I never really know how to start these things without sounding like I am applying for a position in someone's relationship, so I guess I will just start talking about myself and hope somebody makes it to the bottom.
I'm a guy from Southwest Virginia, born and raised in Appalachia, and I'm probably a weird mixture of country and nerd that makes a lot more sense once you actually talk to me. I love where I'm from and I'm pretty attached to this part of the world, but I'm perfectly fine meeting somebody online and seeing where things go. I'm not expecting someone to magically live twenty minutes away from me. That would be convenient, but I also know how geography works.
A lot of my interests fall firmly into the nerd category. I'm into computers and technology, and I'm currently working on my education in IT/computer science. I'm the kind of person who actually enjoys troubleshooting something that isn't working, although there is usually a point about an hour into it where I threaten the computer like it understands what I'm saying.
I'm also a huge sports fan. I love everything from football to wrestling to baseball to NASCAR. Anything in between as well. You can usually find me with something sports wise on television in the background when I am doing something.
I read, write, play games, mess around with Dungeons & Dragons, watch way too many movies and television shows, and generally fall down rabbit holes about whatever happens to catch my attention. I like everything from history and local folklore to horror, true crime, technology, sports, and completely useless trivia. I've also gotten pretty heavily into writing. Some of it is serious fiction and history, and some of it is making fun of local news and the absurd things that happen in the news. My sense of humor can be sarcastic, stupid, dark, dry, or occasionally so childish that I probably shouldn't admit it in a dating post.
Personality-wise, I'm pretty laid back. I can be quiet at first, but once I'm comfortable with somebody that tends to disappear quickly. I like joking around and teasing each other, but I'm also completely capable of having an actual serious conversation. In fact, that's probably what I'm missing more than anything. I don't just want somebody to exchange "hey, what's up?" messages with every three days until one of us eventually disappears. I want somebody I actually look forward to hearing from.
I'm at the point in my life where companionship sounds better than chasing some endless series of casual conversations. I want the person I can send something stupid to at 2 in the afternoon because I know it'll make her laugh. Someone I can talk to about what happened during the day, watch something with, play a game with, complain to, encourage, flirt with, and eventually build all of those little inside jokes with that make absolutely no sense to anyone else.
I don't expect somebody to have all the same interests as me either. Honestly, that might get exhausting. I'd rather meet somebody who has her own interests and gets excited telling me about them. Tell me about the bizarre hobby you could give a forty-minute presentation on. Tell me about the show you're obsessed with. Send me the song you've listened to fourteen times this week. I like people who have things they genuinely care about.
As far as what I'm looking for, ultimately I would like something real and long term. I'm fine with starting online, taking our time, and just seeing whether we actually enjoy talking to each other before trying to plan our entire future after three Reddit messages. Chemistry matters. Conversation matters. Being able to laugh together matters a lot.
And because I know it matters (been ghosted a ton for it), I am a big dude. I am working on myself, but I always plan on being a bigger dude. I am bald, bearded, tattooed, and have a crazy set of eyes that change color depending on the weather and my mood. It is fun. I fully expect to share a picture with you early on. I just want to make sure that I am the one you are looking for as well.
I don't need some perfect opening message either. Just tell me a little about yourself. Age, where you're from, what you're into, and maybe something that you are just excited about or for.
Or just send me your most controversial completely meaningless opinion.
I'll start: there are absolutely television shows that should have been legally prohibited from making their final season.
