My favorite performances and dynamic in the game

One of my favorite parts of the game was Gustave comforting Maelle when she confided in him about feeling lost. Their conversations really hit close to home

Charlie Cox surprised me with how good he was as Gustave especially since this was his first time voice acting, and Jennifer English as Maelle is probably one of my most favorite performance in recent years

Discussion Knowing that many of the devs met on Reddit, why haven’t we ever tried for an AMA?

Just curious because I’m sure given outreach they’d be into that, they’ve done all kinds of little YouTube channels and I’m sure this community would love that kind of thing.

Edit: I don’t know what I’ve done for downvotes lmao Did we do this and I just missed it?? Or are we like “no let’s not talk to the devs if they agree to an AMA”?

Photo Mode Photo mode has been really fun to mess around with on my first play through.

I was just playing around with photo mode after I progressed past the seemingly optional mini boss battles in Visage, got my frame, placed some red lights to match the ambience and to try and make the characters stand out against the background, then decided to cycle through the filters. Let’s just say the Outline filter reveals some intricate details that don’t immediately present themselves as you enter this particular area lol. The last photo is what I saw first, and turning the intensity of the filter down really struck me as a fun screenshot to keep, and the first photo is what I originally intended to capture.

When did you finally say "Screw it, I'll face the final boss?"

In your runs, when did you finally decide to take in the final boss?

For me, it was when I was actively looking for places to grind just to see what else the game had to offer. Not because a boss was hitting too hard but for me that was the signal of "it was time to move on".

What about you?

Discussion I started playing the game a few days ago, and the plot twist caught me completely off guard. Spoiler

I never considered the possibility that the whole world could be an invention. My theory was that Maelle was a nevron created in the image and likeness of Alice living in Lumiere and that was why she wanted to leave Lumiere, and everything about the monolith felt so familiar and close to her. I also thought that Gustave's remark that she was better at relating to gestrals than to humans was a hint

Just a PSA incase anyone has had this happening and is scrat3ching there heading trying to figure out what exactly is going on. Just roll back to your previous versions.

Discussion Challenge (?) run idea

I've just started a run where I must swap the weapon every time I get rewarded with it (either from a fight, found item or story progression). (Main story only)

Also, whenever I get said weapon, it must be used, so the "oldest" weapon in the active party leaves.

Let's say Gustave has Cruleram (oldest), Lune has Lighterim and Maelle has Brulerum. If I get Sciel's Hevasson, Gustave is out and Sciel comes in with the new weapon. Now Lighterim is the oldest so it's next in line.

Also, if you get an upgrade for an equipped weapon, it gets refreshed so it becomes the newest one and goes to the end of the line.

My goal is to learn to sinergize every combination of party members and to have to adapt my builds at every corner, basically. Pictos, luminas, weapons passives, attributes and skills.

The main damage dealer may be forced to be the support and vice versa.

I've 100%ed the game a couple times now but I feel that I always come back to machine gun Verso, burn Maelle and electrifying (?) Lune. So let's see what else may I come across :)

(Plus, I know, maybe it's time to stop painting)

Question Luminas Farm

Guys, I need to farm Lumina in a way that doesn't take too long. I know one of the good spots to farm Lumina was the Chromatic Danseunse boss, but I beat her in the mid-game and I'm screwed, haha. I need to farm at least 200 Lumina per character, and I haven't wanted to start NG+ because I still have to beat Simon, Chromatic Clea, both Dualists, and the Lantern in the Endless Tower. Any recommendations?

Theory Ending discussion. Spoiler

Had to remake this post because the title was a bit to spoiler heavy. My apologies to all who commented.

This theory probably has been discussed already but I just wanted to touch base and see what people think about it.

I'm currently in my NG+ run in Alicia's Epiloque and realized that the real world we see might not be as real as it seems. Finding the entire map of the game painted in Aline's greenhouse was a big sign. Fun Fact: When you look at that map from behind it goes away and the canvas acts like a window. ''Art can be a window, and art can be a mirror. And great art. Great art is both.''

But there are more signs such as.

- Why does the window outside Alica's room only show the Eiffel Tower whereas the rest of the area is shrouded by fog?

- The only other open room above the kitchen has a window with a Obscure Nevron behind is. Just like the Manor within Verso's canvas. Also this is the same room where we can find regular clothes for Maelle but why here and not in her actual room? Also why does this room have a mirror and yet the other bedrooms do not.

- All the clocks are still frozen.

- Why does Monoco The Third still have a secret room behind a painting in the ''Real'' world.

- All the paintings depicting the setting of the game long before it happened. Who painted these? If Aline and Renoir have been in Verso's canvas all this time then why took the time to paint how the inside of Verso's canvas looks and took the time to set all of these paintings up within the manor.

- December 33rd.

- The Painting showing Alicia vs Alicia long before it happened.

- Why do the clothes of Clea and Renoir have those golden patterns similar to design of the Curator and Paintress but Aline's clothing does not?

All of these things paint a pretty clear picture that even the real world isn't real but the question is who created it. Did Alicia write a story about a world within a world as a form of escapism or is there something else at play?

Discussion End of Act 1 ( first playthrough )

THERE COULD BE A BIT OF SPOILERS ( i forgot how to do the spoiler tag 😭, so if anyone kindly would tell me how to do it i will edit this post )

Just brought the game 2 days ago ( playing on the hardest available mode because i need a bit of challenge [ former Soulsborner who got every single souls game on Plat ])

I‘m in love with this game, the difficulty gives me the same amount of frustration i‘m getting in dark souls and i love it, THE BIGGEST THING I LOVE IS U CAN DO FRIGGING PHOTOMODE IN A DAMN CUTSCENE THAT IS SO COOL OMG I DID SO MANY SCREENSHOTS!!!!

