Today's magic item is the Canopic Wrap
Stylish it ain't. But maybe grave robbery will protect you from mummy rot and sometimes rogues. Too bad it doesn't stack at all with your Cloak of Resistance.
Let's ask the following questions:
r/Pathfinder_RPG • u/articubtu • 2h ago
Solved
I am currently reading the core book and looking at running a game, and very specifically teaching playera to play pathfinder (i have experience in various other systems) and reading the sneak attack for rogues, it states "any time her target is denied a dexterity bonus to AC".
Certain armors (splint and half-plate for example) have a maximum Dex bonus of +0. Does this mean that a rogue will always have sneak attack damage vs an opponent in those armours?
I have not been able to find anything elsewhere which leads me to think this is a non-issue or somehow obvious and I'm just missing it.

Hello, I've had the pleasure of a friend hosting the Hell's Rebels adventure path and inviting me to play. We're currently nearing the end of book two and I have come a hairs width from dying a couple of times and have decided I wanted to come up with a potential back up character. Thus far my problem is I just don't know how to match mechanics and concept. I'm trying to make a character who dual wields a pistol and a one handed sword. I've been looking at a pistolero gunslinger but I have realized the problem that I both can't reload when two weapon fighting, and also have such heavy negatives on my to hit chance and don't really know how to increase them so I can hit the broad side of a barn.

English is not my first language so sorry any mistakes
Like the title says i'm going to play Wrath of the Righteous, from what i know my party consists of a Paladin, Alchemist, Rogue, Bloodrager and Magus. I'm thinking of a using the archetype School Savant with the Void School and i want to be AoE guy with CC and damage and i think going for Secret of Magical Discipline is pretty funny and an emergency button. Any advice for that?

I'm reviewing my collection of 1E material (discounting the map tiles and the item decks) and it looks like I'm almost finished, except for possibly a single book: The Gauntlet
It's listed on pathfinderwiki.com as a "Charity Adventure" (https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/The_Gauntlet) and it's listed on aonprd.com (https://aonprd.com/SourceDisplay.aspx?FixedSource=The%20Gauntlet), but I can't find anything on Paizo's website, eBay, or Noble Knight. It has a page count, so I thought I was looking for printed material, but maybe it was only ever a pdf?
I'm admittedly late to 1E, having not even started until 2022, and so I missed keeping up with the releases. I could use help - pointers or knowledge - in regards to this module.
I appreciate your assistance in this matter. Thank you!

I’m working on building a DMPC (small party, busy schedules so we are often down a player) with a kind of meta theme, and am looking for any feats or build ideas to push the idea to even sillier heights.
I’m picturing ”Nick de Chrono” as kind of a cheesy deus ex machina build, with erase from time and any other abilities or builds or feats or traits yall can help me come up with to help flesh it out. In a bad spot? boop-enemy gone for just a second while you figure it out. I imagine divine interference will take part in the build. Maybe brilliant planner? Anything that basically lets me help the group through a single focal point, instead of deciding a monster runs off if things are too tough. Also, being able to join the sole melee person in the front lines is preferable.
Its been a bit challenging for the party in places with people dropping in and out, I think this will provide humor, and relief, without having to adapt stats or monsters on the fly or change the pacing of what I’ve written-enough of that happens regardless.
Anyroad, thanks for the help or any suggestions!

My GM said he would let me play an Ogre but only as a medium sized creature rather than large. which makes some of the ogre feats hard to acquire but also pretty much useless since they do benefit a lot from the character being large(er than their enemies). i'm not too upset about that. but i'm also really not good at martial builds so i'm looking for some recommendations. specifically for a level 7 character.
I have a feeling that a lot of builds can be made around the reach ability. and even when not doing that reach would be an important factor.
I'd like to hear how y'all would build this kind of character.

I'm looking to run a spheres game soon looking for any guides or advice. I'm looking to run a campaign that feels a bit like one piece and spheres looks like a great system for it because of how similar powers can be made, I'd like to add a technique swordfighters can use to project their cuts. Any advice on that topic would also be appreciated. Additionally any advice for things like talent/feat training for downtime & how much downtime to give.

So I'm writing my first ever fanfiction and one of the characters in the fandom I'm writing for plays D&D and Pathfinder. Now I've not played either of these myself so I was wondering how I can write a chapter of 5 people playing Pathfinder Table Top. Any tips I can follow so it'll be as accurate as possible.

