faster, dodge the running attacks, Issen the jump attacks. Basically using every technique I have at the right place.

Now I am no hit running the same boss. This is the kind of challenge I needed, where I am learning with each failure. Although I have played elden ring and dark souls, and they had similar formula but they were mostly dodge only, this game feels so good to have deflect, parry, dodge, Issen. I hope more future games use similar formula.

Already turning out to be my GOTY alongside potential GTA.

Around the release of Onimusha 3 there was a series of mini-weapons that were released in Japan. Thanks to the early days of Ebay I was able to get ahold of a few and they have been proudly displayed in my collection ever since. I've been waiting 20 years for a new Onimusha and I'm looking forward to Way of the Sword releasing this week!

Discussion What to expect from the new game?

Hey all,

I'm very new to the Onimusha series, this will be my first game.

I just played the demo and really enjoyed it - instant preorder for sure.

I appreciate there will be higher difficulty levels but should I expect it to be something similar to Sekiro or Elden Ring in terms of difficulty? Or are Capcom deliberately going in a different direction to differentiate the game?

Thanks

Question OG Onimusha Players: How nostalgic is WotS?

I played Onimusha 1-3 when they were released back in the day. Beat Onimusha 3 when I was in high school. And I beat all three of them countless times because they were among my favorite games. I still love them and think about them a lot.

How is the new game for people like me who will be 20 years removed from playing these games? Will it feel natural and nostalgic? Is it totally different? Good mix of new and old? Total improvement? Completely different? I just want to know what to expect from someone who to this day still thinks the OG trilogy was perfect.

Discussion Health and stamina bars confusion

Upvotes

Hi legends, I am extremely hyped for this game and cannot wait to play it! The only extremely minor thing I have that I want to mention (not really even a complaint, just a funny little thing) is that the health bar of enemies is yellow, and stamina red. Obviously, my brain has been trained for years from other games that health is red :D When playing the demo, I cannot even remember how many times I mixed up the two - when fighting the secret boss for the first time and getting his stamina low quite quickly, I was like wow, this is not even that hard, he is almost dead - then I realised :D Anyone else being confused? I am sure we will adjust quite quickly, but I thought it was funny.

Discussion Out of all the games coming out in September, what made you pick onimusha?

Upvotes

This is a question for those of you who had to choose. Obviously some people will just buy several

I think the combat seems like something genuinely special. I play a lot of action games and the animations in this one give it a real fluid and cinematic feel.

What's your reasoning?

Discussion Quick Question about preorder

Upvotes

Hey all. So I ordered way of the sword from Best Buy. The game will be released on 09/04 but Best Buy said will be shipped by that day. So does that mean they will ship early and I will get it on the 4th? Or they start shipping on the 4th and it should arrive aftwr the 4th? Did anyone preorder from Best Buy and familiar ?Sorry if it’s a dumb question since I haven’t preordered a brand new game on release since ps2 days, I usually wait for games to be on sad but for Onimusha’s return, I ll make an exception

Discussion Capcom’s Signature Comebacks

I hope Musashi has A variety of Comebacks like Dante and Leon. Some we’ve already heard in the Demo, like “I Hope YOU Do!!” And then there were 3-4 in the Byakuya Fight as well. Its so cool, your character taunting and aura farming in the middle of tough situations. I think thats one of the things that make these characters GOATed. What do you think?

Question Onimusha way of the sword Primium?

Is it worth it? Seeing different costumes etc. I don’t really care for any of that. If it comes with swords or other elements which will be worth it, I go for it.

I know it has t came out, but maybe people know more than me.

Thanks

Question Does Onimusha have a lot of Replayability?

So a bit of a dumb question, but I’m thinking of picking up Way of the Sword because it looks phenomenal. This will however be my first Onimusha game (I’ll more than likely play the others later on too) and I was just curious if the Onimusha games have some decent replay value.
I feel as if Capcom likes to design their games with replayability in mind, like with the RE series offering different game modes, unlockable weapons/cosmetics, ect.
Does Onimusha offer anything along these lines to keep players engaged? Or has Capcom alluded to any post launch plans for Way of the Sword?

Discussion Onimusha Has a Climb and it's Exciting!

Okay party people, I saw the FightinCowboy review last night (known for his soulslike reviews) and he confirmed kinda exactly what I wanted. The game starts like the demo, slower and easier, with a steady rise until the end. I just recently played the original Onimusha and it had the same thing, I think it fits the game so well.

Even in my own experience of playing through the demo multiple times, I think about how I struggled on Ganryu and Byakue the first time and now I fight them and it feels cinematic and seamless. Hearing the full game has that climb, where you master the blade like the real Mushashi did feels very cool.

He even said that some of the final bosses are up there with the best of the Soulslikes (despite the game NOT being one) which excites me because by the time you get to the end, you'll have mastered your sword so really the difficulty is just increasing with your skill.

I know a lot of people had reservations about the difficulty, some people thought it was fine, some people wanted it to be soulslike, so it's nice that it's in the middle (I was fine with the demo difficulty, just wanted more aggression which we got in the extended Gamescom one).

What's everyone most excited for in the full game? I just got the hang of chained Issen last night and can't wait to use it in the full game (plus whatever else we get), also just can't wait to play the real thing because the combat looks so cool and feels so good.

Video Byakue One Button, True/Break Issen only.

https://reddit.com/link/1w46mof/video/b129mh7lkvmh1/player

Beating Byakue using only the light attack button, with a few exceptions. Lock on at the start, as well as dodge for attacks that I was unable to find a True Issen for. I think the hop he does before his shoulder tackle may be counterable, but I was never able to land it so I can't say for sure. His ground explosion and hair attacks I do not believe are counterable and must instead be dodged. I did not allow myself normal attacks or dodge issen. Next step would be to do this with no Break Issen.
