resolved How do you change defaults?

I like having snap disabled and selection to be in minutes:seconds rather than ruler time unit, but every time I start a new session, it keeps putting those things back to their original state.

How do I configure it so that snap is disabled and selection be in minutes:seconds by default?

help request Question about Scripting (Sidechain Setup with ReaComp)

I was wondering if you can modify the drag and drop to add a new send function in a way, that when you hold a certain button at the same time, it will automatically set up the send 1/2 -> 3/4 and also put a ReaComp with Detector: Auxiliary Source at the end of the FX chain. I know that this kind of works with a script by selecting both tracks and hitting a hotkey, but in that case I also couldnt get the automatic Detector: Aux Source to work. Thanks!

help request Runtime Error (Yeah, that obe)

Hey folks,

in serious need of help because a paid project is stalling due to the following:

Reaper has increased issues withe Error:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program D:\Reaper\reaper.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Thing is; Its a VST (the SINE Player from Orchestral Tools) which ran perfectly so far and only recently i started getting this error increasingly - and now i literally cannot open the project(s).

I could of course bypass upon loading, but that doesnt solve the problem.

I also installed the Microsoft Visual Libs but it obviously didnt help.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

help request yabridge keeps giving me the 'failed to start wine plugin host' error (i'm on linux mint)

the error pop-up tells me to restart reaper from the terminal to see the actual error, but i don't see any when i do.

i've tried removing and reinstalling wine by uninstalling it manually with mintinstall, but that didn't work either.

if there's any help to be provided here, i'd love to hear it!

help request Reaper Bleeding?

I’m having a weird input bleed issue with my Focusrite 18i20.

We’re recording guitar and bass simultaneously, both DI’d straight into separate interface inputs and set as separate mono channels in Reaper. Guitar is on one input, bass on another.

The problem is that while live monitoring the guitar track, I can also clearly hear the bass coming through that guitar track, almost like the bass input is bleeding into the guitar input.

This setup worked perfectly for well over a year and this has only started happening recently. Nothing obvious has changed.

Has anyone experienced this or know what could cause one input to bleed into another?

EDIT:

Thought id add 2 more bits of detail -

1 - our guitars run through seperate multi fx pedal boards, DI'd straight into the back of the board.

2 - I don't believe its a monitoring issue as the audio from the bass has actually been tracking and recorded onto the guitar audio track.

Really weird, especially as we have run this exact setup for a while with no such issues. Any help us hugely appreciated :)

help request Interface Input Muting On Startup - Windows

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm having a problem that isn't directly due to Reaper, but it's adjacent and I'm running out of ideas on how to resolve it.

I have a windows laptop running Reaper and a Behringer UMC1820 interface that I use for my band's playback rig. Recently I've been having the issue where my none of the inputs are receiving audio in Reaper. After some digging I found that Windows is muting all of the inputs in the actual windows settings causing me to manually select and unmute each and every input I want before Reaper is able to receive the signal. The issue is that I can unmute the mic inputs, but Windows is defaulting back to mute every time the interface is disconnected from the PC. Unfortunately I can't narrow down what change caused this to suddenly be an issue.

What I've tried so far:
-Reinstalled the Behringer driver
-Reset all audio devices to default
-Disabled "Allow applications to take exclusive controls of this device" under audio devices
-Confirmed mic is enabled in privacy and security setting, Reaper is also listed as permitted use.
-Disabled fast start up
-Windows and nvidia drivers are up to date

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get these inputs to be unmuted by default again? I appreciate any help, or other subreddit suggestions that might have the answers.

help request HELLO INTERNET... this is harder than I thought.

(linux fedora)So in my previous post I mentioned a little personal protect I was working on called the "universal DAW project". basically a community made theme and key bind configuration from every major DAW, shoehorn it into reaper and hope for the best.

well it turns out that's harder then I thought. for some reason the configurations keep braking and messing with each other... which is less then ideal

now a lot of people were saying "ehhh make reaper what ever you want it to be" and I want it to be ableton, logic, protools, studio one and reaper all at once. is it practical for my own workflow, no. but I'm not looking for that, I'm looking for a way to emulate other daw workflows and looks on one open source daw. will it be one to one, HELL NO, but will it be close, yea.

what would be the best way to go about doing this without braking everything? also what would be the cleanest way to go about it, please let me know.

all I ask is you don't hate what I'm trying to do and instead see what I'm doing as something that could be really useful in more professional environments.

that's all, once again please keep the comments civil and informative, good day!