I have been running this adventure with some friends and so far we're having a blast! My players haven't gotten to book 4 (the Whisper Out of Time) quite yet, but I like to set things up in advance. So I encountered a part where I would like some advice.
The Stewards of the Vault in the Mysterium at Katheer ask the PCs for assistance. The players are likely to assist because they're on the Count Lowls's trail, whose last known objective at this point was to obtain the Necronomicon. My question here is why would the players go into The Soul of the Mysterium? The missions given to them by the Nethyte priestess are to cover the dead Nethytes with a shroud, recover the body of the high priestess, and reset the security system at the bottom of the Mysterium. There's this puzzle box at the Door to the Soul, and a boss encounter at The Soul itself. But it seems optional. Is it meant to be? Unless the players get curious about the puzzle box, all they need to do is reset the wards of the building and exit at once. Adventure over. Did I miss something or are the players meant to have a reason to enter? The adventure makes it seem like it's clear that Lowls is long gone from Katheer with the Necronomicon in his hands. Or are the players meant to think he's still in there?
How have others run this? Have your players gone in The Soul out of curiosity or their own reasons? Did an NPC give them a reason or urged them to enter? I have my own idea of what might encourage my players to solve the puzzle and enter, but it's a little contrived. So I would like to hear from others that have played or run this adventure.

Amnesia squad: Will, Gwen and Ed, turn back immediately 😜
So a teeny bit of backstory.
My plans for my character post campaign involve a few things, all of which are intended to be an eternal jailer for the Great Old One Bokrug.
As we all know, great old ones have true immortality, and killing them just puts them to sleep for a while until they’re awoken.
So, I intend to pursue a particular flavour of lichdom that technically doesn’t exist in pathfinder, but we’re going to ignore that. Also, I’m going to try my very best to trick Iomedae to blow me up with a divine smiting to give my lichdom an extra bit of juice.
(Yes, I know this is basically the same exact thing that happened with Aroden and Tar-Baphon, but it would be a magnificent irony).
And finally, once mythic lichdom is achieved, sneak into Absalom to take the Test of the Starstone to achieve true divinity.
But here’s the wrinkle, I wouldn’t be doing this out of desire to accumulate power and be a terrifying undead conqueror like TB, it would be to keep a worse thing locked away forever, and so would become essentially Golarion’s first Baelnorn.
Now, onto the possibly silly/stupid decision.
My character is very aware that Pharasma hates undead with her entire self, and will likely send some psychopomps my way to try and snuff me. Obviously at this point that won’t be an issue, but I also can’t blame her, because she’s Pharasma.
So my idea is to annually send her - via some kind of planar courier - a gift in thanks for her understanding, since I’m doing the whole divine Baelnorn thing out of a sense of duty and sacrifice to keep a truly awful thing locked away forever.
My initial thought would be a bouquet of thornless black roses, since pharasmins see those as a sign of good luck.
Thoughts?
Edit: for anyone interested, here’s the deity page I cooked up. The page.

Decided I’d rather play playdough with my toddler this morning than draft a post, and then realized that due to travel, I probably won’t be posting until close to October. So wanted to give you all a heads up.
Inspired by me taking this break, it did make me wonder what are some of the best uses of 1 month of downtime in PF? What items would you craft? Do you break out the business rules? Is there a particular retraining option that is powerful? Let me know!
Hopefully we get a variety of options for a variety of character types too, haha. Don’t want this all to be “my level 20 wizard would hide in his timeless demiplane like a sociopathic introvert to craft for the equivalent of 10 years in solitude”. So maybe what is discussed isn’t the most optimized use of a month period, but perhaps the best thing optimized for your character?

I've been using HeroLab Classic for characters and I've been building my own modules for custom stuff, but that is getting tiresome.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a character app where it's relatively easy to integrate honebrew?
r/Pathfinder_RPG • u/AureliasTenant • 19h ago
This one is just weird? why? this just seems like a mistake. I could sorta get 5th level because sometimes different spellcasting class lists have levels off by one, but off by 2 is wild for full caster compared to full caster.

