Game references in NTE: Neverness to Everness

I was playing NTE: Neverness to Everness today when I noticed all the references to Expedition 33. NTE is an open world gacha game set in a world fairly similar to ours, but it has a special game mode called 999 Nights that is essentially a D&D game. Turns out that this D&D game within the game uses a map very similar to the one in Expedition 33, same thing for the portals!

I couldn't make a screenshot of it, but the image warps inward for a few seconds when a boss fight begins in the open world like in E33, and the background music is reminiscent of the ones Sakapatates love! They also have mini platform instances here and there on the map that are easier for people like me who are very bad at it usually lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people considered it to be plagiarism, but I see it more as a homage since the gameplay, story and world building are completely different. Has anyone else played it?

Edit: if you think that this might constitute an ip infringement, share the information with Sandfall. Their legal department can handle the situation with Hotta Studio.

Discussion Thoughts on a sequel C33 or another DLC? Spoiler

I have around 90 hours in the game and I’ve finished the game twice (once on NG+). C33 is still preforming well, do you think there is room for a sequel or more DLCs? I think Verso’s draft was great and I feel like it could’ve had more to it. It did make me happy all the way through it (minus my beef with Esquie’s cousin)

Personally, with every good game, I naturally want more to the game but C33’s dual ending has a book-ending feel if that makes sense, like a satisfying ending. I would love more to the universe or even the game but what are your thoughts and what would you add to the universe?

Discussion About the ending *SPOILER* Spoiler

Before anything else, I want to make clear that I absolutely love this game. This isn't me hating on the story or saying the ending ruined it for me. If anything, the fact I'm still thinking about the morality of the ending and arguing with myself over it is a sign of how much the story worked for me. This is just one aspect of the ending that I see differently from how I think the game presents it.

I know Maelle's ending is pretty clearly presented as the "bad" ending, and I understand why.

Alicia is losing herself in the Canvas and becoming another Aline, and she's forcing Painted Verso to continue existing even though he clearly wants to die. Both of those things are wrong.

But I still think Maelle's ending is morally better than Verso's for one major reason: Lumière is still alive.

The game spends its entire runtime establishing that Lune, Sciel, Monoco, Esquie, the Gestrals and everyone else in the Canvas are genuinely living people. They have hopes, fears, relationships, cultures, love, grief and independent thoughts. They're not just drawings being puppeteered by the Dessendres.

The Gommage is horrifying precisely because these people are alive and don't want to die. Lune's reaction to the second Gommage is honestly one of the most haunting images in the game for me.

So while Maelle's ending condemns Verso to an existence he doesn't want, Verso's ending essentially kills an entire civilisation.

And I don't think the game gives that enough weight.

The Dessendres are basically gods to the people of Lumière, and they're pretty cruel gods. Imagine discovering that our universe was created by someone, only for them to decide they'd become too emotionally attached to it and needed to move on, so they erased humanity. Would we really consider that justified because it was healthier for our creator?

And I think the God analogy goes even further than that. If the Dessendres created genuinely conscious life, then they have a responsibility towards that life. Creating Lumière shouldn't give them unlimited ownership over it; if anything, it gives them a duty to protect it.

Renoir and Aline have a responsibility towards Alicia because they brought her into existence. I don't see why the basic principle should suddenly disappear when we're talking about the thousands of conscious lives their family brought into existence inside the Canvas. Those people didn't ask to be created either, and they certainly didn't ask to become collateral damage in the Dessendres' family grief.

That's why, of the two endings we're given, I'd actually choose Maelle's. It's not a happy ending and Maelle is clearly going down a dangerous path, but at least Lumière gets to exist. Verso's desire to die matters, but so does the desire of potentially thousands of other conscious people to live. Verso should be allowed to choose death for himself, but that shouldn't mean choosing death for everyone else.

For me, though, there's an obvious third ending that would have been far better.

Verso dies. Maelle says goodbye and leaves the Canvas. Alicia returns to reality and the Dessendres finally grieve Verso properly. Aline puts a blanket over the Canvas and the family agrees to leave it alone. Lumière carries on without them.

