Question Questions Regarding Quality of Convoy's Compared to Hanks Products

Upvotes

Hi guys I have questions.

1: How does the build quality and durability of Hank's flashlights compare to Convoy products? Which are more durable?

2: Why does Hank split his flashlight business into two separate brands, Emisar and Noctigon? Is there a difference between the flashlights sold by both brands?

3: Does Hank offer emitters that have higher CRI than the highest CRI emitter available from Convoy (seems to be the B35AM)?

4: Are there any rosy emitters that Hank offers? Or rosy emitters from Convoy?

Thanks in advance for any answers :))))

Why did my NiMH AA grow? These two are in both of my daughter's T3's. We are going camping, so I went to charge them up and noticed one wouldn't slide into the charger. Is this cell unsafe/toasted? If so I'm very glad this wasn't a lithium cell, I'm pretty diligent about fixing any rips in the skin on those though. Btw these are the Amazon basics from back when they were rebranded enloops. Made in Japan.

I am pretty excited. I just finished charging it and it’s ready to go test, it’s only 4 o’clock so now I have to sit here and stare at it for a couple hours. Maybe a few hours, I want it to be as dark as can be.

I will have the:
T29 SFT-42R 6500K
L19 2.0 OSRAM KP CSLPM1.F1 Green
P20** **mini Luminus SFT-60-W 6500K
Wurkkos Luminus SBT90.2 5700K

i’ll try to get a good beam comparison, I don’t live in an area where I have that much freedom but I’ll see what I can put together

Hey guys, I run nods ( analog night vision ) i've been trying to find a small infared flashlight, ideally something I can strap to a finger for rummaging around in a pack or car if need be, any recommendations? There doesn't seem to be much out there.

HMD Nokia 300

It comes with a "super bright" LED built in.

Interesting but how many lumens really? :)

Makes me think a bit of my Garmin Instinct watch with built in LED. It's not super bright and eats through the tiny battery but man I use it a lot!

Question 365nm UV for a noob: Convoy S2+ vs Darkbeam B69

Been reading a lot of reviews. I have minimal needs for a UV light but... I want one. Pet urine, scorpion finding (for a short desert vacation trip coming up), charging watch lume, hotel sanitation (not sure if I really want to know since I travel so much...).

I know enthusiasts love the Convoy and the Darkbeam seems more "consumer grade. But there's 4 advantages to the Darkbeam IMO:

Onboard charging

More light output

$15 vs $26 and shipping by Amazon vs Convoy

Zoom

I really like zoom lenses over the flood and spot model. Flood and spot is a compromise for cheapness and durability, which is great, but I've never had a zoom model fail (and I only have a few cheapos). I'm not worried about waterproofing and major banging around. A solid fill beam and an on-demand solid spot beam (even if zooming is inefficient) seems better than dealing with the unevenness of a spot and fill reflector.

It looks like both will need an optical filter. Admittedly Convoy makes the additional filter cheap and easy ($0.69) while buying a separate filter for the Darkbeam will be harder and more expensive.

Assuming both have a decent ZWB2 filter, will the Darkbeam really be much dirtier or will it still be brighter? Is there some reason why the reflector Convoy is a better option than a zoom that I'm missing?

Flashlight News My H300 arrived with an H300 V4+ manual

It appears my H300 manual is updated and I can’t find any information on it anywhere.

The manual states it’s a V4+ and the runtimes in the manual distinctly separate TIR and Reflector variations of the same emitter, which isn’t what’s listed on the site anywhere at all.

I know people were getting some funky results between the same emitter and the R and TIR variants and I guess this proves Skilhunt is now acknowledging that.

Question Surefire G2X clone?

Clone G2X Pro?

Purchased a G2X Pro on eBay.
Asked the seller if it’s authentic. Response was yes.
I compared to my genuine G2X Pro. Differences in weight, bezel, and light color. Also the chip inside the light body is different. This is a model that has 600 lumens laser etched. Versus my genuine 600 lumen does not. Mine may be an older style. Also, the tail cap clicks feel different. For those that have a G2X pro with a laser etched marking, can you look into the light body and tell me if chip board looks like mine?

Pic 1. Genuine on the left.
Pic 2. Genuine.
Pic 3. Clone? Note the markings.
Pic 4. Note the sticker is really weird. I have a dozen Surefires. Never had a sticker misprint.

I usually buy at a store. Bought this on eBay for $60.

