How is it that just one dose of NAC (800mg) always helps me with obsessive thinking and anxiety?

Whenever I feel panicked (faced some traumatizing stuff in the last couple of months), taking NAC calms me down tremendously. My thoughts are no longer all over the place and I can focus on the things I need to do for the day. I only take NAC for acute situations instead of regularly because it also prevents me from falling asleep most of the time.

General Question Can magnesium electrolytes help with cramps?

I want to try magnesium electrolytes for cramps and recovery since I’ve been dealing with it more lately. I don’t really want to use something loaded with sugar or a ton of salt just for hydration. I’ve been reading that magnesium can help with muscle function and recovery so it seems worth trying. I was thinking of using Magna since it’s magnesium based. If anyone tried it I’m interested to know if it helped

General Question Unexpected pain reduction in my knees

Hi folks.

I started taking a lot of supplements to help me manage my ssri withdrawal (paroxetine), since I am reducing my dose and plan to eventually stop taking them.

After a month my withdrawal symptoms are getting better but I've had an unexpected additional effect.

CONTEXT

I've had quadriceps tendinitis for more than 6 months now and it's gotten progressively worse, to the point that I could not perform a simple squat. Mind you I am 30, and been training consistently for 4 years now and never had any problems with my knees. This pain started in a very messy and stressful moment of my life. I've also had treatments done at my physiotherapy studio, tried rest, tried strengthening my knees, but nothing worked.

And now it's almost 70% gone. I can easily do multiple deep squats now, not completely pain free, but it's SUCH a big improvement!

I'd like to know your opinion on which of my supplements helped me with this inflammation.

Here's my list:

Longlife EPA DHA Gold - breakfast and dinner

Folic acid 400 (prescribed for high homocysteine) - breakfast

Longlife Vitamin k-2 gold - dinner

Vitamin D3 - breakfast

General probiotics for gut health - breakfast and dinner

Longlife Magnesium bisglycinate - 2 tablets at dinner

General Question Ever taken a legal supplement that was unexpectedly psychoactive?

for me it was damiana. I get this great mellow warm feeling behind the eyes and my eyes get lazy if that makes sense. it gives a nice positive mood boost that feels very comfy along with a mild anxiety reduction for me it has a slight head change. I have yet to take higher doses or smoke it tho which I have heard is possible so maybe it can get pretty psychoactive for some people

Didn't expect magnesium to make this much of a difference to my sleep.

Been taking this for a while and my sleep schedule feels way more regular now. The biggest thing though is that I feel less "buzzing" or mentally switched on when I'm trying to sleep. I don't know 😂 Anyone else taking magnesium glycinate? What did you notice after using it for a while?

Has boron helped your sex drive/ libido?

I (44m) started taking boron an out a month about 3mg morning and 3 evening. I took it for a couple weeks and then stopped for a week cause that’s what I read to do. I noticed after about a week I started to get turned on all the time. I’d get erections when I’m driving like I haven’t for a long time. I still get erections at night but seems to be more pleasurable erections now with the boron. I’m not complaining at all cause I love the sensation but I’m trying to narrow if it’s boron. I feel it is cause after the first week I started feeling different then I took a break and things settled. I’m back on it now and it’s happening again. Can I continue to take 6mg per day? Or will it have negative effects long term?

General Question NAC vs GLY-NAC

Can someone explain to me what the difference here is? I initially started taking Gly-NAC to regulate liver enzymes. I then came to find out that NAC also can calm thoughts. I need this. The GLY-NAC seems to do absolutely nothing for me mentally. I need to find out if NAC will settle down the things that roll around my head nonstop.

Recommendations A good Black Maca brand recommendations!

Hi all I am looking for a good quality brand of black maca, I have used it before, to increase test and libido but it did absolutely nothing for me, I was using a good brand, so I thought, but, would like to give it another go!

57 yo (m), in good health, a good diet, i don't take meds, or smoke, Testosterone is measured as normal, any recoes would be gratefully received.

I live in France, so maybe certain brands may not be available in Europe, unless they are on Iherb👍🏻.

Thanks all.

Supplements for Sleep/Vivid dreams

Good day y'all, what are some of the supplements that you take for sleep, I currently take ZMA (Magnesium citrate, around 200mg elemental), Magnesium L-Threonate after Lunch, and Ashwagandha after dinner.