help request Reaper on Linux using pipewire-jack has latency

Hi. I'm using pipewire-jack on Linux to use Reaper, so I can listen to other audio at the same time while using Reaper, since otherwise ALSA blocks any other application from outputting to the same device. The issue I'm having is that pipewire-jack is noticably higher latency than ALSA. Any tips?

help request Audio breaks constantly

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I'm new to Reaper and I have this issue. So, I'm using Reaper, the audio sounds good, and then, after a minute or two, it just begins crashing and sounding awful, but the weird thing is that, if a go to the ASIO configuration part and go back without changing anything, it just sounds good again, but I have to do this like every two minutes. Please help. In the video, when I first reproduce the track, it sounds crappy, then I go to the asio configuration, get out, and it's all good.

resolved SOLVED: REAPER crackling when minimized with Voicemeeter Virtual ASIO on Windows 11

Posting this in case anyone else runs into it.

My setup is:

  • Scarlett 2i2 Gen 3
  • Voicemeeter Potato
  • REAPER
  • OBS
  • Windows 11

Signal chain:

Mic → Scarlett → Voicemeeter → REAPER → Voicemeeter → OBS

Voicemeeter uses Focusrite USB ASIO as A1. REAPER uses Voicemeeter AUX Virtual ASIO.

I had two issues.

First, I had noticeable monitoring latency because I was also selecting the Scarlett as a WDM input in Voicemeeter. Removing that and using PATCH ASIO Inputs to Strips fixed the latency.

The remaining issue was crackling. It only happened when REAPER was completely minimized or hidden. If any REAPER window was visible, the audio was clean.

Things I tried that did not fully fix it:

  • Bypassing all FX
  • Matching everything to 48 kHz / 256 samples
  • Changing REAPER audio priority/buffering settings
  • Running REAPER as administrator

The actual fix was disabling Windows power throttling for REAPER.

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:

powercfg /powerthrottling disable /path "C:\Program Files\REAPER (x64)\reaper.exe"

Then restart REAPER.

You can verify it with:

powercfg /powerthrottling list

After doing this, the crackling completely disappeared, including when REAPER is minimized.

Hopefully this saves someone else from endlessly messing with ASIO buffers.

discussion Ragnar Drums Midi Map

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello everyone! Don't mind me, I'm just dropping off some information about where and how to add Midi Note Names for anyone who has Ragnar Drums. I made this to help others because I couldn't find a midi map that would add the individual drum instruments to the piano roll so now we have it!

********Directions***********

  1. Head over to the Reaper Stash website and look for Ragnar_Drums_Reaper_Midi_Map or use this URL

https://stash.reaper.fm/manage_file/52913/Ragnar_Drums_REAPER_MIDI_Map.txt

To open/load that Ragnar Drums midi note-name file in REAPER:

  1. Open REAPER.
  2. Create or open a track.
  3. Insert a MIDI item on the track.
  4. Double-click the MIDI item to open the MIDI Editor / Piano Roll.
  5. In the MIDI Editor, click File at the top.
  6. Go to Note/CC Names.
  7. Choose Load Note/CC Names From File...
  8. Browse to wherever you saved the Ragnar Drums .txt file.
  9. Select it and click Open.

  10. OPTIONAL: Hide unused Note/Keys

In the MIDI Editor:

  1. Press Alt + 2 to switch to Named Notes mode.
  2. Click View at the top.
  3. Go to Show/hide note rows.
  4. Select Hide unused and unnamed note rows.

That will hide the piano keys that aren’t named in your Ragnar map, while keeping the Ragnar drum/cymbal rows available—even if you haven’t placed a MIDI note on them yet.

Don’t choose just “Hide unused note rows.” That can hide Ragnar articulations you haven’t used yet. “Hide unused and unnamed note rows” is the one you want.

Thats it! Hope it helps.

discussion Use your macropad knobs as faders & transport browse (with dynamic steps)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Cheap faders are annoying because, having no motors, they don’t recall position and fail to match what’s on your screen as soon as you change anything. Not an issue here!
If you have a macropad with unused knobs, let’s put them to good use.

How does it work?
Knob turns on generic macropads work as keypresses.
This script adjusts the amount of gain based on how fast a key is repeatedly pressed. The faster you spin, the bigger the steps, the slower, the more controlled the increments. Or you could do it the other way around if you’re weird like that.
The scripts can be easily edited to adjust both the minimum and maximum values to get them just as smooth as you want.

