Seasonal Start Mega Guide

This post is an update to the Seasonal Mega Guide.

You can find generic leveling guides as well as other advice at Maxroll and Icy Veins. For console players, you can find some advice at https://www.soulstone.gg/.

This guide is meant to be a little more specific, as well as cover aspects not touched in those guides, such as Group Leveling, Console Leveling, Seasonal Leveling Tactics, and Leveling Secrets. (These will all be in replies to this thread to allow specific linking. As such, at the moment this post is currently a work in progress.) Some of what I post will be shared from the above sites, amended to add a little extra efficiency.

S39 – Haedrig's Gifts

Season 39 starts this coming Friday, June 26th, 2026. The season starts at 5pm PDT for all console players, no matter where you live. For PC (NA/US) the season starts at 5pm PDT, for PC (EU) the season starts at 5pm CEST, and for PC (TW/KR) it starts at 5pm KST.

This is the first of four guides I am posting for Season 39. The others are:

For most players, after leveling to 70, the main focus will be finishing Chapters I through IV of the season journey in order to obtain a full 6-piece armor set known as Haedrig's Gift.

The Haedrig's Gifts for Season 39 are as follows:

  • Barbarian: Wrath of the Wastes
  • Crusader: Roland’s Legacy
  • Demon Hunter: Unhallowed Essence
  • Monk: Raiment of a Thousand Storms
  • Necromancer: Bones of Rathma
  • Witch Doctor: Helltooth Harness
  • Wizard: Tal Rasha’s Elements

From a casual perspective, and looking at the GR20 / Torment IV requirements to finish out the 6-piece set, this is a very easy list for everyone except the necromancer.

The necromancer will probably be better off equipping any random legendaries and leveling up the LoD gem to beat GR20. Necromancers can boost this by upgrading scythes or two-handed scythes and filling their weapon and bonus cube slots with generic multipliers and dominate that way. So, don't feel bad at all for them.

In terms of top adjusted clear ranking from Season 33 (see the "Extra Cube" column), the necromancer has the strongest endgame build for its Haedrig's Gift. Wizard is still in the top 10, followed closely by witch doctor and monk. The only gifts that fall outside the upper half of rankings are barbarian and crusader, but can easily pivot to a different build to push with. Here is a full list of their rankings: Necro Rathma (1), Wizard Tal Rasha (10), WD Helltooth (14), Monk Raiment (16), DH Unhallowed (21), Barb Wastes (24), Crusader Roland (33).

Top-ten push builds (again, in terms of you adjusted clear rank) from Season 33 that aren't on the list of usual suspects are: Barb MotE, Necro Masquerade, Necro Inarius. The necromancers get the gains of the generic multipliers I mentioned previously. I am actually not certain why Might of the Earth is so strong.

Note that the casual leaderboard and in-game leaderboards were contaminated by the busted end of Season 33, and shouldn't be relied upon. Here is the disclaimer on the casual board:

The leaderboard data for season 33 is heavily skewed: After the season accidentally ended early and the following rollback, some people ended up with their non-seasonal paragon points on their seasonal character, while the character would still show their seasonal paragon. Consequently, many adjusted clear values are inflated.

The barbarian (Wastes) and demon hunter (Unhallowed) both start with very good solo speed farming sets. Tal Rasha is also decent for the wizard with the in-geom or aether walker variant. The other classes will want to look to a different set (or no set) to farm with.

For a beginner/casual overall I would recommend the barbarian. The Wastes set gives you a great start, and is an excellent speed farmer. It only needs the Ambo's Pride mighty weapon and the Lamentation belt to really get going, and both can be cubed.

Good luck with your season start, fellow Nephalem, and never forget that town is lava!

So after buying D4 sinking maybe 30 hours into it….i decided to buy D3.

D3 is 10x more fun, it looks incredible - how a game should look….

I literally won’t play D4 until it’s as simple & genuinely fun as D3.

I feel dumb for not playing this years ago…

QUESTION Rainbow Portrait: Anyone to farm Sir William with me on EU on NS?

Hi all,

I haven’t been playing S39, and I have nothing left to do in Non-Seasonal (NS) until S40.