I've ordered Kava for relaxation before sleep, as that seems to be an issue, regardless of fixing sleep hygiene (dark and cold room, no screens an hour before sleep, and sunlight upon waking). I would like to add Valerian Root also, but I did not have much like with L-Theanine, so I stick to taking 200mg in the morning with coffee. Glycine and Apigenin are also interesting to look into.

I would like to avoid melatonin, as I hear not so great things about it, however, it might be the answer for a delayed sleep-wake phase disorder. I also tend to not dream much at night, and I would like something that can promote it also.

Experience Nothing works for sleep!

Despite that i work most of the day from 8am to 10pm, when i go back home i can't sleep, until 4 or 5 am.

Tried some supplements,

Magnesium glycinate, herbal teas and several supplements formulas which have valerian, passion flower, lemon balm, l theanine and didn't do anything.

Then after some research here decided to try low dose melatonin, 500mcg, then 1 and 2 mgs without noticing anything positive or negative.

Hello all, I posted here a couple days ago and since then have added a couple supplements for what I believe is a well-rounded stack. Second photo is my multivitamin’s nutrition chart.

A couple of notes:

Not pictured is creatine monohydrate. I’ve read 1g per 10kg of body weight is an ideal amount of creatine to take per day, so seeing how I weigh ~85kg (187lbs give or take) I try to take 8-10 grams of creatine daily.

I only take the beet root on days I work out. But I train 5 days a week with a low-active rest day and an actual rest day. I need to dial in my split more but so far I’ve cut my body fat percentage from 38-40% (at 276lbs) down to 15-19% according to calipers, Navy method, and my scale.

Macros look like 1750-2000 calories a day, which is a small cut-to-maintenance amount for me (38M, 186lbs 6’0). That’s 170g of protein, 190g carbs, 54g fats daily. Sleep schedule is kind of a wreck because of work but I try to get a minimum of 6 to 7 hours of sleep a day.

This year has been all about really dialing in healthwise. It’s been a journey but as I’ve gotten used to saying, “it’s not finished, I’m just further along.” 😬

Magnesium Causing Loss of Effectiveness of Vyvanse?

I started taking the Nootropics Micromag and I have noticed it seems as if my Vyvanse isnt as effective as it usually is. I also notice I am SOO tired, like exhausted tired. I have a desk job, so it's not like I am physically exhausting myself. I don't feel anything has changed in my life, other than starting these after finishing my bottle of Qunol Mag Glycinate.

I know the Micromag is supposed to be a mix of different forms of Mag, so could this be the culprit? I feel I am a bit more irritable, but I am unsure if it has anything to do with that.

Glutathione for slow comt

As the title suggests, I have a slow COMT gene mutation and want to try different supplements to manage it. So far, creatine has helped the most. I recently tried astaxanthin, but it caused terrible anxiety and dissociation.

Now, I am considering trying glutathione, but the reports online are contradictory. For some people with slow COMT, it works very well, while for others, it triggers severe anxiety.

Which category do you fall into, and what has helped you?

Recommendations Creatine for women

Hi
I'm hoping to understand if creatine will be helpful for me and if so, what brands are good. There's so much stuff out there it's quite mind numbing.

A bit about me, I'm 35 years old (163cm/54kg) but in the last 1 year seemed to have gained quite a bit of weight around my stomach and face looks quite puffy. I know this can be attributed to many things but it's most likely the fact that I have an office job and barely move from my desk. In the last 2 months I've been doing strength training with a PT and strength has improved a fair bit, I'm not necessarily hoping to see results straight away but I don't get why my stomach has gone bigger than other parts of my body. Perhaps my legs and arms and maybe this is just what happens to women's body. I know I'm not fat and going from a size 4 to 8 really isn't a big deal but I'm just so surprised how I can jump 2 sizes up. My stomach seems to stick out more than anywhere else in my body. Overall my diet is okay, I don't eat junk food or oily food - good balance of different things like meat, fish, veg etc. but I'm not on a strict diet or anything. Just eat normally

Anyway I've read that creatine and a few other things can help with strength training and other benefits. If it can help with the above then that's an added bonus.

Based on the above is this something I should explore? If so what brands do you recommend?