Lampmaster got me on a chokehold ngl, didnt expect PHASE 2, and the fact that when u loose u need to START FROM THE BEGINNING had about 10-11 attempts until i beat him ?

and damn THE END OF ACT 1 WAS SO UNEXPECTED FOR ME IT BROKE ME DOWN, I WAS LIKE NO WAY, HOW? WHY? I THOUGHT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE MC??

Almost lost the mood to continue playing because i got really attached to the character and their playstyle ( not using any direct gendering because trying to keep spoilers away ) BUT I‘LL KEEP GOING BC I‘M LOOKING FORWARD TO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

KEEPING YALL UPDATED

( No Spoilers pls ✨ from Act 2 onwards to the end )

Edit: I think i found out how to make spoiler tags, there is an button on the phone for it lol

Discussion Favorite non-meta weapons and builds?

Imma hit you with a pipe wrench!

Title. Just a fun discussion and jumping-off point for build talk. I'm 100%-ing Act III before a NG+ and have been experimenting with some non-meta builds. That is, I am not using Cannaro, Duollison, Simoso, Esquim, or Esqium and instead developing other strategies around less-used weapons. My current setups, in order of my personal preference:

  • Verso - Tireso, Free-Aim and Marking build. Can do tons of damage and get up to S rank quickly, but requires luck to proc energizing shots. Can easily switch to Corpeso or Contorso for different damage types. I love Tireso's look (pipe wrench and claw hammer). However, this is pretty much the same as MOST Verso machine-gun builds, so I'd take advice on a more unique weapon or approach.
  • Maelle - Licorum, Gustave's Homage build. Takes a turn or two to set up big damage, but usually worth it. This is almost a meta-build, I see Licorum brought up in Maelle builds sometimes, but I am using it more for the thematic elements.
  • Lune - Choralim, critical burn build. Easy enough to get Lune to 100% crits (The One picto), then use Elemental Trick into either Elemental Genesis or Lightning Storm. Two-turn setup as compared to Esquim's typical three-turn setup for max damage (ET, base attack, then LS) (I know you can use EG on turn two but then you are not actually using Esquim's main ability). With Double Burn and Longer Burn, even strong enemies fall quickly, and Choralim's level 10 ability allows her damage output to increase even more.
  • Monoco - Joyaro, First-Turn Nova build. Drop an Almighty Mask skill (Duolliste Storm, usually), but then he has no follow-up for at least one turn. I put some breaking and charging pictos on him to get to Break Point ASAP.
  • Sciel - Sucetton, Sealed Fate. Basically, use Sealed Fate every turn to apply and consume foretell and proc Twilight immediately. She does extremely consistent, moderate damage. I haven't had a chance to see if it would consume enough foretell for End Slice, but it doesn't seem like it. First turn, she does about 600K-700K damage, applies 5 foretell, and consumes 1-3 on the back end. Second turn, she does about 1.5 million damage, consumes the rest of the foretell, applies 10 more, then consumes 1-3 more again. Third turn, consumes 4, applies 10 again, consumes 1-3 again. So after three turns she's consumed up to 15 foretell, way lower than what you can do with Charnon or Martenon. I can sometimes hit a Twilight Dance if I get enough AP, but it doesn't benefit from Feint's bonus damage.

Anyway, when I hit NG+ I plan to give myself a personal challenge--completely even out everyone's stats and use a different weapon in each area based solely on story and role-playing rather than min-maxing. If I come across any more fun builds while doing so, I might just post again. Fair warning.

Any suggestions or comments about fun, different, unusual, and/or non-meta builds are welcome (probably)!

Discussion How do you even defeat the boss who just erases me out ? Spoiler

I have completed all the bosses with little effort but now I am stuck on this wall called "Simon". The difficulty spike from other bosses is quite substantial.

After 2-3 hours of try-harding I somehow managed to clear its first phase and thought okay it was not that difficult until he got Clea's power for the second phases ?!

He has absurdly high speed attacks with little to no time in between and a very tight parry window. One miss and my character gets one shot from the hit. Because of this I made a survival build with second chance lumina on all characters + lune healer and maelle shielder mode, turns out it's pretty much useless because this boss ERASES me out of the canvas ?! If I die once, no matter if I dodge or not, I just get erased out ? Wiped my whole team which was barely hanging on !! And now I can't even revive them, then struggled with the last stand until I died from missing one parry from the thousand light speed swords he throws at me.

And I am not even on hard difficulty, I am playing on expeditions difficulty. I can't even imagine how people are doing it with x100 health + hard mode challenge.

Please help, I liked the boss design and battle style but I wanna kill it in my way, what things can help me to not get erased or at least survive it till last or break it's shield faster ?

Question How far in the game am I? Spoiler

First time player here. I grew up in the PS1/PS2 era with FFVII and FFX, and this is one of the best games I've played to date.

I just beat the Paintress, had the big plot twist, and from what I can tell I'm about halfway through the return to Lumiere where sh*t is going down left and right. Renoir is in some kind of tower and the Expedition is honing in on him.

I went into this game completely blind, so I have no idea how much of the main storyline is actually left. It felt like I was nearing the (real) final boss, so I went back to the Continent and have been doing all sorts of side quests. My characters are all between levels 58-65.

Can anyone enlighten me on roughly how much of the game is left? Or is Lumiere the final dungeon? I want to explore every last part of the world, including the Gestral arenas and the tower with the trials, so I'm really hesitant to complete the storyline. The world is just too good!

Also, if anyone has any recommendations on areas to check out, I'm all ears. I finished the Paintress' Workshop and promptly got slaughtered - same with some of the harder trials in the tower. It seems like there's a fine line between the areas you're supposed to go, and the bonus bosses (a la FFVII and FFX). Thanks in advance!
