News & Discussion OG heroes would be called broken if released today

Post image
13 Upvotes

If heroes like Tracer, Genji, Torbjorn, or even Winston were released today with their current balance, people would call them broken.

Tracer: Has an omnidirectional movement ability with 3 second cooldown and multiple charges, and get out of jail free ability, and an instakill ultimate every fight.

Genji: Insane movement with a near instant one shot combo, a deflect that lasts forever where he takes no damage, and an ultimate that can guarantee a pick.

Torbjorn: Small hitbox with armor, spam damage that can two tap, an ability that gives him speed boost, fire rate buff, and more health. A turret that has 250hp that he can repair, and an ultimate with no counter play once it’s on the ground.

News & Discussion Healing received: why don't we have this stat already?

Why isn't Blizz adding this really simple to understand stat?

As a tank, I'd like to know how much my style requires from the team (I'm a hammer-happy Rein main).

As a support, I'd like a simple way to show the "no heals" whiner that he got 5k healing in 3 pushes and he's just feeding

As a dps I want proof that the healers are not healing ME, so that I can spam heal diff in chat.

News & Discussion A love letter for Jetpack Cat

Post image
92 Upvotes

Yes, she is broken (in the literal sense) at the moment and no one can argue with that, however there is so much hate and slander around this hero that the love some of us have for her seems burried. Sooo, here's a little letter of appreciation for this wild character.

(Beware, many hot takes or interesting takes depending on your perspective)

There are many reasons to despise the Cat, and just as many to adore the hero, not as a cute character (or because a cat in a jetpack is funny (it is though)) but for what she brings to the game. She is the most important support release since a very very long time (maybe since Kiri, maybe since Ana, maybe since ever its up for debate). Right now, she breaks the rules of the game for how strong she is, but a hero this unique in a game with important rules like Overwatch will take time to find her footing. We already had some form of 'perma-flight' before (previous iterations of Pharah/Echo cannot touch the ground if she desires as well) but Fika is definitely the wildest of all the flyers for her great speed and freedom of movement.

She is at the moment too hard to punish, and can get away with too much too easily, but these problems can be fixed over time, as well as the tether issues players are having: nothing about her is unsolvable. A hero that take big design risks will inevitably take some time to be adjusted, to know where their limits are and how much they can shift the game. I prefer a daring hero like Fika instead of heroes that don't bring much to the table (which is most of them even if they are great designs, they don't shake the game). It is healthy, especially for a game that has lived on for a decade, to have novelties that change a bit the rules of how its played.

Why the Cat is an interesting addition to the game, from my perspective:

- We finally have a new support that can get her hands dirty. Most supports nowadays can do great damage, are lethal, while still being able to provide utility and healing, however how many supports can take extremely aggressive angles, hold frontlines or any space in the game and who have an essential part of their utility in taking duels? Not many, in fact I can only think of Lúcio right now (and probably the first iterations of Kiriko). Cat can get close and personnal, or play objective, help frontline... She can participate in the game in a very versatile way.

- She is one of the hero that enables the most creativity and we need heroes like this, it is skill expressive and unique.

- Who would've thought that the hero who would be closest to Tracer since the release of the game would be Cat? Of course, their gameplay are nothing alike, however how we see top players, e-sport and ranked, use the kitty is quite similar to Tracer, because both are very hard to hit, can go anywhere anytime, are independant and dangerous. I think its a great thing that Tracer is not alone anymore.

- In the E-Sport scene she is a delight to watch, she allows wild team compositions and plays like we've never seen before (just look at the Eichenwald match between Twisted Mind and Zeta Division, nobody can say that it wasn't entertaining as hell). In a way, she is also what Lifeweaver should've been for her team: a hero that can reposition their allies very freely and enable aggressivity.

- She is funny. A goofy hero and a competitive hero aren't incompatible concepts, Lucio is the perfect exemple of that, I believe it is very healthy for the game (just look at all the content this hero is generating and the fun people are having with her, in competitive or in arcade). It might sound simple, but its very important for a video game.

- Finally, she is very popular in the community as a whole and is an unique figure immediately recognisable for Overwatch (in other words a mascot), it is a very good thing to have such a popular character added to the game (the fact that she is a cute oddball is great as well). She brings diversity and, in a way, improves the image of the game.

While you may agree, disagree or laugh at everything I said, I just wanted to share some thoughts on Fika as very interesting addition to the game and that I really appreciate her, and I'm far from alone. It is fun to have Cat on the team, to play her, but right now she is infuriating to fight against, it will take time to figure it out, but this hero has insane potential for Overwatch's future.

I love you Jetpack Cat!

Art by me.

News & Discussion Why is healing more forgiving than doing damage?

I play a fair amount of support and it just hit me today. Why is healing a teammate objectively easier than doing damage to an enemy?

We have Juno and ana who need to aim to heal yes, but Ana’s projectiles are WAY more forgiving when healing allies with the bigger hitbox. I’ve always wondered why that’s the case and that most supports require less aim to heal specifically.

