Europe I had my abortion because my boyfriend isn't ready to be a father

I love my boyfriend deeply and I understand his feelings too but I feel so conflicted. I miss my child, I wanted my child to be born. I put his feelings over my own desire and while I do know that it was the right decision (because we are young because we still have time to create a loving family because right now having a baby would be extremely hard etc) I feel like we would get this and we would be able to care for that child in the best way possible and I would be ready to be a mother even if he couldn't be a father. Am I wrong for feeling like I love my unborn aborted baby more than I love my boyfriend?

Europe How do I keep a possible pregnancy private from my mum until I can get an abortion?

I’m 20F and I’m almost certain that I’m pregnant. My partner and I have already talked about it, and we both agree that we are not keeping the baby.
The problem is that my mum doesn’t know.
She wants me to do some hormonal blood tests, but apparently they have to be done while I’m on my period. She also wants to come with me when I get them done, and she has made it very clear that she will come whether I want her to or not.
The awkward part is that if my period doesn’t come, she is obviously going to notice. I’m not sure what excuse I could realistically give her without making things suspicious.
I’m also scared of what would happen if she found out that I was pregnant before I was able to arrange the abortion. She is Christian and I know she would strongly oppose abortion and try very hard to convince me to keep the baby.
There’s also some complicated family history around pregnancy. My mum previously lost a baby because of health problems, although my brother and I were both subsequently born healthy. I know this experience affected her deeply, which makes me think her reaction to my pregnancy would be especially emotional.
I’m not asking whether I should keep the baby. That decision has already been made by me and my partner. I’m asking how to handle the practical side of keeping this private until I can deal with it myself.
I’m 20, but my mum is very involved in my life and I’m worried that simply saying “I don’t want you to come” a will immediately raise questions.
I’d really appreciate practical advice.

USA Did you tell your mom?

I’m 23, I just had my first abortion last week, and it feels like not being able to tell my mom is the biggest piece missing in finding closure.

My mom has always been liberal and “pro-choice,” but she had me at 19, and I knew she quietly held the belief that it was wrong to get an elective abortion. Last year, I stopped taking my hormonal birth control because I didn’t like the side effects. I told my mom I was scared of getting an IUD, and she texted me:

“Just know if you do get pregnant, that blood is on your hands because you were scared of putting yourself through something that might hurt you. With no regard for it, it might hurt an innocent fetus.”

“It’s not just a personal choice when you are bringing new humans into the mix. It affects them too, having to be aborted. Don’t you think?”

The second I got my positive pregnancy test, these texts flashed in my head, and my heart broke knowing I wouldn’t be able to tell her what I was going through.

We’re not even that close, but every day I get the urge to tell her about what this experience has been like for me. Finding out I was pregnant for the first time, going through these hormonal changes, going through this post-abortion grief. Maybe it’s just something I have to learn to live with, and there would be no closure in telling her, at least not for a couple years. Or maybe I need to just let her in and let her process it. I never know how she might react, and it’s not like I rely on her for anything. I’m an adult. But also, I’ve been with my partner for 3 years, and he is the love of my life. I don’t want to damage my mom’s perception of him.

Just looking for any stories about what it was like telling your mom, particularly those with a rocky relationship with their mom or ones who knew their mom might not take it well.

Europe I am almost 37 and having an abortion - anyone else relate?

My partner and I have been together for four years. He is an incredible partner, and I feel deeply loved and safe with him. However, our circumstances are complicated: he has three teenage children, and I moved to his country to make our relationship work.

I felt ready to have a baby, but this pregnancy happened sooner than we expected. Because of my age, we assumed it might take longer. During the first few weeks, I experienced excruciating pain and began preparing myself emotionally for a miscarriage. That didn’t happen, and we’ve since been told that the pregnancy is progressing normally.

What has confused and frightened me most is my emotional response. I’ve felt repulsed by the changes happening to my body, and my breasts have already become extremely painful at six to seven weeks. More broadly, I’ve experienced very strong negative feelings towards the pregnancy itself. This is difficult to understand because I do want to become a mother, and I have wanted to experience pregnancy.

After two therapy sessions and two and a half weeks of intense consideration, my partner and I have decided to end the pregnancy. There are many factors behind our decision, including my career, our finances, our stability and whether this is genuinely the right time for us.

