What is /r/TheSilphRoad?

The Silph Road is primarily focused on discoveries and analysis related to Pokemon GO, as well as constructing an in-person network of Pokemon GO enthusiasts. General discussion topics (Jokes, stories, a photo of a recent catch) would likely be better suited for another subreddit, such as a general subreddit like /r/PokemonGO, or /r/Pokemon, or a subreddit with a more specific focus, like /r/PokemonGoSnap, /r/PokemonBuddy, /r/ShinyPokemon, /r/PoGoRaids, /r/TheSilphArena, /r/PokemonGOTrades, /r/PokemonGOFriends, or /r/NianticWayfarer.

Silph Road Content Policy

The Silph Road is heavily moderated to promote civility/courtesy, and high-quality content and discussion. You can read our full policies in the sidebar, but don't be surprised if a comment is removed for being rude, cynical, or off-topic. We strive to foster civil discussion about the game. We are first and foremost a network of real people, and this network is being built by volunteers! If you simply want to complain or bring something to Niantic's attention, your post would be better suited elsewhere.

Research

The community culture here also attracts the more analytically-minded element of Pokemon GO. Consequently, the Silph Research group was formed to align this brainpower and leverage the massive Silph datasets that the community can gather. We post our findings in infographics, videos, and walls of text on Reddit. Check out the top bar for links to the current pools.

Final words

Finally, welcome once more! We're glad to have you join us on the Road :)

Discussion (PvP) We Need Access to Universal Mega Energy

Post image

Mega Shards from ZA.

With the new PvP changes, we REALLY need a way to get more Mega Energy without the game becoming more P2W.

Add them to routes, research or as a chance to drop from Mega Raids. Or maybe do more with the buddy item finding feature. I love seeing things being pulled from the original games!

Discussion Raid catch rate needs to be fixed

In the 10 years I’ve been playing Pokémon go I can count on two hands the number of legendary pokemonnive fails to catch in raids. Recently it’s about every other I am unable to catch. This is not ok. Me using a raid pass expecting it not to break out on first sale for every ball with golden razz excellent curveballs and not be able to catch anything doesn’t make me feel like spending more, it makes me not want to open the app again haha.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I feel like it started since Solgaleo came back to raids

Bug How do i prevent this bug?

This glitch always happens consistently when doing raids. I was trying to solo falinks and this was preventing me from doing so. Luckily i ended up doing it with 10 seconds left but it took 5 attempts because of this glitch.

Idea/Suggestion Global Remote Raid Queue

There should be a global queue system where Trainers can join the same Remote Raid with other players from around the world.

The concept would be simple: a Trainer chooses the Pokémon they want to raid, joins the queue, and is matched with 20 random Trainers who are looking to raid the same Pokémon. The game would then select a random Gym somewhere in the world where that raid is currently active.

The Raid Lobby would only start once 20 Trainers have joined, ensuring that there are always enough players to participate.

This system would solve several problems that Remote Raiders currently face:

-No more last-second leavers causing Trainers to waste Remote Raid Passes.

-No more joining raids with too few players to successfully defeat the Raid Boss.

-Better coordination when a certain number of Trainers — or Trainers with the necessary Mega Evolutions — are required to break through difficult Raid mechanics.

-No need to constantly rely on random friend invites, where there is often no way to communicate or coordinate when everyone should start the raid.

-A much faster and more reliable experience for Trainers who don’t have access to large local or online communities.

One of the main reasons I hesitate to buy more Remote Raid Passes is the amount of time wasted trying to organize raids, as well as the possibility of losing a pass when a raid fails because there weren’t enough Trainers.

A global queue would solve both of these problems.
It would also create a win-win situation for everyone:

Trainers would get a faster, safer and more reliable way to participate in Remote Raids, while Scopely would likely sell more Remote Raid Passes because players would have much more confidence that their passes would actually result in a successful raid. This could make Remote Raiding significantly more enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

Question For those who have looked at the data and tried Future Sight++++, do we still need Psystrike on our Mega Mewtwo Y?

