[Noobs Corner] Are you relatively new to fantasy football? Ask your most basic questions here. (Vets, come in and help them!)

[I've posted versions of this in past seasons. I'll probably re-post one more time this preseason.]

Just eight days until the Seahawks and Patriots retake the field to start this new NFL season, and for many of you, it may be your first (or second) fantasy season altogether. So even though we have Index Threads available every day for your individualized team questions -- who should I draft? trade? add and drop? how do I work FAB? what's my FLEX slot for? what should my bench look like right now? -- we wanted to create a space where it's clear that no question is too dumb or too basic, and where us veterans can do what we can to help you along.

[Our Who Do I Start? index threads will open up in a few days.]

So tell us what you're still trying to figure out right now. And we'll do our best to walk you through it.

And for the veterans here, what advice do you think all fantasy rookies need to know before the season begins? What resources should they have bookmarked? What have you learned in the past few years/decades that might help someone?

When we've done this before, some ideas jumped out the most for me worth re-sharing here:

  1. Never put a Thursday player in your FLEX slot.
  2. Really, no one's a genius at this. Follow your gut on start/bench.
  3. Once the season has started, forget about ADP. [ht: u/durant026]
  4. A trade you don't like between two managers who know each other is not collusion. A trade that helps a good team become better is not, by itself, collusion. (ht: u/my_chat_account)
  5. "Don’t overreact to Week 1." (ht: u/my_chat_account) "But also: don't underreact! Figuring out which first-week stunner is Puka Nacua 2023 and which is Isaiah Likely 2024 is crucial." (me)
  6. "Rookies tend to start slower. If a rookie is in a crowded backfield or drafted to an already established WR room wait until at least week 4 to question if it was a good pick and should you prepare to move him." (ht: u/Ok-Durian7935.)
  7. Learn the Fantasy Football Days of the week (ht: u/jdefalconr):
  • Monday: Watch social media for news from the past weekend's games, injuries especially. If you have Monday night players monitor for injury news and say your prayers if you're behind in your matchup. Begin to think about your lineup for the upcoming week's games.
  • Tuesday: First day of practice for teams playing Thursday. In many leagues waivers release and you can make new claims ahead of waivers processing on Wednesday (again, in most but not every league). Be ready to submit waiver claims to pick up the new hotness on the wire or fill a sudden gap in your roster.
  • Wednesday: AKA "Dudesday." First useful practice reports come for teams playing on the weekends; watch them carefully for news so you can be first to hit waivers for a key player. On Dudesday some players will get maintenance rest days and be listed with some out-of-the-blue injury to explain their absence. Don't panic, watch Thursday to make sure the player gets at least a limited practice in. Also in many leagues waivers process on Wednesdays so be ready to scoop up anyone valuable your leaguemates foolishly drop.
  • Thursday: Continue to monitor practice reports and news. It's more serious if players aren't practicing on Thursday. Make sure your lineup is updated so you don't accidentally start someone or leave someone benched for a Thursday game. Get those Thursday players out of your FLEX if you can.
  • Friday & Saturday: Continue to monitor practice reports. At this point players will often be ruled out for the weekend so be ready to hit waivers for replacements or shuffle your lineup.
  • Sunday: Monitor social media for news on injuries, whether borderline players are playing or not, and extreme game weather that might affect your lineup choices. Update your lineup as necessary. Watch some football, enjoy your day and try not to let anxiety consume you as you watch your team perform (or struggle).

We were all once strangers in the land of Egypt. If you need basic advice, ask. If you can offer some, give it.

Injury Report Emeka Egbuka (sprained toe) and Jalen McMillan (knee bruise) have “lingering issues” and aren’t locks to play in Week 1. Walsh says McMillan is running routes and is “getting there,” and there’s optimism he and Egbuka could play Week 1.

Player Discussion Rhamondre could have a massive load this year

With news of Henderson nursing an injury coming into the season, and Stevenson already considered the lead back to start the year, I am bullish on the 6th year vet.

He's found moderate success on the ground and through receptions his first years in the league, finishing seasons as the RB 11, 27, 28, and 22 the past four years. With another year in Drake Mage's offense, I see Stevenson benefitting greatly from the game script. I think the Patriots will lean on the run heavy to set up play action for AJ Brown, and they are going to face some of the weaker run defenses in the league.

Their division mates were all bottom 6 in rush defense last year, plus games against Chicago, Las Vegas, Minnesota, revamped Steelers.

I'm not saying he's going to be a high end RB, but I've seen drafts where Henderson, Jaylen Warren, Pollard, Brooks go ahead of him, and in my opinion his situation in NE should propel him over those guys.

Injury Report Ja’Marr Chase will be limited through this week, but Bengals HC Zac Taylor “feels good about him.” WR Tee Higgins is dealing with a heel contusion, but it is not a major concern for Week 1. Per Ben Baby.

Player Discussion Over the offseason, Jameson Williams was dedicated to expanding his route tree. He developed sharp, decisive footwork to pair with his sub 4.2 speed. Willams is a breakout candidate with elite physical maturation, route-running refinements, and an offensive scheme tailored to explode vertically.

Low-Quality Discussion In my honest opinion, Labor Day should be the Unofficial National Fantasy Draft Day

I look at it like this, it’s already a holiday. Pretty much no one’s at work. It’s always the Monday of Opening Kickoff week. Most people will be having their last summer BBQs that day, so why not also have your fantasy draft there too. It just seems like the perfect day to hold Fantasy Drafts to me.
Also, this is a low quality discussion but for some reason I can find the flair for it.

Truly just vibes based; you get the ick. Objectively, they’re a good pick, but when you’re on the clock, you’re meh about them and go in a different direction.
