Could I have TaskRabbit assist with sanding and staining some outdoor IKEA patio furniture that has been worn down by weather?

GENERAL Do cancellations affect metrics?

This is really about my 2nd month tasking. I’m getting a decent amount of cancellations from customers that need someone with a vehicle and I don’t have one (well I don’t advertise that). Then there are the ones that accidentally schedule for the wrong day or choose a time when my availability clearly shows I’m not available or I’m on another task.

Edit: Nevermind, I see that it absolutely does. I went from 12th in search position to 58th 🤦‍♀️

CLIENT Is it possible to use TaskRabbit for this niche task?

Hi! I’m looking for someone to help me ship some belongings from my storage unit in Elizabeth, NJ, to Omaha via UPS. It should be no more than two medium-sized boxes.

I’m currently out of state and unfortunately can’t make the trip myself. I would need someone to access the storage unit, pack the items, purchase any necessary boxes and packing supplies, and ship everything to me. I’m will reimburse all shipping and packing expenses, and I can mail you the key to the storage unit.

could i hire someone for this in taskrabbit? I had some family circumstances that made it difficult for me to think abt logistics earlier.

I’d really appreciate the help!

CLIENT taskrabbit won’t let me review a tasker who repeatedly rescheduled and canceled (which is exactly when a review matters)

i recently booked a tasker for a general mounting job. i’m intentionally not naming him or sharing any personal information because my larger concern is with taskrabbit’s review system, not with sending people after one specific person.

the appointment was originally scheduled for 2:30. the tasker confirmed beforehand, and i asked him to let me know when he was on his way.

at 2:35, after i reached out for an eta, he told me that his earlier job had gone over and asked whether we could meet at 4:15 or move everything to the next day. i agreed to 4:30 and rearranged my afternoon around that. he then suggested 5 instead. i explained that i already had something at 5:15 and asked if we could please keep the 4:30 time we had just agreed on. he said that was fine.

when 4:30 came, i again had to send multiple messages asking for an eta and whether we were still meeting. he eventually told me that he had parked nearby 20 minutes after. the task was still not completed, and we arranged another time for the following morning.

that morning, he messaged to say that he couldn’t make it because he needed to give his girlfriend a ride to work and asked to reschedule yet again. at that point, i declined and requested a refund. he canceled the task from his end so that i wouldn’t be charged.

to be clear, i’m not disputing the billing. i wasn’t charged, and that part worked as it should. my issue is that i moved multiple work meetings and personal plans to accommodate a schedule that kept changing. i spent a considerable amount of time waiting, checking in, and rearranging my day, only for the task to ultimately be canceled.

naturally, i tried to leave a review explaining what happened. taskrabbit told me that reviews can only be submitted for completed and invoiced tasks. because the tasker canceled, there is no public review option.

i contacted support because this seems like exactly the kind of experience that should be visible to future customers. the support agent offered to document the complaint internally and told me that disciplinary action might be taken if enough people submit similar complaints. when i asked whether they could guarantee either a public review or some action on the account, they explicitly said no.

that’s the part i find inherently flawed.

most people are not going to spend additional time navigating a support chatbot, waiting for a person, explaining the entire situation, and asking for an internal complaint to be filed. they’re going to get annoyed, accept the refund, and move on. their experience then disappears completely from the information available to the next customer.

reliability is part of the service being offered. i’m not trying to review the quality of mounting work that never happened. i’m trying to review whether the person arrived when agreed, communicated responsibly, and followed through on the booking. those things matter when someone is deciding whom to hire.

the current system also creates a pretty obvious blind spot: whether intentional or not, canceling a task prevents the customer from leaving a negative review about the events leading up to that cancellation. completed tasks contribute to the tasker’s public reputation, while some of the worst experiences may leave no visible record at all.

i don’t necessarily think canceled tasks should be treated identically to completed ones. taskrabbit could label them separately, verify through its own records who initiated the cancellation, or show a basic reliability metric with reschedules and tasker-initiated cancellations. there are plenty of ways to give future customers useful information without letting people review work that was never performed.

just posting because i don’t want someone else to move meetings, rearrange personal plans, and spend hours waiting only to discover that none of it can be reflected on the tasker’s profile.

has anyone else dealt with repeated rescheduling or a tasker-initiated cancellation and then found that they couldn’t leave a review? is there any meaningful way to make that experience visible to other customers, or does it simply disappear once the task is canceled?

The home page of my Tasker app changed yesterday, and this morning I can’t find the same day task toggle. Did they get rid of it?

TASKER Hey Bay Area Taskers— back after grad school… What’s up?

My last post somehow got flagged by mods. It was long winded—so let’s try again…

Has the TR market crashed? Do I need to lowball myself to regain momentum?

I was getting my MS and publishing over the last 2 1/2 years and hardly worked the platform at all. Now I am back and had just toggled on with the rates I had before. According to the Algo, they’re all too low. However, I suspect I’m not getting many bites because my rates may be too high. Any thoughts?

Rates are mostly between 50-/60, huge range of categories and I worked a lot doing gardening and furniture assembly, with a couple of very specialized ones like tiling (yes, I know tiling) a bit higher. I have ~780 tasks & 5 stars.

I also did a bunch of more white collar things & personal assisting.

My visibility doesn’t seem terrible— 15th.

My map is currently drawn around Oakland, Berkeley I forgot how far north south and east. Also around SF financial districts. I drive in the East Bay, but SF is drawn around anywhere I can get easily on BART, because I don’t want to deal with parking in SF.

Thoughts? Strategies? Thanks!