So my game has been running for a good while, and the party is level 6 now. We do milestone and all that good stuff. It's been a lot of fun doing, and I had the idea to introduce two new characters, one of them being a persistent threat that would appear and begin to hunt down the party members. I was thinking of putting it around CR 12 or 13 and appearing at the worst possible times to come and antagonize them. The problem is, it needs to be something they would genuinely fear, even if the monster itself isn't too crazy.
I'm no master of the game, and I'm certainly not familiar with the hundreds upon hundreds of official monsters, magazine monsters, expansion monsters, 3rd party monsters and so on.
If anyone has any ideas for what to use a base stat block for our dear Nemesis here, please leave it down below. I would greatly appreciate the assistance in helping create something that would both be exciting and terrifying for my party!
Edit: I've seen a lot of good examples tossed my way. I decided on using the base of an Iron Golem and homebrewing some special details. IF MY PLAYERS ARE IN HERE, YOU BETTER LOOK AWAY YOU PERVERTS!
The idea is that the creature absolutely cannot be fought alone, and requires 2 people in melee combat with it at all times.
It's melee attacks with do a flat +20 damage (2d10+20) to targets, but it's full damage split between the victim and allies within 5 feet of them.
I'll give it multiple reactions it can only use once per turn.
If struck in melee combat, it'll use a reaction to grapple the target and damage them.
If struck by a second person, it can't resist and drops the person he was holding.
If hit by a spell, it reflects it back at the caster.
If struck by a second spell, it will have lower resistances and take extra damage.
We only have 1 ranged guy right now so I won't give it anything to resist ranged attacks outside of a flat DR 15 on missiles and melee.
This'll act like a buffer, so a player has to sacrifice their own resources to null the Pursuer's defenses, before their ally can damage it.
While I do want this thing to be a hulking monster that they need to run from, they WILL need to confront it eventually while using teamwork and clever tactics. Because if someone goes all maverick it'll run them down. However, it'll have no ability to stop them from actually FLEEING the encounter. If they escape, and when it first arrives, I'll have the PCs make a group stealth roll, add it up, and every 5-10 minutes I'll have the Pursuer roll perception or search and subtract it's roll off of the total. When it hits 0, it finds them. They will actively be able to hear it searching for them, giving them reason to hurry up.
Why am I making a monster that's this strong against level 6 PCs? They aren't supposed to fight it. Fighting it means death, and they have NO means of resurrection. (I made it so only an item can do it, and they're rarely given. This way they aren't constantly going up and down in fights. Losing has often permanent consequences.)
At the end of this Arc when they hit around level 10 I'll give them the ability to kill the Pursuer, who I am now going to affectionately call, A.M.
"Ai thinks, therefore, I A.M." (Advanced Martial - ((instructor)) )

As it says first time DM, so far i have 3 players with possible 2 more coming. besides that, any advice for the campaign? im planning on doing Milestone, also full lvl HP and spell healing does max. I'm also doing brutal crits (full damage) and lingering injuries.
I started a prologue mission, had the PCs accidentally meet together, follow one of Gaedren's street guys, random NPC, try to take him down, instead he got killed before they got the info, got jumped by Giggles and his thugs. Gave them some extra GP for other items, not much over 100gp to split. Had Giggles escape so they will meet him again. Made up a ledger so they follow something later. once they got to Zellara's after the harrow reading they went to Gaedren's hideout. I ended the session there.
basically I'm asking for First time DM advice and advice on the Curse of the Crimson Throne AP. How should prepare? We play at a game store for 4-5 hours, I have played with all three before. They like to investigate things and get side tracked sometimes.

Today's magic item is the Belt of the Thunderous Charging
Belt of Strength + +2 on bull rush and overrun, and all weapons are one size category larger on charge attacks.
Let's ask the following questions:

So, Pathfinder Prestige Classes. Really used unless you have some specific builds. As the Pathfinder's Base classes and archetypes have much better class features and progression than what we saw in 3.5. Which is a shame, as there as some fun Prestige Class abilities out there.
So let's fix that, shall we?
Every Prestige Class now has 10/10 Alighed class. Meaning you get everything you would have originally got from your previous class levels, on top of the new stuff from the Prestige Class.
What Prestige classes interest you now? Is it just the old classes that people previously took? Or are there classes that could have been awesome, but were restricted by their lack of progression that is now eliminated? I am curious to see what people suggest!

Hello everyone,
Two important things to say before I explain my problem :
- I do not wish to punish those that cancel a session last minute, those I play with are long time friends and I do not wish to banish them or whatever. I do not wish either to play without them.
- Second thing is that I am currently doing the Wrath of The Righteous with my players, so my solution being too OP isn't a problem
Now, to explain my problem : We usually plan sessions at least one week in advance, it happened more than once that someone cancel the day before for X Y or Z reason. Sometime valid to go see their mother at the hospital, sometime absolutely absurd like going to drink a beer with a friend that is in town.
It annoys me that canceling became somewhat accepted, especially since me and some of my players make sure we do not have conflicting agenda.
Anyway, the solution I thought of was to give some sort of "connection bonus".
To explain, as players join sessions after sessions, without cancelling, their players will gain bonuses, the longer, the better. As soon as they cancel for some absurd reason that was totally predictable they lose their entire bonus.
I thought of a few stages, like first day would be something like Resistance, or maybe bonus health and maybe by the 5th or 10th session, some big bonus like +1 in all main Ability scores.
I made this post to ask both players and GM what they thought about my solution, and what they think could make it better.
Thanks for your replies !
Edit : It seems a lot of you kind of gave up on last minute cancel and just considered it as something that just happened. I don't really want that. Also I must say again that I do not wish to play with one less person.
I'll probably run that with my players too to figure out a solution that works with everyone
Edit 2 : Well, it seems basically all of you keep playing the session even though someone is missing without trying to figure out another solution That's a very job like way of doing thing that I cannot agree with. I don't want to play without someone not because they are absolutely needed or whatever, I don't want anyone to be left out. It's a game for fun, it's alright to be a bit unbalanced, it's alright to have a fucked up rhythm. Again, it's not my job, it's a hobby. I read all of your comments, but ultimately, I think I'll find another solution
