Hi everyone, I just wanted to share my success story and give people some hope and show that it is possible.

After 508 job applications in 1.5 years, I managed to get a full time job in the pharma/biotech industry as a NON-EU (Canadian) citizen. I have a MSc from UZH. I also have no connections and am entry-level (not specialized).

My approach was to buy a GA, and mass apply while on the train, and explore new regions of the country every day. All the jobs I applied to were in English (and a few French) and all jobs were found on linkedin. In this market, I honestly say quantity > quality. I used AI to help write cover letters for every application, but of course they were mostly written by me just refined by AI to make it job specific. No way I could of written 500+ on my own…

Stats: 321 rejections 14 interviews 10 were 1 round 1 was 2 rounds 1 was 6 rounds (torture) 2 ghosted me

As a non-eu do not bother applying to temporary jobs (like a 1 year maternity cover) or internships. They straight up told me they dont want to deal with paperwork for a short term thing. Permanent and full time only!!!

Seit Anfang 2024 wurde bei mir Narkolepsie Typ 1 diagnostiziert, aber ich litt bereits seit Sekundarschule an dieser Krankheit, nur wurde es damals nicht diagnostiziert.

Für alle, die nicht wissen, was Narkolepsie ist:

Es handelt sich um eine chronische neurologische Erkrankung, bei der das Gehirn die Fähigkeit verliert, den Schlaf-Wach-Rhythmus richtig zu regulieren.

Das führt dazu, dass man tagsüber unwillkürlich einschläft, ohne dies kontrollieren zu können.

Aufgrund der späten Diagnose konnte ich meine schulischen Ziele nicht erreichen; in der Schule gab es keine vorgenommen Massnahmen für mich, ich konnte nur mein Bestes geben, um im Unterricht mitzukommen.

Nach der Schule wurde es schwierig, eine stabile berufliche Laufbahn aufzubauen. Ich wechselte von Job zu Job, da ich oft missverstanden wurde und Kündigung bekam.

Die meisten Unternehmen machen sich nicht die Mühe, dir zu helfen, geeignete Regelungen für dich zu finden, wie zum Beispiel passende Arbeitszeiten oder dir zumindest die Chance zu geben, durch eine Behandlung Fortschritte zu machen.

Letztendlich ohne eine stabile berufliche Laufbahn fällt man in finanzielle Instabilität und verschuldet sich.

Das Schwierigste ist, zu sehen, wie deine Altersgenossen vorankommen, während du in derselben Schleife feststeckst.

Man verrichtet irgendwelche Gelegenheitsjobs, wohl wissend, dass man es besser hätte machen können.

Ich überlege mir eine gofundme zu erstellen, alle jeweiligen Tipps und Ratschläge wird sehr hilfreich.

I remember seeing quite a lot people in the Swiss expat bubble saying things like, “I’m in Switzerland to work, not to learn any of its languages.” If you counter-argued that argument here on reddit people became mad and downvoted the hell out of you.

Well, now some of those same people are complaining that they can’t find a job after being laid off because the new employer expects them to speak the local language. I’m sorry, but I can’t help finding that a little funny. Obviously, nobody is forcing you to learn German, French or Italian when you move to Switzerland. But if you voluntarily move to another country and plan to live and work there long-term, is it really that unreasonable to expect you to make an effort to learn the local language?

Nobody is saying you need to be fluent or have a C2 certificate on day one. But completely refusing to learn the language because “I’m here to work and not to learn (integrate)” while expecting employers to accommodate you indefinitely seems pretty short-sighted. And it’s not exactly a new development that Swiss employers often want people who can communicate with colleagues, customers and authorities in the local language. - They just had no other choice during the last 5-10 years.

What I find especially funny is the irony of it all: “I’m not here to integrate, I’m just here to work” apparently works great as long as the job market is happy to accommodate you. Once employers start being picky again and want local language skills, suddenly Switzerland is unfair, racist and whatnot. Guys, if you choose to move to another country and make it your home, learning the local language seems like a pretty basic part of integrating into the place you chose to live.

Of course I feel sorry for anyone who has lost their job, especially those who are genuinely making an effort to integrate into Swiss society. For the others, though, I’ll admit it: I feel a little bit of satisfaction watching some of them discover that “I’m here to work, not to learn the language” probably wasn’t the smartest long-term strategy.

I used to visit quite often, I am planning to go to the sauna in aquabasilea however I heard a lot of bad things recently online about sexual activities etc. Does any of you know if it is really that bad as you read online?

Meine Partnerin (B) und ich (CH) haben zwei gemeinsame Kinder und leider werden wir uns trennen. Das Gespräch steht noch aus, der Inhalt und der Ausgang ist uns beiden bekannt.

Ich möchte im Sinne des Hausfriedens und zum Schutz der Kinder schnellstmöglich ausziehen. Auch will ich noch den letzten Frieden nutzen um die bestmögliche Lösung für alle zu finden, ohne einen Rosenkrieg zu starten. Ich fürchte er wird kommen, aber dann bitte erst nach Auszug, Unterhaltsvereinbarung und Klärung Kinderbetreuung. Im Idealfall, greift das kommenden Konflikten vor.

