Question All Abode Bookstore?

Anybody know what's up with this new coffee shop bookstore that doesn't have restrooms and is perpetually closed?

It looks like another First Street money laundering scheme business and then there's like four other businesses attached to the poorly designed sign on the outside (compass up ministries, P53, North shore 218). I don't know how it's going to stay alive with studio Cafe down the street which is a really lovely space. But 211 fashion was able to stay up for years despite zero traffic in and out of the building.

If we want to revitalize downtown, we should have businesses that are actually open to the public.

Been a wild day. Saw this mama and her three cubs from our window today. Just hanging in our neighbor’s yard. Never seen so many bears and this close in a sighting before. Feeling so lucky.

Question Trucking schools

Hello! Can I hear from anyone who has experience getting their CDL license in the Twin Ports area? Google was only so helpful. I saw that Lake Superior College offers a CDL program, can a student get financial aid to pay for it there? Or do other truck driving schools offer some sort of financial aide as well? Lastly, for people who did go through truck driving school and wanted to stay in the area, were you able to obtain a decent job here?

Question Businesses of Past. What comes to mind that you miss?

Making a meatball sandwich for lunch and it made me think of an old cafe called Takk for Maten that used to be downtown.

I remember them having good food and was a unique place to chill out.

It’s making me think of all the businesses that tried and never survived.

What’s yours you miss?

Question Metal/Hardcore scene in Duluth?

Is there a metal, hardcore, or punk scene in Duluth? Is there even a venue in Duluth or is it just breweries, bars, and the Caddyshack? And would Duluth benefit from an actual music venue?

Discussion Looking for shop space

Hey all- long shot but I thought I would try anyway…

Looking for auto shop space. Looking to rent a space if anyone knows of anything- my garage is too small.

I work for myself but would like to be indoors by November.

Open to any and all situations. (Shared/artist spaces/unused home garage)

I’m chill, and a very nice person!

Hi, I'm not from Duluth, but I've come across these Crew Jones CDs. I can't find any actual book information on the With Love, Crew Jones one. Would anyone be able to share any information? Thanks!

Question Natural gas to propane stove conversion installer?

Hello. My ancient propane stove is failing so I’m in the market for a new stove. I have a few models in mind, but have come to learn that most gas ranges are made for natural gas; however, my hookup is propane and installing a conversion kit is not something I want to take on.

Any recommendations for licensed installers who could do this when the time comes?

Thanks!

Interesting Stuff Anyone have some David Tomassoni stories?

I know Dulith isn't exactly the right region, but it's the most active Northern Minnesota sub.

I followed the late state senator/rep's later career since he did a lot for MinnState and I teach in the system.

I also grew up on the Upper Michigan Iron Range and his connections to the Minnesota Ranges and unions are fascinating.

There's not much out there on him beyond his ALS diagnosis and passing. Any personal stories or places to look for more information like local newspapers would be appreciated.

The Uof M used to have this amazing interactive ArcGIS map that showed all bodies of water with wild rice. I clicked on it today and the website is no longer there. Does anyone know where it went, or an alternative website? I liked the U’s website for reference. Thank you!

Moving or Visiting I would like to spend my 30th birthday with y'all!!

Howdy, I live near Kansas City, MO. It will be 100° here on my birthday (Wednesday). I've been researching where it will be cooler, & I found your area that has perfect weather this week.

Pair that with the wonderful scenery I have yet to see in my life, just northeast of Duluth, & now I'm very tempted to visit.

I broke my left foot on June 14th when I got thrown off my motor scooter (some would call a Vespa). I am now almost fully healed, but not able to go back to work just yet. I live with my mom (my dad died last month) & brother, so I don't have any bills (car & student loans paid off). This means I still have money left in the bank.

I have a side gig I'm still able to do where I forage for various fruits (pawpaws, persimmons, elderberry, etc) & some herbs, which I then use to make various goods that I sell at events & farmers markets. I even make my own maple syrup!! If I can find a place where I can just show up & sell (like I did this year in Madrid, NM), that would be amazing.

If not, that's fine. What I really want are nice places to camp at & scenic areas where I can ride my bike while taking in the splendor of Lake Superior's cliffs. If y'all know of any pockets where I won't have to sift through crowds of tourists, let me know!!

I'm unsure if I'll be able to get this opportunity again in the foreseeable future, so that's why I'm making these plans now.

Question Blood on the Clocktower games tonight?

Looking for a couple more players for tonight to play Blood on the Clocktower, newer players preferred or even brand new. Most of the group has only played once so its a learning experience for everyone. This is an LGBQT+ friendly group. There will be pizza and drinks and it will be at a public place. Message me if you're interested, it starts at 5pm tonight.

Local Events Calling Duluth Deadheads (and all music lovers)

I caught this on Facebook and thought I’d share. Previously, I only knew about the fantastic Duluth Does Dylan series. But apparently events like this are twice a year. Get out and support local music and this beautiful venue if you can. And as Denny would say, Be Kind!

Question Physical Therapist recommendations?

Long story short; I recently had my shoulder repaired and have not been pleased with my PT through Essentia. 4 months into recovery and my home exercises have barely changed, my PT is not listening to my concerns about my body and the entire program feels “cookie cutter”, as opposed to being tailored to my specific needs post-surgery. Basically feels like my physical therapist is going through the motions. It has been extremely frustrating and a huge waste of critical time and money.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for PT around town? Specifically for shoulders?

Thanks in advance.
