Hey all, I’m helping my aunt who is wheelchair bound get to her sisters funeral this weekend. It’s all in STL but she doesn’t have access to an accessible van. I’ve gotten some quotes and they are super expensive 😞 She’s on disability and cannot afford much.

Does anyone have any resources or leads? I would be so grateful. Her insurance does cover rides to and from doctor appointments but not for something like this 🙁

I didnt see anyone talking about this, ik its been a couple days since the event but, I wanted to address the... for lack of a better term... slop venders that were rampent.

This was my first time going to the event so I'm wondering. Is it always like this? Do they always let in tiktok shop slop resellers? I loved the performances and stuff like that and was looking forward to seeing the local artists of different backgrounds having their setups... but thats not what was here. I dont think i saw a SINGLE real artist or crafter.

Ik the focus for vendors is more on the food (tho... most had AI signs so that kinda ruined my appetite...) but come on... if there rlly was no artists that applied then why have venders to begin with? Just stick with the food and official merch.

I've gone to a few events and the Tower grove farmers market a lot and have never seen it as bad as Festival of Nations had. Most other events and the farmers market seem to curate their vendors better. Even if they arent always local at least theyre not selling slop thats contributing to the climate crisis?

Is it always like this? Should I simply skip even walking around the vendors next time?

Where do all the hot fun guys hang out at in this city?? I was in Denver recently and there were so many. Hated to come back home lol

According to the YMCA board of directors, the Downtown YMCA has been losing money due to lack of members and will close. Reportedly, the YMCA has been offered a free lease at this location and has refused that offer.

Five Civil Air Patrol officers from the Scott Composite Squadron, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois received valuable updates, training, and opportunities to network with national leaders at the Civil Air Patrol National Conference that convened at the Loews Kansas City Convention Center Hotel, Kansas City, Missouri on Friday, 28 August and Saturday, 29 August 2026.

Civil Air Patrol delivered on every front, enjoying inspiring keynotes, learned in meaningful sessions, applauded major organizational news, and brought the kind of energy that only happens when CAP comes together to share ideas. We are proud of everyone who made the trip, contributed their time, and represented this organization at its best.

The National Conference brought together members from across the country for a full slate of activities. Day one kicked off bright and early with a powerful address by National Commander Major General Regena Aye, touching on several topics at the national level.

Representing the Scott Composite Squadron were Major Jeffery MacHott, Squadron Deputy Commander; Chaplain (Captain) Mike Mroz, Squadron Chaplain; First Lieutenant Kristina Sander, Squadron Testing Officer; Mr. William Sander, Squadron Public Information Officer; and Cadet Captain Makenzie Waldon, Squadron Cadet Commander.

Participants got a chance to meet distinguished guests like Joseph Acaba, Associate Director of Mission and Strategy at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Before he ever set foot in a spacecraft, Acaba was a teacher, a Peace Corps volunteer, a Marine, and a scientist. He spent 306 days in space across three missions to the International Space Station and served as Chief of the Astronaut Office from 2023 to 2025. Today, as Associate Director of Mission and Strategy at NASA's Johnson Space Center, he took the stage as the second keynote speaker at the 2026 CAP National Conference.

His message wasn't really about space. It was about what happens when curiosity, service, and persistence combine over a lifetime, when every role you take on and every detour you make turns out to have prepared you for something bigger. His path has a way of making you look at yourself with fresh eyes.

“Besides all of the updates, I really liked re-connecting with my old friends from Wyoming and the Overseas Group,” Major MacHott said.

Civil Air Patrol's largest and longest mission event in history was underway on site at the convention venue. Since 2020, Operation Pulse Lift has resulted in more than 110,000 units of blood donated through the American Red Cross, with each unit potentially saving three lives.

“My favorite part, besides meeting and networking with my chaplain peers was the session on emotional intelligence,” Chaplain Mroz said.

Day two brought cadets face-to-face with a rotating group of STEM and aviation professionals, leadership speakers, and CAP staff ready to share career insights and help build networks. Sponsor tables offered additional opportunities to explore career paths and connect with industry professionals. Author Sara Vladic was on site for a special book signing of The Dangerous Shore, which explores World War II and the Civil Air Patrol's role in protecting the East Coast from German attacks. The Sphero Robot Races sparked healthy competition, with members navigating robots through obstacle courses and competing for the best time.

“I really enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the senior member (adult) sessions and connect with senior members from around the nation. Additionally, it was very perspective shifting to see the top leaders of our program at work and being able to engage with them. Hearing their command intent and goals in person, and, not an email, humanized them and brought a sense of connection to the organization beyond my little, small world of it,” Cadet Waldon said.

Hey everyone - my partner is celebrating her 40th this weekend and is pretty down about it. She doesn't see the point, and I wanted to do something a little different. She loves puppies and cuddling them up. We have 2 huskies and they are not the biggest cuddlers - much to her disappointment.

Anyone have any suggestions or a pile of puppies for her to visit?

My ex and I recently broke up and we have an apartment together. The lease is up a year from today, however it’s a 2 bedroom and not justifiable for me to be paying on it as I don’t have a roommate; none of the people I know already are looking for a place to live and I have many hinderances with asking a random person to rent the room. I already reached out to my landlord and asked him about the potential about breaking the lease, my ex and I are well aware that it will cost money but we’re both moving back home to no rent and will be able to save up the money we spent on the lease break from our savings. My grandma read the lease and thinks I need a lawyer to try and break it, has anyone done this before or dealt with breaking a lease and if you have do you have a lawyer you recommend? I’d rather pay out of pocket now than spend more money in the long run on rent (and having to keep talking to my ex lol) TIA!

Hi all, I am looking for a career change and a new-ish STL transplant (lived here for a few years). I really want to get into the finance and business industry and looking for places to work that offer training from the ground up or look for hires that don’t necessarily have that background.

Most of my experience (5 years) is in sales, event planning, account management so certainly skills that can translate into a role like that.

Anyone have recommendations, referrals, places to avoid, insight for someone who is looking to get into this field?

Hi! I myself am actually from Chicago but I’m part of an indie idol-inspired group that has one member in the greater STL area. Thanks to the marvels of technology we’re able to record things that are currently being worked on, but we’d like to find another member in her area to make practice (especially dance practice) more fulfilling! Our sound spans a few genres but has been going into a vaguely rockish art pop with electronica if that makes sense 😅

So here’s what we’d need from you:

-be at least 21 years old
-be into things like idols, J-pop, K-pop, anime etc (majority of performances will be at anime themed events and we don’t want you hating your entire time there, lol)
-have a reliable stream of income (to travel + for stage wear among other things. We do try to meet up for filming and practice, plus see above about where performances are done, this also costs money)
-willingness to collaborate and learn!

And a few more things that could signify you fitting in with us super well:

-be multilingual
-willing to pick up on some of the behind the scenes work (leader does a lot and she is drowning)
-an inclination toward composing, songwriting, and/or choreographing would be really great!
-be progressive/queer/a little odd (all of us are)

I know board games are a big thing in STL and I'm sure there's lots of warhammer/dnd players, but I was wondering if there is much a of mini painting community here? Are there any mini painting influencers or events to follow/attend?

25m looking for people to game with a little during the week but mostly on the weekend. I will play most things but Im mostly into zombie survival games (Project Zomboid and No More Room in Hell as of late) open world survival, and roguelikes.

I found out today I can save like $200 on our family’s phone bill if we switch to Spectrum. Sounds pretty compelling.

We probably don’t need the greatest cell phone service in the history of the world, given that both of us spend most of our time at home.

Anyone willing to share their experience? Hoping it was a positive change for most; because I’d love to save the money.