Recommendation Looking for a pocket friendly EDC flashlight

Hello,

I'm in search of a flashlight that will be comfortable to carry around in a pocket, ideally being both throwy and floody, with a decent amount of lumens and runtime and with replaceable batteries. The Loopgear SK05 PRO 2 UV seems to match this profile along with extra features like the UV light and the power bank function, but I was wondering if there were perhaps any better options that the community would have in mind. My budget is about 100€ though if a flashlight is a little more expensive but worth it I'd go the extra mile. Any and all feedback is appreciated as I don't have much experience and this will technically be my first flashlight. Thanks in advance!

TIR Lens position (leveled with the LED surface ?)

Hi everyone,

I already search a bit on the forum and couldn't find my answers.

So I am using the SFT42R (amazing throw !) with a 3° TIR lens from Convoy. Problem is that their 5050 gasket for a 10mm TIR lens is too small : the lens does not contact with the gasket, but directly on the LED PCB. Meaning the LED is 0.5/1mm too deep inside the lens.

I tried to play with the lens position to evaluate light intensity output, but it is complicated, 0.5mm off, too deep, too shallow, too much on the left or the right and light intensity output varies a lot then !

Do you have information about the proper level of the base of the lens compared to the flat surface of the LED ? If you have a good webshop to buy gasket your happy with I'd love to !

Thank you for your help !

Victor

What kind of flashlight would be suitable to block someone from filming me on their phones?

If someone is filming me in a dispute in a bullying way I'm just thinking is there a kind of light I could use that would block the sensor so the recordings will just be a blank screen?

FW3S is probably the most beautiful light in my collection. When I need a quick light (most of the time it is fixing something), flipmate is the first one I grab. It has incredible strong magnet and very flexible, durable hinge.

Ultimate flashlight meets ultimate power

As soon as I saw it for sale I ordered this 6800mAh beast from Vapcell, currently testting it's capacity so will post back with result.

It seems IF23 is completely replaced by IF23 Pro which I dislike because of rotary button, missed a chance to buy another one as reserve so will have to take extra care of it ❤️

Recommendation Headlamp that will hold 200 lumens

I want to add a headlamp (no Nitecore please add I already own a few of those) that will hold 200 lumens for at least 4 hours, using a compact form factor. So basically 14500 or 18350 size or a custom battery if it meets runtime and is not a chunky beast.

If it drops down within that 4 hours it must drop to at least 200 lumens so it might start higher, but I really don't care if it starts higher so long as it holds 200. Ideally, it would just be a 200 lumen mode, regulated and dies around 4 hours.

If it's a 90 degrees flashlight that can be doubled into a head lamp that's a bonus too.

Can it be done with those batteries?

Closest I've found so far and I've been looking all afternoon is Fenix HM-53R. Looking at that run chart there is a mode that starts at 350 lumens and runs for 5 hours 34 minutes. However it dropped down within first 30 minutes to between 130-350 lumens. Looks a little under half way so I'm estimating and hoping it's around 200 lumens. Graph shows it holds that well past 4 hours.

I may pull the trigger on the Fenix but thought I'd ask here first.

What do you guys think of the icon work light? The battery is not removable without disassembly. The 18650 battery has a plug, not sure if it is available anywhere.

Question Pocket light recommendations

Hey folks, I'm looking for a small pocket light to edc.

I like the looks of the Streamlight Microstream, the USB one. I also am looking at the Olight I3T 2 EOS.

I am looking for something around that size, around $15-40, and preferably around 150-300 lumens. I noticed the battery life isn't that high on those, that's why I was leaning towards the rechargeable one. It may be a stupid question, but are there options with higher battery lifes?

I'm wondering what your guys' thoughts are on this lights, how they've treated you, and if you have any other recommendations I should look at.

Thanks!

Discussion Maglite and its role in modern times

Many people are probably wondering the same thing I am: how exactly does their business work nowadays, when even some of the cheapest flashlights you can find in a store are “just as good”?

From what I understand, their reputation came from the fact that they were/are basically the G-Shock of the watch world — extremely durable and built to last. They also sell spare parts and accessories for their flashlights, which is a big plus.

Another major contradiction is that many of their flashlights are only IPX4-rated, which doesn’t look particularly impressive on paper when other brands offer flashlights that can actually be fully submerged in water.

I’m not from the US, so I’m wondering: are Maglites still sold in regular, well-stocked stores, or have they basically become an online-only brand?

It’s a really contradictory brand, but apparently the business model still works, because they’re still selling flashlights.