Verso's creation then becomes his legacy rather than a way for his family to pretend he's still alive.

Alicia could potentially even visit occasionally. I sympathise with her more than Aline because her real life was permanently changed by the fire. She's disabled and badly scarred, while as Maelle she can run, fight and explore. There's a huge difference between permanently escaping into the Canvas and visiting your friends for a few hours before returning to reality.

If entering and leaving the Canvas is inherently dangerous to Alicia, or if Lumière literally cannot survive without trapping part of the real Verso's soul, then fair enough. That adds genuine nuance and makes the choice much more difficult.

But if the Canvas can continue without destroying Alicia or imprisoning Verso, then I think the binary choice we're given is unnecessarily cruel.

Verso deserves the death he wants. Alicia deserves to live her real life. The Dessendres deserve to heal. But Lumière deserves to live too.

The Dessendres may have created Lumière, but once they created genuinely conscious life, I don't think they had the right to erase it.

TL;DR: I love the game and this isn't intended as hate towards the ending. I just think Maelle's ending is flawed rather than outright morally worse. She refuses to let Verso die and is losing herself in the Canvas, but Verso's ending effectively wipes out an entire civilisation of conscious people. The Dessendres created those lives and therefore have a responsibility towards them, not the right to erase them when the Canvas becomes unhealthy for their own family. The ideal ending would be Verso dying, Alicia returning to reality, the Dessendres leaving the Canvas behind, and Lumière being allowed to carry on without them.

Discussion Fun little detail I spotted. Don't know how well known it is, so i might just be throwing another drop in the ocean Spoiler

I will give some massive props and credit to this unspoken detail thats been in my mind since I thought of it.

The fact that every expedition leaves stuff behind for others to make their journey easier, to help those who come after. And yes, even that phrase itself. And the fact the game is incredibly art focused. Ends up giving unspoken detail that I really like, that each artists journey is built on the previous persons, nothing is wholly original and every artist helps the ones who come after.

E33 is inspired by other jrpgs. And E33 will inspire other jrpgs that will inevitably surpass it. Its a nice little meta detail I actually really like.

Yall are fucking converting me into a fan and I hate it. I'm supposed to be the biggest hater. Yet I keep finding things to enjoy.

Edit: Yall keep focusing on the wrong part of my post. So I deleted it. Now focus on the actual neat detail i found.

Discussion Knowing that many of the devs met on Reddit, why haven’t we ever tried for an AMA?

Just curious because I’m sure given outreach they’d be into that, they’ve done all kinds of little YouTube channels and I’m sure this community would love that kind of thing.

Edit: I don’t know what I’ve done for downvotes lmao Did we do this and I just missed it?? Or are we like “no let’s not talk to the devs if they agree to an AMA”?

Discussion How do you even defeat the boss who just erases me out ? Spoiler

I have completed all the bosses with little effort but now I am stuck on this wall called "Simon". The difficulty spike from other bosses is quite substantial.

After 2-3 hours of try-harding I somehow managed to clear its first phase and thought okay it was not that difficult until he got Clea's power for the second phases ?!

He has absurdly high speed attacks with little to no time in between and a very tight parry window. One miss and my character gets one shot from the hit. Because of this I made a survival build with second chance lumina on all characters + lune healer and maelle shielder mode, turns out it's pretty much useless because this boss ERASES me out of the canvas ?! If I die once, no matter if I dodge or not, I just get erased out ? Wiped my whole team which was barely hanging on !! And now I can't even revive them, then struggled with the last stand until I died from missing one parry from the thousand light speed swords he throws at me.

And I am not even on hard difficulty, I am playing on expeditions difficulty. I can't even imagine how people are doing it with x100 health + hard mode challenge.

Please help, I liked the boss design and battle style but I wanna kill it in my way, what things can help me to not get erased or at least survive it till last or break it's shield faster ?

Theory Ending discussion. Spoiler

Had to remake this post because the title was a bit to spoiler heavy. My apologies to all who commented.

This theory probably has been discussed already but I just wanted to touch base and see what people think about it.