I’m also struggling to understand how much I’m factoring everyone else into this decision. His children have previously expressed negative feelings about us having a baby. Their reaction is understandable, but I can’t tell how much it has contributed to my own feelings. I don’t want to bring my first child into a turbulent or unwelcoming situation, but I also don’t want to resent his children—or my partner—for the fact that I’m taking their feelings and needs into consideration.

Even though I believe this may be the most responsible decision for our current circumstances, I feel incredibly emotional and conflicted. Wanting motherhood in the future while choosing not to continue this particular pregnancy is a painful and confusing place to be. I’m also conscious that I will be 37 in six weeks, which makes the decision feel even more complicated and frightening.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced similar feelings or made a similar decision at around my age.

Canada Surprise pregnancy at 41, so torn on what to do

I just found out im pregnant. This would be our third, and my husband and I went through infertility treatments to get our first two. We haven't used protection in years, and that combined with my belief i was in perimenopause had us both extremely confident this would never happen.

I love love love being a mom. It's hands down the best thing in my life, but my kids are 12 and 9 and the idea of starting over sounds awful. It would change the entire dynamic of our little gang of four. It would change both my kids' lives, and i already have a very demanding job that leaves me with a ton of guilt over how my time is split. The idea of someone else taking more of me away from them is so upsetting to me.

My husband was also just laid off a week ago and while he'll have severance for the next year, I know he was hoping to take some time, maybe some courses, and pursue something new. He's in shock but says he's genuinely supportive of either choice.

I believe so wholeheartedly that every woman should have the right to choose, but now that it's me it somehow feels like none of these reasons are "good enough "? Does that sound crazy? I feel so guilty for even considering it when I spent so long praying for the kids I have.

USA 6 weeks and thinking about abortion

I am 6 weeks pregnant and married. I already have one child whom is 5. I got pregnant with him when I was 17 and I am 23 now. My husband is the father of both of my son and the unborn baby but I planned on divorcing him and moving states. He’s very childish like and over the years I’ve fallen out of love with him. I took a plan b and still became pregnant. I know I can’t keep the baby if I move because it will make things harder for me and furthermore, I don’t want to be trapped with him any longer. He’s very narcissistic and just a shitty spouse in general. I don’t believe in abortion and I’ve never had one but I am considering the pill and save myself the stress. I’ve been crying a lot about this but I know it’s the best option.

Australia and New Zealand Very faint positive test 9 weeks post surgical abortion + Mirena insertion, has this happened to anyone else

I had a surgical termination on the 25th of June, I also had my Mirena iud inserted while they used ultrasound technology while I was asleep during the process.. I didn’t have sex until 9 days after the procedure when my bleeding had stopped. I have had on and off spotting here and there, not my actual period yet. I can still feel the Mirena strings too, I took a pregnancy test at 6 weeks post abortion and it had a faint positive test, took another one today now at nearly 10 weeks post abortion and it came back as faint positive as well except you can only see this one in direct sunlight (a photo can’t pick it up) I’m not sure if this is a new pregnancy or just the HCG still dropping since I did take one at 6 weeks which was positive. Has this happened with anyone else? I’m reading online from doctors stating the HCG should leave your system at 8 weeks… so I’m scared that I am pregnant which is crazy to understand seeing as I have a Mirena which seems to be in the correct position

Canada 5 weeks pregnant debating a abortion

Hi everyone. I am looking for some advice and to share my story. I recently turned 30 and since I’ve been married for a little over a year my husband and myself thought we would start trying for children. Prior to trying we foolishly didn’t really have any serious conversations about it, I guess we thought it would be a process that would take some time. We shockingly got pregnant on our first try and our reaction wasn’t the best to say the least. I suffer with depression and anxiety and find myself not being able to find any positives in this situation, everyday I struggle to get out of bed and have panic attacks which has been scaring my husband. My husband also doesn’t feel the most ready, which I blame myself partially for. I am about 5 weeks along and debating a medical abortion. I have a consult booked Wednesday and really think I am going to go through with it as I just don’t feel like it’s the right time and my husband agrees. I guess I just struggle with the fact of terminating a wanted pregnancy, as I really do want to be a mom but the timing and the fact that my mental health is so poor makes me nervous to continue the pregnancy. I guess I am just looking for peoples experiences and whether they had gone on to have healthy pregnancies afterwards or just share there experiences or help me through it. I have been struggling so hard with the “what ifs” lately which is largely due to my anxiety and just feel so remorseful about my actions.

