I can't be the only one that thought the game was incredibly cinematic, so much so that it would make an amazing TV show!
Thus, here I present my Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 series.
Unlike traditional "full game movies" this is not just a cutscene compilation, instead this project extensively edits and reorganizes the game's footage into a story-focused episodic experience. Gameplay elements, repetitive encounters, mission titles, HUD elements, and game-oriented pacing have been removed whenever possible to create a smoother and more immersive cinematic presentation similar in structure to an anime series.
It's very important to state again how this differs from other "movies" of the game. There are two types out there:
- Versions that include only the cutscenes, but they don't edit them smoothly together or consider continuity of the plot for the audience to fully understand the plot. So, unless you've played the game, it can be disjointed. These versions also don't include important dialogue sections that aren't cutscenes (ie camp conversations or NPCs), thus missing key plot points which could confuse new audiences or even those familiar with the story but who wanted to experience the good stuff outside of just the cutscenes. They also cut out fights completely which is very jarring. Those "movies" are about 4 hours long, so they are missing 2 hours of important dialogue and fights.
- Versions that do include all that stuff, but keep all the repetitive walking or exploring, which isn't at all like a movie. They all tend to keep the HUD which remove the feeling of being a movie. They are about 8+ hours, which means there's at least 2 hours of that type on non-cinematic gameplay.
Specific features this edit includes:
-Cinematic transitions for a better viewing experience
-Battles with the gameplay HUD completely removed
-Important Camp conversations to expand upon the characters
-Consistent widescreen aspect ratio for the dialogue scenes, removing the text boxes and using J-cuts and L-cuts to make the dialogue flow more like the cutscenes
-Expedition Logs weaved into the cinematics
-The final episode gives you a choice for the Maelle/Verso ending
So please don't say this type of edit already exists.
This series has been carefully crafted to make each episode feel like a dedicated episode with it's own plot arc. It's not just a supercut or cutscene compilation.
As such, I feel like this series could be a great for those who only want to watch the story (either for the first time or on a rewatch) and wish to have all the cutscene and important non cutscenes, without the repetitive gameplay. It's as if you were watching a Netflix-style series.
This video is only Episode 1 but the rest of the series has been finally is uploaded! And if you enjoy it, please consider subscribing!