I was thinking of farming Sir William again in Whimsyshire (I have a Staff of Herding and I’ve already done... 386 unsuccessful runs) to get the only cosmetic I’m still missing: the Rainbow Portrait.

I’ve read that the best strategy is for each person to open a game and invite 3 other players when Sir William is found. That doesn’t seem like a great strategy to me, because if I’m the one who encounters him, there’s a 100% chance I’ve already dashed into him and killed him with my Dash Monk.

There also seems to be this rule:

“Only TWO unique spawns can spawn in one game in Whimsyshire, and Evil Oliver and Super Awesome Sparkle Cake are always one of them. This means that if you meet Tubbers, Midnight Sparkle, or another random unique spawn before you run into Evil Oliver or Super Awesome Sparkle Cake, then you know Sir William can no longer spawn in that game. You should therefore just leave, remake the game, and start a new Whimsy run. Knowing this definitely saved me some time on unnecessary clears!”

I tend to apply this rule when I solo, but if several of us are playing together, I’m not sure it would save us much time.

So the strategy I suggest, as Sir William can spawn anywhere on the map, is that we all go in separate directions to clear the map as fast as possible, check in the Chat Window to see if we have met Sir William or not, and then reset the game over and over again (maybe in Normal, so that we are not distracted by the loot).

If you’re interested, feel free to send me an invite if you play on the EU server! Here’s my BattleTag: Nikookaburra#2952

(Or you can just react below with your BattleTag, and I'll send you an invite.)

QUESTION Do people enjoy crafting Staff of Herding every season?

I think it's crazy that they make you do this grind every season to complete the altar.

Just wondering if I'm in the minority or not.

QUESTION Returning player

I’ve played the current season, 39, but was curious if someone could enlighten me on a way to quickly level in non-season as a witch doctor currently level 47. I am on Xbox so PL isn’t really an option since there seems to be low player count. TYIA

QUESTION Do I need to build around 'Boss Mode' conquest specifically?

Or do I need to roll a specific character or build or gear setup to even be able to stand a chance in SSF?

I need my third conquest after 'Avarice' and 'The Thrill'. Apparently 'Boss Mode' is supposed to be the third easiest by far but it seems very daunting. Especially as this is my first season and first character - Rathma necromancer (850 paragon) - so I'm not good at reading the maps yet.

Is it enough to just respec into 'Blood Rush - Metabolism', 'Bone Armor - Harvest of Anguish', throw some movement speed gear on ('Boon of the Hoarder', movement speed boots, ring, amulet) and expect to be able to finish after some practice? 16 bosses in 20 minutes seems crazy to me when you factor in travel time but I don't know how crazy exactly.

Thought experiment

Let's imagine Blizzard descended from the heavens and created a season that combined all seasons and all their features. The question is, how much will people be able to get into the game if the restrictions on the level of the Great Portal and the leveling of legendary gems are removed?

My second Solo GR150 clear in Non-Seasonal (Paragon 5925)

Did it... finally!

It took almost 5 months (after I cleared a GR149 in 13'24 on April 1st with 5,856 Paragon points) and 4,120 keys, but GR150 is down again, with my main class this time. I cleared it 12 seconds faster than the GR150 I took down a couple of weeks ago with LoD Death Nova, so that’s nice.

Here is the link to the video 📺 : https://youtu.be/lDbAFRnPWLc

I feel a huge mix of joy and… relief! As a side note, I had planned to quit this push today, after I used the 250+ keys I had left, and not to come back to it before I had farmed a lot of XP during Season 40, i.e. about 120 days from now.

What can I say about this clear?

Well, there are a couple of quite funny things:

- I died… 8 times! 3 times before the boss, and 5 times against the boss. Hamelin is a great boss to fight at lower GR levels as he spawns adds, but he is one of the worst bosses at this level (considering my Paragon level), as he can easily one-shot you.

- Hamelin is also a boss (the only one? I’m not sure anymore…) who can jail you under an effing dome! It made the end of the fight quite comical — you can even hear me yelling “NOOOOOOOO, #@/!!?=#” as… well, I’m not going to spoil it, as it is quite fun to watch on the video! (I wasn’t sure there were enough mobs left further on, so I chose to get to 100% progression right at the entrance of the level.)