USA How long does the bleeding last??

I had taken the 1st pill on 7/24 and then the 4 pills on 7/25. 45 mins after taking them i started cramping and then an hour came around and i started bleeding. Now it’s 8/31 and ive been bleeding ever since. It’s light bleeding to normal bleeding but how long am i supposed to be bleeding for? i’m going on 5 weeks.

I also had just taken a pregnancy test because i was told to take it on a certain date which is 8/28, to make sure im not pregnant anymore. The test still says positive. But all of my pregnancy symptoms have disappeared. i’m not nauseous anymore nor do i have sore breasts. I feel back to normal. What does this mean?

USA Help with in clinic abortion

I made an appointment online for Friday at 12:30PM to have an in clinic abortion with Planned Parenthood. Will I for sure get the procedure done or should I call and maybe go a day ahead for the ultrasound? I saw a post that someone did not get theirs done the same day.

USA Heavy bleeding + fainting several days after medication abortion Looking for experiences/advice

Upvotes

My friend had a medication abortion using mifepristone + misoprostol through Aid Access. She completed the full misoprostol regimen and also took an additional dose after speaking with the M+A Hotline. She had the expected heavy bleeding, clots/tissue and cramping afterward, and then things seemed to calm down significantly.

A few days later (5 days), she suddenly started bleeding heavily again. At the heaviest point she went through roughly 2 maxi pads in about 1 hour. She briefly passed out and lost consciousness for a second. And regained consciousness, the bleeding went down right after that fainting spell.

The bleeding has now gone down tremendously and she’s currently only spotting. Still passing blood clots into the toilet though. She isn’t having significant cramping or pain. However, she still gets very lightheaded and feels like she may faint when she stands up.

One important factor she told me is that she’s barely eaten or drank anything for about 4 days because she’s had no appetite and has been stressed/sick through this whole process, so dehydration/not eating could obviously be contributing. But we’re also worried about blood loss/anemia because of how much she bled.

She is in Texas and is extremely scared about going to the ER because of the abortion laws, and she also doesn’t have money/insurance to easily get checked out. I know Reddit can’t diagnose her and that fainting can warrant medical evaluation. So we’re mainly wondering:
Has anyone had their bleeding get significantly heavier again several days later after it had already slowed down? Did anyone experience dizziness/near-fainting afterward? If so, did you end up being dehydrated/anemic or needing treatment?
We have also been in contact with the M+A Hotline and will contact them again. She has eaten finally and drank about a gallon of water and she does feel a bit better. But were Just hoping to hear some experiences while we figure out the safest next step.

USA Terrified and guilty. What do I do?

Upvotes

Hi, my situation is long and difficult.
I am 26, married and have bipolar 2. In May my father started having severe health issues. I began lashing out by drinking more than ever, hanging out with crappy friends, and it led to a drunken hook up with a friends friend. Some may say I had a manic episode.
He did not finish, and I buried this information with me.
I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks later.
My husband and I were previously trying before my fathers health declined, so we assumed the baby was ours.
I’m now 17 weeks pregnant, and very scared this baby isn’t his. He knows the truth, and he still loves me for it (though he shouldn’t. I fucked up.)
We took a paternity test today, and I’m freaking the f*** out.
I live in Florida, where there is no abortion past 6 weeks.
Any advice? Anything please.

USA MA at 4 weeks, saw sac measuring 5 weeks on ultrasound today. Help! Indiana

Upvotes

2 weeks ago I had a medical abortion. I was very early so they couldn’t see anything on ultrasound. I took the pills and had the normal cramping and clotting and bleeding that day that then lingered for about 6 days. In between there I got a UTI and was on antibiotics. Attributed that to why I felt like garbage. Now two weeks later testing very positive on urine strips I called my regular gyn (in a pro life no abortion state) for hcg bloodwork. Now I have nothing to compare it to, but it came back at over 14000. I completely freaked thinking it must be ectopic because there’s no way a baby survived that bleeding. Went for an ultrasound today in my home state and there is a sac in my uterus measuring 5 weeks. I should be 6 weeks 2 days based on my LMP. I’m waiting on a call back from the abortion clinic, but was just looking for any similar stories in the meantime. I am getting blood redone again tomorrow but I am STRESSED.