Obviously I have tried it out myself too and it seems obscenely strong, but I would also like to hear the opinions of others rather than just relying on my own small data set.

I am curious whether we should now consider removing Psystrike from Mewtwo Y, and instead having a move set of Psycho Cut, Future Sight++++, Shadow Ball and Ice Beam/Thunderbolt.

What are your thoughts? Is there still a usecase for Psystrike?

Edit: I am mostly interested in regards to using MMY to solo raids. I rarely use mega pokemon for gym battles, rocket battles or raiding in a group, and do not use Mewtwo in the Master League, so I am not worried about those game modes.

Discussion Heritage Open Days

For anyone planning to go to one of The National Trust sites involved in the Go collab The UK has various open doors days throughout September as a celebration of history and culture.

They generally involve free tours, walks, guides and other events for free.

The tickets are often first come first served on the day.

There is a link here for English National Trust and I'll add a few more in a post below.

I haven't checked every event for each location to see what is on and when.

Discussion If you hadn't realized by now, Armored Mewtwo Re-Release should be the real wake up call to the fact that nothing in this game can be trusted to be "rare", and therefore you should never give in to FOMO if some Pokemon is available for a short time

3.1k Upvotes

EDIT: Apparently this post came off as salty, which was not my intention. I don't own an Armored Mewtwo as I don't care about collecting things that don't have a function in battles, so I doubt I'll even grab one now. This post was meant to be an observation of what is happening and what kind of mindset to avoid to maximize enjoyment

I pointed this thing out about rarity when Scopely hosted that almost-every-costumed Pikachu wild spawn event.

People told me I was crazy because not every single Pikachu got re-released, and the 5-year balloon Pikachu would never come back because it wouldn't make any sense. And on the very next day, the 5-year balloon Pikachu was spawning everywhere.

Then, people told me that Armored Mewtwo would be rare forever, because TPC controls when it can be released in PoGo, and by some logic that can only happen if there is a new movie released with Armored Mewtwo in it. Bold and professional statements from people who didn't know anything and look like clowns now.

The bottom line is: Never give in to FOMO. You don't need anything to do anything in this game. If you enjoy collecting rare things, realize that the rarity has an expiration date. We simply don't know when that date is.

Discussion The basic Great/Ultra/Master leagues only occur 3x each next season. That does not seem like enough time to experience the updated meta

The basic version of the leagues only occur 3x each, while Mega versions are around 6x. With the new move changes, it takes time for players to experiment with updated Pokemon and find good team synergies. At the beginning of the season many people cling to old Pokemon who have been nerfed, or try new Pokemon that seem to be buffed but just not enough to be meta. You see a lot Pokemon used at the beginning of the season that slowly disappear by the end, and vice versa.

Not to mention the meta is different at different ELO tiers, it takes time to reach your highest ELO and learn the updated strategies for it. Personally, each season I reach 2800 ELO around mid-season and then have 3-4 weeks to really play and learn in my preferred league. This season, it seems like I will only be able to play that league at that ELO for one week near the end of the season if I'm lucky.

I enjoy Mega Leagues but they have always been a novelty, but now they seem to becoming the norm to the detriment of the other leagues. And since Megas benefit from having more Mega levels, which can only be earned through more raids, it feels like now all the leagues have an element of P2W that previously only Master League had. Which means if I want become competitive in Mega Leagues I now need to build lots of new Mega mons through tons of new raids.

Discussion I have been to all 27 National Trust sites, AMA

Post image
890 Upvotes

I tried to go to all 27 National Trust sites that are hosting featured raids over the past month (August), and I am glad to say that I have finished this task today at Tredegar House! (surprisingly this is one of the ones that is closer to me)

I can’t say that all of the visits are as long as they would like it to be, as I had to keep to schedule, but some of these I would definitely go back to visit some of these sites without the FOMO of Pokemon GO

AMA :)
