I was genuinely wondering how ETH handles this: what happens if I get admitted with additional requirements? Do they offer English-taught bachelor courses for international students, or is there any workaround/alternative if they are only available in German?

Hi, given the current situation in the US and many other countries, where a large number of students are majoring in CS and many graduates seem to be strugling to find jobs, is pursuing a CS degree still worth it ?

Additionally, does a Computer Science degree from ETH provide a significant competitive advantage compared to studying CS at other universities ?

Does MSc Data Science absolutely require GRE as part of the application for non-EU/EFTA bachelor's degrees? It's not listed in the requirements here https://ethz.ch/en/studies/master/application/master-datascience.html (nor for CS) but this https://www.reddit.com/r/ethz/s/0O1KpBEtuv (for CS) made me very anxious. Is it required even though its not listed in the programme-specific requirements? The FAQ says many msc programs require it (but doesn't say all) and then it directs to this https://ethz.ch/en/studies/master/application/international-bachelor/application-documents/programme-specific-documents.html where its not listed for Data Science so I'm confused.

Can someone who has applied more recently, preferably from European uni but outside EU/EFTA, confirm whether it was absolutely required?

Hi, I am starting my BSc in Materials Science. Today was the Pre-Study event. I wasn't able to join, so I wanted to ask if anyone here attended it and could share some info you got today.

Could anyone who's received the need-basis scholarship for Master's degrees please share their experience? How possible/easy is it to get it? I have read the requirements, but they are a bit vague on some parts. For example, is there a maximum parents' salary, above which you can't get the scholarship anymore? Thanks :)

I am planning on joining ETHZ for MS CS. But I am really concerned about getting a job post degree because I will be coming with student loan from India. Can you guys give the honest opinion, tip or situation and if it's worth it.

I am starting at ETHZ next month for an Msc. I'm moving from the U.S., but I am also a dual Swiss citizen. I'm lucky enough to have family friends living in the city that are giving me a place to stay while I find an apartment, but once I do I'm going to need to find a job ASAP because I don't want to go through all my savings paying rent.

As a Swiss citizen, I know that it will be much easier for me to get employed, however, I do not speak German. My family is from the French-speaking parts, so I only grew up speaking French and I know this will be a big factor in employability. I would have loved to work a service job like bartending since I have experience, but I know this is unlikely because of the language barrier. English speaking people, what kind of jobs have you been able to get? Are there usually available jobs at the university? And for my Swiss people, any recommendations on jobs where not speaking german might be less of a factor?

I completed my enrollment at ETH Zurich relatively late, and I was wondering when we can expect to get access to the different student tools and platforms.

In particular, I’m wondering about things like:

• our ETH student email
• the course schedule/timetable
• access to the various student portals and platforms
• anything else we’re supposed to set up before the semester starts

Since I enrolled late, I’m not sure if I’m just supposed to wait or if there’s something I need to do on my side.

I’m planning to pivot into electrical engineering after my US degree (international student from Eastern Asia) and I saw that ETH Zürich would be a good place to do a second bachelors for electrical engineering. My major is Cognitive Science so I haven’t taken enough STEM classes to do a masters directly. I’m fluent in German and getting the C1-Certifikat is not an issue. I understand that I’d probably need to prepare for the comprehensive entrance exam.

I was wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience and if it’s unusual for someone to do a second bachelors at ETH. I’d appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

I am a 22-year-old guy who recently graduated from a mid-tier university, and I’ve set my heart on pursuing a Bachelor degree at ETH Zürich. But of course, it will be very demanding academically and language-wise.

I am highly adept at picking up languages easily and quickly, but this wouldn’t change the fact that German is a difficult language to master in a short. time. Zürich is expensive, so I do not know either if I can get any meaningful scholarships that can fund my studies.

I’m curious about your opinions. Am I chasing a goal that is realistic to achieve? Are there any of you who was in the same situation as me and made it to Zürich?

My profile : 9.58/10 CGPA , from a tier 3 Indian college. Lots of AI projects , started into robotics with some projects and papers. A very good robotics research project.

I’m Harshith, 25, from India, and I’m coming to Zurich in September for an exchange semester at ETH.

I’ve been looking for a room for a while now and it’s honestly been much harder than I expected 😭 I’ve already checked the websites ETH recommends and sent out quite a few messages, but still haven’t managed to find anything.

I’m looking for a room in a WG from around 1st September until the end of February 2027. I’m not too picky about the area as long as it’s reasonably connected to ETH.

About me — I’m into movies, sports, travelling, going out/parties, trying new food and exploring places. I’m pretty social and would love a WG where people actually talk to each other and maybe do things together sometimes, but obviously I’m also fine with everyone doing their own thing.

My budget is around CHF 550–900, preferably furnished.

If anyone knows someone who’s leaving their room, subletting, or just knows of a place that might be available, please DM me. Even if you just know someone I could ask, that would help a lot.

Also, if there are any other Indians coming to ETH or UZH this semester, feel free to message me! Would be nice to know a few people before getting there :)

I had an exam the 28th. I know it is part of the Basisprüfung for people studying environmental sciences. The USYS department has their grade conference on the 10th of September.

I did the course as an electoral course and I am from a different department. Will I get my grade earlier or will I have to wait until the 10th. I am asking because it was a multiple choice exam. So in theory they could determine the grade on the spot and I hate not having the results during the holiday (it's way less relaxing...)

I want to apply for a msc in DS/CS. I know most important is GPA and i have 28.89/30 in CS at Politecnico di Torino

I have heard some other Italian unis counts "30 e lode" as a 31 or more when calculating the weighted average but at PoliToit its just 30. And also PoliTo is well known of its hard exams. Does admission committee actually know this context or do they just look at the raw numbers? It feels pretty unfair if they just compare them blindly

Rest of my profile: I have one NLP workshop paper published by ACL. Im also doing some computer vision research with a professor and a PhD student right now, but my prof said its longterm project and it won't be finished or published before the November deadline. I have absolutely zero internship experience. What do you think about my chances to get accepted?

I’ve gone through the formal admission website, but I’d love to get some realistic insights from current MTEC students or recent admits regarding the selection process:

1. Competitiveness & GPA: What are typical GPAs / grade ranges of admitted students? Is there an unofficial cut-off where applications are filtered out early?

2. Selection Weighting: How does the admissions committee balance pure academic grades vs. the Statement of Purpose, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular/leadership engagement?

3. Industry Experience vs. Academic Focus: Does the MTEC committee place significant value on relevant internships, working student roles, and practical experience, or is the focus almost purely academic?

4. Optional GRE for EU Applicants: Since the GRE is not strictly mandatory for EU/German degrees, does submitting a strong score still provide a competitive edge, or does it not make a difference?

5. Program Experience: For current students, how is the balance between technical electives and management/economics coursework? Anything you wish you had known before applying?

I'm getting the following error every time I click on any course (e.g. 227-0103-00L). Noticed this from the course catalogue, but even if I look up the course code in a search engine and click it from there, I get the same thing. Is the website down? Or am I not supposed to be looking up courses yet?

I'm in QE so I think I don't need to sign up yet, but I wanted to at least look up the courses and it's not working. I have the same issue on both firefox and chromium browsers, tried clearing cache and data, or looking up the course in incognito mode---no change. Tried with and without ETHZ VPN also. Any help appreciated.