USA i don’t know what to do

Upvotes

Hi, i’m 23f pro choice. located in Georgia. I have been with my boyfriend for a year and a half. i’ve had an abortion before. early on in our relationship. i don’t regret it, but it was very hard and i told myself i will not get pregnant again unless im ready, and will be extremely cautious because i didn’t want to ever experience an abortion again. the abortion i had was at 5 weeks and 4 days. i took the pills and it was traumatizing, but i don’t regret it.

i found out i was pregnant this past friday night. planned parenthood is closed sat sun so i called early monday and the earliest appointment is tomorrow morning. i have a very supportive boyfriend, he doesn’t care what i do and will support me either way. i didn’t think i wanted to have a kid, and i especially didn’t think i would feel this torn about getting an abortion. i’m very pro choice & liberal. I grew up poor with abusive parents. i’ve always known i’d be a great mother but i didn’t really have any want to have a kid. i also always told myself if i want kids i would never put them in a financially compromised situation. i know there’s never really a right time and nothing can truly prepare you for a child.

we are both 23 and in college still. i am a nursing major. last week before i found out i was pregnant i learned i need to take this fall semester off because of issues i had with financial aid. my parents aren’t able to help financially so im taking a gap semester to work and save up money for tuition. he is also still in school and we both have about 1.5 or 2 years left before we graduate. I know that even if i kept this pregnancy nothing would prevent me from finishing college. i love school and nursing is my passion so i was really bummed out to realize i have to take a semester off. that being said we are broke. i am moving out of my apartment with my roommate back to my moms in a couple weeks which was already the plan before i found out i was pregnant. he still lives with his parents and is planning on moving out soon as he has a bartending job and well paying internship so he can afford that, but im moving home because i had a complicated year and need time to save up money before being on my own again.

i know that logistically it’s stupid. were both broke saving up to move out, i have been very depressed this year and need to focus on my own mental health. i’m just so torn. when i had an abortion i told myself this will not happen unexpectedly again but here i am. i feel so bad for even considering keeping the pregnancy when i know that there are so many limiting factors to giving my child a good life. i know that even if i did keep it the child would be happy and i would provide everything i can for it to have a good life, but i never wanted to have a child in a situation as difficult as this one.

im moving back with my mom, and we aren’t very close but have improved our relationship a lot the last couple years. she knew about the abortion i had and was very supportive. she was a little excited and said if i kept it she would support me as well, but the choice was mine. she is an immigrant, i have 2 siblings and she had us young, my older sister when she was 18. she helped me through the abortion and said that she came to the states to give us a better life and that she wanted me and my other siblings to finish school, have a good life, and not struggle if we want to have kids.

my older sister had 2 kids with her highschool sweetheart, she’s in her 30’s and they’re both toddlers. she didn’t end up finishing nursing school before she had them as her ex husband was controlling and abusive. i completely understand her and would never judge her situation. i love her and my nephews. but i see how much she struggles as a single mom and she’s going back to college with me to complete her nursing degree as well but i see how hard it is when you’re a mom.

i feel guilty for wanting to keep the pregnancy when i see how my mom struggled raising us, i see my sister struggling to finish school as a single mom, and it would bestupid for me to have a child right now considering my financial situation. my boyfriend is very supportive and said he will work ten times as hard if i want to keep it to provide the best life he possibly can, and i believe him. but i know that nothing is promised and many women like my mom and sister fall in love with men who convince them that they will be okay and after a few years they abandon them. so while im grateful to have a loving and supportive boyfriend i will never let myself depend on him completely and think that it’ll be like this forever even tho i hope it is.

i just don’t know what to do. i feel guilty and stupid for even considering keeping this pregnancy but i also feel really emotional and guilty for wanting to terminate it. just looking for advice.

UK and Ireland Body image issues after being 8-9 weeks pregnant. Will my body come back after abortion?

I'm about 7 weeks pregnant and my body has already changed so much. Some of my jeans are struggling at the seams on my hips. My joggers are tighter on my hips, ass, thighs. My stomach is bigger but doesn't look like a bump. My boobs are bigger, but the weight just makes them sag down - i previously had smaller boobs and didn't have to wear a bra but now that is impossible.