I'm currently in my NG+ run in Alicia's Epiloque and realized that the real world we see might not be as real as it seems. Finding the entire map of the game painted in Aline's greenhouse was a big sign. Fun Fact: When you look at that map from behind it goes away and the canvas acts like a window. ''Art can be a window, and art can be a mirror. And great art. Great art is both.''

But there are more signs such as.

- Why does the window outside Alica's room only show the Eiffel Tower whereas the rest of the area is shrouded by fog?

- The only other open room above the kitchen has a window with a Obscure Nevron behind is. Just like the Manor within Verso's canvas. Also this is the same room where we can find regular clothes for Maelle but why here and not in her actual room? Also why does this room have a mirror and yet the other bedrooms do not.

- All the clocks are still frozen.

- Why does Monoco The Third still have a secret room behind a painting in the ''Real'' world.

- All the paintings depicting the setting of the game long before it happened. Who painted these? If Aline and Renoir have been in Verso's canvas all this time then why took the time to paint how the inside of Verso's canvas looks and took the time to set all of these paintings up within the manor.

- December 33rd.

- The Painting showing Alicia vs Alicia long before it happened.

- Why do the clothes of Clea and Renoir have those golden patterns similar to design of the Curator and Paintress but Aline's clothing does not?

All of these things paint a pretty clear picture that even the real world isn't real but the question is who created it. Did Alicia write a story about a world within a world as a form of escapism or is there something else at play?

Gameplay Am I too underleveled

I just beat the duelist at normal difficulty and I was at level for 14 for my characters.

I am now getting my ass handed to me by Monaco at level 16 characters. Do I need to grind more because this is giving me the same difficulty I had with the hardest Elden ring bosses.

Discussion End of Act 1 ( first playthrough )

THERE COULD BE A BIT OF SPOILERS ( i forgot how to do the spoiler tag 😭, so if anyone kindly would tell me how to do it i will edit this post )

Just brought the game 2 days ago ( playing on the hardest available mode because i need a bit of challenge [ former Soulsborner who got every single souls game on Plat ])

I‘m in love with this game, the difficulty gives me the same amount of frustration i‘m getting in dark souls and i love it, THE BIGGEST THING I LOVE IS U CAN DO FRIGGING PHOTOMODE IN A DAMN CUTSCENE THAT IS SO COOL OMG I DID SO MANY SCREENSHOTS!!!!

Lampmaster got me on a chokehold ngl, didnt expect PHASE 2, and the fact that when u loose u need to START FROM THE BEGINNING had about 10-11 attempts until i beat him ?

and damn THE END OF ACT 1 WAS SO UNEXPECTED FOR ME IT BROKE ME DOWN, I WAS LIKE NO WAY, HOW? WHY? I THOUGHT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE MC??

Almost lost the mood to continue playing because i got really attached to the character and their playstyle ( not using any direct gendering because trying to keep spoilers away ) BUT I‘LL KEEP GOING BC I‘M LOOKING FORWARD TO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

KEEPING YALL UPDATED

( No Spoilers pls ✨ from Act 2 onwards to the end )

Edit: I think i found out how to make spoiler tags, there is an button on the phone for it lol

Question Luminas Farm

Guys, I need to farm Lumina in a way that doesn't take too long. I know one of the good spots to farm Lumina was the Chromatic Danseunse boss, but I beat her in the mid-game and I'm screwed, haha. I need to farm at least 200 Lumina per character, and I haven't wanted to start NG+ because I still have to beat Simon, Chromatic Clea, both Dualists, and the Lantern in the Endless Tower. Any recommendations?

Discussion I started playing the game a few days ago, and the plot twist caught me completely off guard. Spoiler

I never considered the possibility that the whole world could be an invention. My theory was that Maelle was a nevron created in the image and likeness of Alice living in Lumiere and that was why she wanted to leave Lumiere, and everything about the monolith felt so familiar and close to her. I also thought that Gustave's remark that she was better at relating to gestrals than to humans was a hint

When did you finally say "Screw it, I'll face the final boss?"

In your runs, when did you finally decide to take in the final boss?

For me, it was when I was actively looking for places to grind just to see what else the game had to offer. Not because a boss was hitting too hard but for me that was the signal of "it was time to move on".

What about you?
