I've edited the entire game into a cinematic TV series. With just 15 episodes, streamlined to under 6 hours. It includes cutscenes, plot important dialogue and fights edited to look more like cutscenes.

I can't be the only one that thought the game was incredibly cinematic, so much so that it would make an amazing TV show!

Thus, here I present my Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 series.

Unlike traditional "full game movies" this is not just a cutscene compilation, instead this project extensively edits and reorganizes the game's footage into a story-focused episodic experience. Gameplay elements, repetitive encounters, mission titles, HUD elements, and game-oriented pacing have been removed whenever possible to create a smoother and more immersive cinematic presentation similar in structure to an anime series.

It's very important to state again how this differs from other "movies" of the game. There are two types out there:

  1. Versions that include only the cutscenes, but they don't edit them smoothly together or consider continuity of the plot for the audience to fully understand the plot. So, unless you've played the game, it can be disjointed. These versions also don't include important dialogue sections that aren't cutscenes (ie camp conversations or NPCs), thus missing key plot points which could confuse new audiences or even those familiar with the story but who wanted to experience the good stuff outside of just the cutscenes. They also cut out fights completely which is very jarring. Those "movies" are about 4 hours long, so they are missing 2 hours of important dialogue and fights.
  2. Versions that do include all that stuff, but keep all the repetitive walking or exploring, which isn't at all like a movie. They all tend to keep the HUD which remove the feeling of being a movie. They are about 8+ hours, which means there's at least 2 hours of that type on non-cinematic gameplay.

Specific features this edit includes:

-Cinematic transitions for a better viewing experience
-Battles with the gameplay HUD completely removed
-Important Camp conversations to expand upon the characters
-Consistent widescreen aspect ratio for the dialogue scenes, removing the text boxes and using J-cuts and L-cuts to make the dialogue flow more like the cutscenes
-Expedition Logs weaved into the cinematics
-The final episode gives you a choice for the Maelle/Verso ending

So please don't say this type of edit already exists.

This series has been carefully crafted to make each episode feel like a dedicated episode with it's own plot arc. It's not just a supercut or cutscene compilation.

As such, I feel like this series could be a great for those who only want to watch the story (either for the first time or on a rewatch) and wish to have all the cutscene and important non cutscenes, without the repetitive gameplay. It's as if you were watching a Netflix-style series.

This video is only Episode 1 but the rest of the series has been finally is uploaded! And if you enjoy it, please consider subscribing!

Edit: A better english sub was added as an option to ep 1, will be working on the rest asap! thanks u/Impossible_House_413 . Episodes 1-4 now have better english subtitles.

Also, thanks u/LucasX1002_br for the Portuguese subtitle!

My favorite performances and dynamic in the game

One of my favorite parts of the game was Gustave comforting Maelle when she confided in him about feeling lost. Their conversations really hit close to home

Charlie Cox surprised me with how good he was as Gustave especially since this was his first time voice acting, and Jennifer English as Maelle is probably one of my most favorite performance in recent years

I was just playing around with photo mode after I progressed past the seemingly optional mini boss battles in Visage, got my frame, placed some red lights to match the ambience and to try and make the characters stand out against the background, then decided to cycle through the filters. Let’s just say the Outline filter reveals some intricate details that don’t immediately present themselves as you enter this particular area lol. The last photo is what I saw first, and turning the intensity of the filter down really struck me as a fun screenshot to keep, and the first photo is what I originally intended to capture.

Discussion Knowing that many of the devs met on Reddit, why haven’t we ever tried for an AMA?

Just curious because I’m sure given outreach they’d be into that, they’ve done all kinds of little YouTube channels and I’m sure this community would love that kind of thing.

Edit: I don’t know what I’ve done for downvotes lmao Did we do this and I just missed it?? Or are we like “no let’s not talk to the devs if they agree to an AMA”?

Met Jennifer English (and Ben Starr) yesterday at Fanexpo

I met both of them at fanexpo, don't have a picture with Starr since I didn't have enough time to wait in line, but when I was chatting with my friend he showed up right next to me, and I blurted out that I really liked his performance in Warframe and he gave me a high five. I managed to get both of them to sign a custom Maelle Rapier I bought since my friend waited in line to meet Ben, but yeah both of them were absolutely lovely to meet and absolutely worth the money

I also told English that I picked the Maelle ending first and she replied with "correct"

Question How far in the game am I? Spoiler

Upvotes

First time player here. I grew up in the PS1/PS2 era with FFVII and FFX, and this is one of the best games I've played to date.

I just beat the Paintress, had the big plot twist, and from what I can tell I'm about halfway through the return to Lumiere where sh*t is going down left and right. Renoir is in some kind of tower and the Expedition is honing in on him.

I went into this game completely blind, so I have no idea how much of the main storyline is actually left. It felt like I was nearing the (real) final boss, so I went back to the Continent and have been doing all sorts of side quests. My characters are all between levels 58-65.

Can anyone enlighten me on roughly how much of the game is left? Or is Lumiere the final dungeon? I want to explore every last part of the world, including the Gestral arenas and the tower with the trials, so I'm really hesitant to complete the storyline. The world is just too good!

Also, if anyone has any recommendations on areas to check out, I'm all ears. I finished the Paintress' Workshop and promptly got slaughtered - same with some of the harder trials in the tower. It seems like there's a fine line between the areas you're supposed to go, and the bonus bosses (a la FFVII and FFX). Thanks in advance!

Question Luminas Farm

Guys, I need to farm Lumina in a way that doesn't take too long. I know one of the good spots to farm Lumina was the Chromatic Danseunse boss, but I beat her in the mid-game and I'm screwed, haha. I need to farm at least 200 Lumina per character, and I haven't wanted to start NG+ because I still have to beat Simon, Chromatic Clea, both Dualists, and the Lantern in the Endless Tower. Any recommendations?

This giant nevron in the Sadness area of Visages looks like it would make a worthy opponent. However, it totally ignores me! How rude, lol

When did you finally say "Screw it, I'll face the final boss?"

In your runs, when did you finally decide to take in the final boss?

For me, it was when I was actively looking for places to grind just to see what else the game had to offer. Not because a boss was hitting too hard but for me that was the signal of "it was time to move on".

What about you?

Discussion I started playing the game a few days ago, and the plot twist caught me completely off guard. Spoiler

I never considered the possibility that the whole world could be an invention. My theory was that Maelle was a nevron created in the image and likeness of Alice living in Lumiere and that was why she wanted to leave Lumiere, and everything about the monolith felt so familiar and close to her. I also thought that Gustave's remark that she was better at relating to gestrals than to humans was a hint