Google says most early weight gain is bloating or water weight but i'm seeing physical changes in my body that don't align with this; they don't seem temporary.

I am struggling so much with my body changing in ways I cannot control. I have to eat 2x my normal amount otherwise I feel violently sick and throw up. I can't exercise for the same reasons. I know I should be reasonable and patient with my body going through something but it is so hard to watch my body change in ways that I don't like and I cannot influence at all. My body doesn't feel like my own right now :(

I worry that post abortion it will be weeks to months before I will start to feel in control of my body again. First I will have to recover from the surgery, then wait for hormones and my cycle to settle, then start being able to work on myself. I fear I am going to be trapped in a body sculpted by a baby that doesn't even exist with nothing I can do about it.

Question 1 - how long after surgical abortion do you start to feel like yourself again? I am currently very low energy, always hungry, and constantly nauseous throughout the day - how long until this goes away?

Question 2 - if your body changed much in early pregnancy, did it eventually go back? Specifically boobs!

This may seem vain and like it shouldn't be my biggest issue but it is a very difficult feeling like I have no control over my body - a feeling that does extend further than how my body looks. I feel ill and lethargic every single day and i'm definitely more emotional, and i'm so sick of it!! I really want to get back to how i used to feel but I know it won't be an instant change after the abortion.

My boyfriend is very supportive and continues to say he loves my body and finds me attractive. This reassurance helps but I worry about the future.

Sending love to everyone dealing with pregnancy and/or abortions regardless of your situation <3

Canada Abortion pill on Thursday for non viable baby. Canada pls, looking for tips and support to get through it. Really scared

Canadians only please. Abortion Pill experiences, looking for support.

Wanting to know others experiences with the abortion pill in Canada. My doctor says it’s best option since I want to try for a baby again. I was misdiagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy and my baby was harmed after I was given methotrexate and had surgery for ectopic but it was in my uterus all along. I’ve never taken the drug before and I’m really scared. We are trying to avoid a D & C. Any support and suggestions for how to get through it the best are greatly appreciated ♥️♥️

Europe Not sure if i want abortion, Please help

So yesterday afternoon i got my thyroid result that tells me i have hyperthyroidism , doctor suspecting that i have some metabolic disorder. So all my life i had hypothyroidism but from last April it turned to hyper. Also yesterday evening i tested positive for pregnancy with the clearblue showing 2-3 weeks. I am 36 years old and i have one baby boy who is 2.3 years, now my brain says to go and get the abortion done because i feel i am not mentally fit to raise another baby because he is too small and i get tired by my day managing my son and my work. I was planning another baby when my son will turn 3.5 years, Now my heart says i should continue because in my religion its sin to take life out of anything and indirectly i asked my sisters and they said its okay if you have another baby. When i think of myself with 2 babies i imagine more stress at this point of time and also all of my friends has 1 baby . I have anyways scheduled an abortion appointment after 10 days, but some times i think am i doing good. Please help me and share your thoughts because now i am stuck.

Update:

I just got my thyroid result which shows i have thyroid antibodies which shows i may have Grave disease or Hashimoto
P—TPO-ak (Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies): 10 kIU/L (Reference range: <5.6)

Asia Need help for abortion experience

Hi,

I am 41 and my wife is 37 (we are married since 11 years and have a 10 year old kid).

She has a 28 day cycle (and usually gets her periods around day 25 of the cycle but some of them might have been chemical pregnancies also recently, accompanied by heavy cramping which we mistook as early painful periods).

We had unprotected intercourse on days 7, 11 and 13 (only times we had it this month).

Her last periods started on August 6th (so 26th day today). Due date seems September 3rd (2 days from now).

Being hopeful for her periods in the next 2 days but please share your experiences of the abortion (if still needed) in case, it gets delayed by a few days.

Nerviosa. Ojala todo pase pronto.

USA seeking abortion advice in texas

Hello, i am 19F living in west texas with my boyfriend. I will say this is completely my fault and i do feel guilty about it. We weren’t using protection and i feel dumb. Regardless here we are and we are not ready to be parents and provide a comfortable life for our baby. I already have access to one of the websites for the abortion pill. I am wondering if i should seek medical care or an ultrasound before i got thought with it, or if they find out im pregnant, will they eventually find out i had an abortion? Any help would greatly be appreciated.