Be it zen orb, moira’s thick spray, mercy’s beam, lucio’s radius. Why don’t we actually have supports that need you to actually hit the shot to heal?

Im not saying we should nor am I saying I want it to happen, but im just curious why they’re designed as such. (If anything, them adding a support that requires that level of aim will screw me over since i dont have good aim)

This feels like whatever AI is trained on probably won't action on the "Jathan" account. Is the only way to get action taken on this kind of stuff to take it online? I haven't seen people behave like this in a while.

EDIT: Too many of you are too dense/illiterate to read the context on a post before making dumbass replies. Thanks to those that did read it first and replied accordingly!

News & Discussion How can I not make people miserable as Roadhog?

I'm very new and so far he's my favorite character to play but I kinda feel like an asshole every time I do because I see nothing but hate for him online. Even my Discord friend who is basically nothing but a ray of sunshine most of the time gave me some light shit for maining him. It's genuinely impacting my enjoyment of the character and the game as a whole because I just don't feel like a good person when playing him. Is there anything I can do to make playing against me a bit more bearable? Any particularly annoying strategies I should avoid? Also please don't just say "just play someone else", that's not helpful

Edit: 37 replies in 10 minutes Jesus fucking Christ okay

News & Discussion Why quick play is so toxic now?

I thought about it for a while now, but yesterday was it for me (in advance, sorry about my English).

I usually play on qp, because it's obviously less stressful than ranked where people actually are expected to have SOME kind of skills. So why am I seeing people whining all the time in the chat while playing qp TT it's literally to play a game without much consequences, to have fun and maybe learn a new character.

Yesterday I played one match where everyone picked a DPS and there was only one support (mercy). Whatever, it's a qp, why should I care. Eventually someone switched to orisa and the person that picked mercy and wrote a message 'im only healing tank and my bag because everyone else picked a dps' or something among the lines.

We were winning.

It's a qp.

I don't understand. But whatever, again, ITS JUST QP, I didn't care that much.

Then I played another match and I chose to play Ana just because I wanted to. We won, I had 18 kills, 13 assists and at the end of the match I see 'ana uninstal' and 'learn what a support means'. Support means' support, not healer TT are we fr? It's a QUICK PLAY, we WON, I was assisting and people still feel a need to point out that my skilled are not enough even for a not ranked match???

Sorry if my post is too long, I just really have enough of people in chat lately. Why care so much??

(EDIT: Just to clear things out - I never throw, I play as best as I can even with characters I don't play often. I'm mostly mad at people whining at teammates that have low level on every hero and expect everyone to play like pros on qp. I just think it's not fair to those people (+ those two situations form yesterday were just weird))

News & Discussion My beloved OW community: Matchmaking is not getting worse, the elo is resettling

It seems like every day there are 5-10 posts about how matchmaking is bad and is getting worse. It may seem like that to you, but that is because you are getting shuffled around to find your true elo as we just had a rank reset. You may feel like a temporarily embarrassed X rank because now you are a lower Y rank, but the truth is, if you're finding it hard to climb out of Y rank, you've likely always been a Y rank. People end up in the ranks they belong in. Yes, you will have unwinnable games regardless of elo, yes, you will have unloseable games regardless of elo, but ultimately, whether or not you climb is determined by your own personal performance in the games that are neither unwinnable nor unloseable.

Elos shift, metas and character strengths change. Maybe your main got weaker, or your toughest matchup got stronger and you slide a bit because you aren't adapting to that. If you're climbing higher than you were before, perhaps it's the opposite. This is the whole point behind rank resets and balance patches.

Don't panic, you will eventually settle on the elo you belong in.

EDIT: this is in reference to comp complaints. I don't play QP so if you're complaining about QP, I don't really have any knowledge of its state, QP might be a mess, idk

News & Discussion 6 Year Old Account with 2000+ Hours False Banned

My account with 2000+ hours that I've had since 2019 recently got banned, I made an appeal, they said they'll investigate deeper and don't make another ticket and they'll get back to me, got back to me 5 days later saying they're doubling down. I'm GM all roles, got a ton of skins/progress, I play collegiate+tournaments, etc... So account means alot to me.

I checked my blizzard data logs after requesting them since they don't tell you why you got banned, and it says I got banned for cheating. Never cheated in my life, never will, so I'm guessing it's an automated anticheat flag from something on my PC. Don't have synapse or anything, I had Forticilent (need it for my uni to submit assignments), and PredatorSense from Acer, that's about it for kernel level stuff I guess, nothing else I can see running in task manager.

Anything I can do? Or am I just cooked and doomed to quit the game forever now? I'm really not bothered to play cat and mouse making alts (and I don't have phone numbers) that will just inevitably get banned now. Heard some people say unless you have a big following online, just give up, is there really nothing I can do?

News & Discussion Why do you vote for escort/payload? (Comp specific)

Upvotes

To me those two gamemodea are easily the worst. ESPECIALLY in comp. I hate how long it takes, I hate the asymmetrical design, I hate how common getting a draw is especially ESPECIALLY E S P E C I A L L Y because of how absurdly long it is compared to the other modes. Its generally not as fun and not as competitive, its by far the worst of both worlds... but when any single map of those two gamemodes shows up people vote for it like people voted for Reagan in the 80s.