Derzeit wohnen wir in einer 4.5 Zi Wohnung. Ich suche eine 2.5 Zi Wohnung im gleichen Ort und strebe eine Betreuungsaufteilung von 40/60 an: unter der Woche eine Nacht und einen Tag, jedes zweite Wochenende von Freitag bis Montag und in den Schulferien = 39%/Jahr

Die Kinder sollen, so lange wie möglich in der alten Wohnung bleiben, aber ich kann das finanziell nur unter großen Einbußen ermöglichen (gehört leider dazu, deshalb versucht man wenigstens die Familie zu halten... Aber manchmal geht's einfach nicht mehr)

Ich möchte eine gemeinsam erstellte Unterhaltsvereinbarung bei der Kesb zur Bestätigung einreichen. Habt ihr mir Tips, was ich dringend beachten muss, was ich nicht vergessen darf und wie ich verhindern kann, dass ich in ein Loch ziehen muss und meine Kinder nicht sehen darf?

I’m currently thinking of switching to Swisscom from Sunrise but I’m struggling to get over the absolutely incredible price hike after the first 12 months of subscription.

I’m looking for some opinions from people who use Swisscom, firstly as to whether they do“loyalty schemes“ where they keep you as a subscriber by offering you decent deals at the 12/18 month mark and secondly, whether or not you feel the quality of the service is significantly better than other providers, and worth it for the price?

I have really gotten into Saunas since living in Switzerland. Took a bit to get used to at first (the textile frei) but a few years on and I find it great for my mental health to sweat it out, and even enjoy the natural part of it. I’ve been trying to expand my experience a bit and curious where people’s favourites are ?

I like a mixture of relaxation / peacefulness, but then also enjoyed a party sauna Aufgusse style with heat cranking to max. (Some Aufgusse being much better than others).

So far I’ve been too:
Burgenstock (a few times)
A Resort in Austria that’s focused on wellness which I’ve been back to a couple of times
Lindau Therme (de) - was alright but it would be difficult on colder/wet days as it’s not that big indoors (lake was a bit underwhelming too).
Badeparadies (de) - was a bit hectic, but was an experience
Aquabasilea for the XXL event on the weekend - it was ok, but quite an older crowd, mixed Aufgusse - some good, some pretty avg.
And a couple of other random hotels

What’s folks experience ? Best recommendations / experiences. I was thinking maybe Tamina Therme or Sole Uno I should check out. Any particular days / events ?

Today, I received in my mailbox the 12% initiative of VD. I must say that I am rather in favour of paying 12% less tax. The flyer stated that Bern has lower tax and also spendings and still a high quality public service. Apparently VD has over 3 billion in liquidities from previous taxes but also has the highest rising public spendings.
How can canton VD have so much more public spendings and mainly have spendings that rise faster than in other cantons ? Please aware me as I always find these flyers very one sided.

People smoking in public places such as train/bus stops, I hope there's karma coming for you. One thing is smoking inside a bus stop shelter in a small town where nodoby is around you. Another thing is smoking in bigger towns and cities with a bunch of people, including babies in prams around. When I wait for a train in an open-space station and someone lights a cigarette nearby, I just move further away from them, just to run into another smoker a few meters away. 😅

Absolute shockers are people who sit down next to you on a bench with a cigarette in their hand. If I smoked, I really cannot imagine being this selfish and willfully ignorant.

When I moved to Switzerland my mind was blown away when I saw packets of cigarettes being advertised in supermarket prospects which last time I've seen that in another countries was like 20+years ago.

Also, the amount of people throwing cigarette butts on the ground is outrageous.

Why are there so many German migrants pushing German as the only way to integrate in Switzerland and always disconsidering Rumansch, Italian, French as local language?

Do you expect with Germany sinking further, to have even more of these neo-Swiss Germans calling for a German Switzerland?

I know more than 1 Swiss from the French side that traveled and lived abroad and now came back and keep getting complaints about Germans telling them they need to integrate...

What should be the limits of Germans pushing their culture as Swiss?

Do Swiss from the German side feel a difference culturally from Germans or it's just me and friends from the French side that get ticketed off by Germans claiming Germans ess as Swiss?

What could be done for Switzerland to withstand German migration without being fully supplanted like the Rumansch did. I mean keeping a tiny bit of land is not good enough. Could getting more people to learn local languages help in swissness?

Meaning getting more people to learn Rumansch or getting Germans to have to learn French or Italian help them learn that Switzerland is not about being German?

I took the train from Winterthur to Gossau SG (departed ~09:08), traveling with a Grand Est Pass purchased on 29.06.2026, before the cutoff date after which passes become residency-restricted, so it should be fully valid in Switzerland regardless of where I live. A ticket controller (female, ~40-50) told me my ticket wasn’t valid. When I pushed back, it turned into a heated argument. She refused to give me her name or employee ID, then flipped me off and walked away. Does SBB really take these complaints seriously or they just don’t care?