So this makes this run a very memorable one to end this push.

Besides that:

- You can also see how I geared my Enchantress so that she can’t die in a GR150.

Anyway, many thanks to all the players who answered my questions about this build over the years — and I have asked many! In turn, I would be happy to help newer Akkhan players if I can.

As for now, I will take a break from the game until the start of Season 40, where I’ll try to farm some XP in group on the EU server if I have time (feel free to send me an invite if you feel like it so we can play together - Nikookaburra#2952). And then I’ll try to take a GR150 down with Rathma (I’m talking NS of course — what could be as fun and pleasant to play as NS? 🤷‍♂️😄😄).

Here is an update of what I managed to do so far with the builds I pushed in NS:

Para Class Build Tier Time Keys
5925 Cruz Akkhan Condemn (Phalcon A6) 150 14'26 4120
5912 Nec LoD Death Nova 150 14'38 496
5903 Nec Rathma AotD 147 13'32 210
5896 Cruz LoD H-Bomb (w Johanna's Argument) 146 14'51 260
5890 Cruz Roland Sweep Attack AD (w Zei) 140 11'41 98
5892 Cruz Invoker 140 13'20 ?

Just to clarify: with Akkhan, that makes 4,120 keys, but it was likely the 6th run that had the potential to be a clear—I probably failed 5 times before that.

Bottom line: if you have about 5000-6000 paragon points in NS and you want to clear a GR150, LoD Death Nova and Akkhan probably are very serious contenders!

QUESTION blessed shield LOD help

I’m currently building a Legacy of Dreams (LoD) Blessed Shield Crusader. I love the Captain America fantasy of throwing the shield around, even though my friend keeps giving me crap for not playing a top-meta build.

I want to enjoy the game's actual progression loop instead of just sitting at the entrance of a high-tier Greater Rift while my friend carries me—in my opinion, taking the easy carry ruins the fun.

A few questions for the Crusader mains out there:

  1. Can I reliably level LoD solo from scratch? My plan is to run lower GRs, level up the gem gradually, farm better gear along the way, and organically climb up to Torment 16. Is this feasible with LoD Blessed Shield?
  2. What are the key break points for LoD Blessed Shield? Which specific legendary items (like Jekangbord or Gyrfalcon's Foote) give the biggest immediate damage spikes while my LoD gem is still low level?
  3. Any tips for smoothing out early/mid-game progression solo?

Appreciate any advice on optimizing the build without needing a carry!

QUESTION Question

So I ain’t play much Diablo but I remember how much I enjoyed it when I played it back then so booted up my ps3 and just got back into Diablo 3. I know the version I’m playing is very behind and not up to date. With that being said I went and took a look in the ps store on my ps5 and Diablo 3 the eternal collection is $60 but Diablo 4 is $50. Judging by the pricing I assume Diablo 3 is better than 4 but makes me wonder is it really ? I’m looking for opinions to help me with this transaction! Whatever game I get ima have my buddy purchase so we can play together and I’d like to purchase/recommend the better game within the series cause he played Diablo 3 and knows it’s good and it makes him wonder also if diablo 4 is good, better, or worst than the prior. Thanks in advance🙏🏼

QUESTION Highest achieved paragon so far?

I have googled this question, but I got a few inconclusive answers, so maybe you guys have more detailed info: What is the highest level paragon that has been achieved?
I saw the answers differ from 10.000 to 25.000 or even 30.000, but other than that, nothing that really confirms anything.

QUESTION Trag’ouls Death Nova Build - Scythe of the Cycle Question

I am trying to improve my solo push this season. I am at about 1500 paragon, 4 primal ancients. Currently at 135 GR. One thing I notice is that I bleed my bone armor stacks fast with some elites and the rift guardian impacting the bonus from SoC. It’s obviously a consequence of that gear.

How do people approach elites and the RG? With an elite I know to look to draw mobs first and with the RG to save some pylons.

But are you just stuttering siphon blood, triggering death nova when CoE is on off cycles then spamming in the physical element? Are there better 4th slot options if this is my issues but the trash mobs would be hard?