My complaints arent so sharp is QP because you just have to do it once, which i think makes it easily much more digestible.

The other three modes are awesome and really fun too. None of them fill me eith dread like those two modes, I just dont see how people would be like "yuck! Push?? I actually want to play escort!" It seems crazy to me anyone would ever see Illios and then vote kings row

News & Discussion Top 5 most Hated Heroes, And why

I'll give you mine, inviting you guys to do the same.

  1. Widowmaker, Getting Oneshot isn't Fun even when she's getting a lot of picks I always tend to win those games. it feels like neither the enemy team nor your team is having fun once she's in the game + She's French.
  2. Anran, boy this character i know she's lowkey dogshit Tierlist based but her design just pisses me off invincibility frames mobile up close the visuals on the fire makes it hard to even see properly.
  3. Jetpack cat small hitbox, perma flight Lowkey contender for the best flanker Dps. obnoxious low effort Team Combos (highnoon, bastion etc) And one of the most toxic Ults, Was playing Junker Queen on Rialto and this Cat waited around the corner and ulted me in the water several times and there was next to nothing i could do about it.
  4. Hanzo, Same thing as widow getting Randomly One shot when you go around a corner isn't Fun
  5. Tracer A good Tracer is a nightmare to deal with. maybe i'm just a bit jealous because i can't play her that well. but luckily I don't see that many of them.

Dishonorable mentions: Roadhog, Rein (The pyscho ones the chase you arcoss the whole map) Symm, Mei, Zarya

I'm an OG Overwatch player played since the Launch of OW1, quit for a few years. recently came back. looking at my profile i started off in Gold and Plat and i hit diamond in season 6, 7 and 8 on DPS. not a lot of games In comp tho, i think once i hit diamond i was satisfied and just mainly Played Quickplay.

I'm in no way a good player, and neither of these heroes are OP or even strong. it's just that i hate playing against them.

News & Discussion The Customization Cap is Hurting the Game's Best Feature

Right now the system only allows for four total emotes/souvenirs (shared), four sprays and four voice lines.

Souvenirs are the least used feature in this game. I rarely see anyone use them and there's so many unique and interesting souvenirs to show off. It's too bad they take up an emote slot and only four total can be used across both emotes and souvenirs.

Out of 100's of emotes, souvenirs and voice lines I think it's time to increase the limit from 4 -> 8 at the very least and they should no longer be shared.

8 emotes slots available, 8 souvenir slots available, and 8 voice line slots available for every hero for a total of 24 unique slots.

Why is this important? Because we all earn and purchase these features from the shop, but most of the time, we don't use them because of the limited space available to customize our heroes.

An easy way to make this game more enjoyable is to open up the customization options, let us have more available to use.

The current system was fine years ago before the battle pass system. Nowadays, it feels too limited and we continue to get more of everything, while having no room to use it.

News & Discussion Trying to learn dps on 6v6

Hey all question on how to learn dps on 6v6, everytime I try to play dps on 6v6 it just gets auto taken by someone else and I feel like throwing if I go a third dps because the other roles will get less value.

I have tried to play 5v5 but I am not going to lie that side of overwatch is not my cup of tea. There are 2 less players a game and yet we are less aware of how the game works I just can't stand it. (maybe its because I play alot more 6v6 so maybe my games are just filled with better skilled players than on 5v5 which i play very rarely so I get really unbalanced teams, Not to say I am godlike at the game I am very well aware of when I am deadweight)

So how do I proceed, Do i just suck it up and purposely throw a 6v6 game by overcrowding my team with dps or do I suck it up and play 5v5 even tho I believe its just borderline unfun.

From what ive gathered it just makes me want 6v6 Role que even with the que times, Id rather have consistant games than quick games.

EDIT: I am NOT a dps player I play tank/support and just want to learn dps hence the title, please stop assuming I am a dps player complaining about having to swap I have 250 more hours on tank and support each smh.

News & Discussion Wuxing is too good a concept for Blizzard to do nothing with.

Upvotes

Since as most of you probably know, Blizzard has stopped any progression towards Stadium. I personally think it's unfair that if in the case Blizzard completely scraps Stadium, as in remove it entirely, that multiple Stadium exclusive maps will just be lost, and since my favorite is Water College, I think it only makes sense that in this hypothetical situation, Wuxing University becomes a map on its own, remain the same mechanically, staying as a control map.

The biggest thing would be creating 2 new sub maps, I don't know the actual word for them, but luckily for us the solution is literally right there, just add two more campuses and we're done. I feel it's the most logical to make it similar to Ilios and Nepal where you can see the other points from one sub map.

Fire College is the obvious best choice for the first new sub map, and honestly I think Metal College could work as the last one, in terms of appearance I assume it would resemble Volskaya Industries from OW classic the most.

I'm mostly just brainstorming here, I'd love to hear you guys' thoughts about this!