How does one set it up?
Configure the macropad’s counter/clockwise rotation to perform an unusual keypress that won’t be needed (CMD+SHIFT+F13 on countercw for example).
In Reaper, import the extracted luas through the Actions menu.
Give each a shortcut that matches the macropad’s settings.

How to modify the scripts and adjust the values
Find the action in the Actions menu. Click Edit Action…, read the description inside.

In my example gif/video, I set one knob to scrub the timeline, another to adjust volume faders, and I use two buttons to switch tracks, but you can customize it to your liking, the sky’s the limit!

Download (zip file containing 4 .lua)

help request Mouse drag "sensitivity" in envelopes?

Occasionally I run into this problem where, when creating an envelope point, a small mouse drag changes its value by ±0.20 dB. If I don't notice it quickly, these changes accumulate until the entire envelope is affected, and I have to go back in the project to reset the points to 0.

Is there any way to, say, adjust the "sensitivity" of that mouse drag and avoid this problem?

Edit: I almost always add envelope points with Shift+Click, I'd like that no matter which area of the envelope lane I click on, the point is always added with the default value.

help request reaper/pipewire automatically changes connections after render

Hey y'all, I'm on Reaper v7.79 on Void Linux and I use pipewire with libjack-pipwwire for the audio server and every time I export or render something, the digital stereo mics on the laptop get automatically connected to the input channels, displacing what I've already plugged in there. having to manually fix this every time is a hassle and it gets annoying after a point. has anyone faced this and fixed this issue somehow?

help request More sidechaining: How do I send a sidechain trigger from only a certain frequency band?

More sidechaining fun

I was throwing together a quick and dirty lil jungle track mostly to work on my dnb basslines so I wasn't going for fancy drums I was using different breakbeat samples (only used like the first bar of the amen for transitions and a couple others as the main breakbeats).

Once I had my sub bass lined out it was drowning out the kicks so I tried a method I thought would work but it didn't so I think I need a more precise/surgical method.

If I wanted to I could just create a track of ghost kicks to line up with my breakbeat kicks but I feel like that would be extra and take up too much time.

I added ReaEQ to my breakbeat track, I found the kick frequency hanging out around the 60hz range, so I set ReaEQ low shelf to kinda clumsily grab anything below 80hz and set the FX routing to 3/4

I routed 3/4 from that to 3/4 on my sub bass track and used ReaEQ parameter modulation sidechain, it seemed to work as it was being triggered by the different kicks but nothing else, and I was able to have the sub bass EQ dip in response to that trigger.

Two issues tho:

  1. Certain kicks didn't cause as much of an EQ dip in the low end on my sub bass I wanted, on the more pronounced kicks the low end of sub bass would cut pretty nicely but on the less well defined kicks it wouldn't cut as much.

  2. I switched to my kilohearts compressor and tied the same 3/4 to its sidechain but every single hit was triggering it as if it was being triggered by audio signal and not EQ range I selected.

What am I doing wrong in this scenario? I've read up on it, done it before, watched Kenny G vids on it, it's just not doin what I need it to.

What I'd like to accomplish is a clear sidechain signal triggered by a spike in an EQ range. Lets say I'd like a snare to come through and it's inside of a drum loop encompassing a large range of frequences and I only want idk, a hit between 140-180hz to send a trigger, what's the best way to do this?

Also I like ReaEQ but I'm feeling like there might be some other free options out there that might work better, let me know.

Thanks yall

help request Overlapping recording behaviour

Post image
3 Upvotes

In my older recordings (v7.78 and prior), I could record a take on a guitar or bass track and the overlap would split the take and add a new lane. I would be able to switch between the takes without issue. Each tracks' lane settings has "Fixed item lanes" selected, as well.

After installing the 7.79 update, this recording behaviour isn't occurring. I record an overlap take, the new take records only to a new lane without splitting and I can't switch between takes. I haven't changed any settings and I'm unsure if the update could be part of the issue.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so what settings did you tinker with to get the overlap/split behaviour to function properly?

Screenshot of (hopefully) relevant global settings for reference.

help request How to make Reaper autosave actually work?...

It never works, it just never does, it is set to 5 minutes and while I try to save as much as I can, the VST plugins are a crash nightmare, and when I check my last save it is 2 hours ago or so, my normal save is more recent.

Auto-save internal is set to 5 minutes at any time, but it is doing it more like once every hour, sometimes, sometimes not, very unreliable.

I don't know what else to do, other than set an alarm every 5 minutes myself since it just won't do it by itself.