APP Uploading pictures

Is anyone else having issues uploading pictures of past jobs completed in the app? I’m on iPhone 7 Pro Max and up until the last TaskRabbit app update I could upload pictures fine in my profile showing completed projects. Ever since I updated the app about a week or so ago picture uploads won’t work. Now, it just errors out each time.

I have contacted support with no solution. I have logged out, deleted app, redownloaded the app, logged back in, restarted phone, etc.

I have done everything that I can think of but nothing seems to work. Keep getting this error whether on cellular connection or on WiFi.

GENERAL Don't get furniture from unknown websites

The client saved on living room furniture to cover the TR bill. He bought this (pic below) instead of a Bestå. Assembly took 5.5 hours total: 3.5 hours on day one, then 2 more the next day to finish and mount the TV. The glass panel lacks a frame and is held by just 2 screws (top and bottom), risking breakage if closed too hard. Wall anchoring uses two 5cm brackets (2 anchors each), but the 1.5cm-wide holder rests on the bracket’s edge, making it seem like only one anchor supports it. Leveling was tricky due to minimal adjustment space and short brackets. The shelves support only 5kg, and the long sections (with glass) rely on just 2 anchors. It looks good in the photo. Cost: 500€.

RED= not existing hinges (there were pistons but they are too weak to hold the door), Blue= the only 3 wall mounts showing in the pic. Yellow= potoshopped out the white screws holding the glass panel

CLIENT I need some perspective…

Hi, everyone. May I get a reality check? I’ve only used TaskRabbit a handful of times—one terrific Tasker, one who did sloppy work at a premium price, and now for my third task, I’ve had four cancellations in a row from four different people. One was a no-show, one was running so late (two hours) she had to cancel, one decided she didn’t like the task and cancelled, one cancelled with no reason given. It’s getting frustrating, but is this just how it goes and is to be expected, so you should expect to keep trying to get someone over a couple of weeks? Is it more of an issue if the task small and short?

TASKER Why do people book you for your earliest availability and then ask “can you do it sooner?”

No. Well, probably not. I have my availability set because that’s when I’m available. Why would I have another spot open if I didn’t put it on my availability?

TASKER Starting a Handyman Business

What’s up everyone. Just wondering if you all have some tips to using taskrabbit as a business. I just incorporated an LLC, got general liability insurance, business cards, business uniforms. So basically everything needed to get started. I’m in North Carolina and want to turn the business into a full time thing. Just trying to figure out the best things I can do with the app to get the most jobs. I am doing it part time right now as I’m a full time apartment maintenance tech. Any input would be helpful.

TASKER First and Last time doing Ikea assembly

Got my first job assembling Ikea furniture. And my last.

Honestly I didn't do my homework and it was my first Task in awhile (just moved across country) so I was more hyped finally getting a Task and rushed to accept.

Two RADMANSO 6-drawer dressers for a grand total of $75 whole dollars (CAD) in my pocket for 4 hours of work.

Is this typical?

TASKER How to get the ball rolling?

Hello! I recently signed up to be a Tasker for some income while I'm between jobs. I have been available all week but have yet to receive any invites. What's the best way to start getting jobs? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Credit to Taskrabbit for doing right by us. Watch out for scam takers. Don’t be afraid to send a tasker home if they cause a safety liability in your home.

GENERAL No confirmation from assigned Helper?

Hi, very first time using Taskrabbit. First of all, I realize now there are actually two platforms. One is Taskrabbit Delivery which they just acquired from Dolly.com. I requested a flatrate move of a few pieces of furniture from one place to another in town. Immediatey they assigned me a "Helper." But this helper has not contacted me 24 hours later and the app/website does not allow me to contact him (makes sense). The best I can gather from their customer servce chat (which BTW was quite prompt) is that the assigned helper has not yet "accepted" the assignment. If I am going to block off half a day to get this done I want to confirm everything ahead of time so the Helper knows what to expect. Again I am new to this and any insight into this process is much appreciated.

GENERAL You think Taskrabbit fees are bad? You should see what Wayfair charges for assembly.

I just got signed on for Wayfair Servicepro atter two years of waiting, and let me tell you, if you think Taskrabbit adding their % fee is bad, you would loathe wayfair’s pricing. I did my first two jobs today and I asked one of the clients how much she paid.

For an outdoor furniture setup, she paid $120. I received a grand total of $51. I got that thing knocked out in an hour, but oh boy😂 that ain’t even 45%. I probably would’ve charged $70 on a direct call.

So yeah, if you’re a client, forget these apps and just start getting in touch with local handymen or your most recent Tasker. These apps are super greedy.

APP Did TR change their search algorithm?

I mostly do wall mounting in a major metro and my recommended search position is currently 56th (on the fourth page of results). No client is scrolling that far 😅. I’m normally in the top 5 or 10, and understand reasonable fluctuations, but this seems unusual.

I also recently had a client bark at me for expensing wood shelving when they wanted wire shelving (they were traveling and asleep so I couldn’t reach them for approval) so I’m wondering if they maybe complained to customer support and hurt my account standing somehow.

Any ideas??

TASKER Higher earnings

Hi everyone !

I’ve had taskr app in my back pocket for a few years now. Used it a bit in college when my parents didn’t allow me to get a job.

Now, I’m back at it to make up some hours since my main job cut my hrs a bit.

How can i optimize my bookings and earning ? For example, i have a brand ambassador task today for 2.5 hrs paying $67 total. How do i get to the point where i can fill my weeks with tasks and have an $100 minimum for tasks .

Also, i do not offer handy tasks. I am more vending at events and flea markets for companies or personal assistant/ small admin work.
