Hi, I’m planning with my friends to go to our first larp next year, which would be DrachenFest in Pennsylvania, USA.

I’m planning to go as a bard & will be bringing my tenor recorder (slightly lower than a traditional concert flute, which I’ve played for 7 years).

I like sewing cosplay and I saw this historical Chinese sewing pattern which would technically fit medieval time frame. These pieces were popular during the Tang - Ming Dynasty aka 600s - 1600s.

Additionally, from my quick research it seems the bards / musicians of the time would also wear this attire, so it would match my character. At that time period, the Chinese vertical flute was popular, and similar (a stretch my instrument is plastic) to what I’ll be playing.

(If it matters this is traditionally a man’s outfit and I’m a woman so I’d already be breaking that historical accuracy, not so sure how much that matters & my hat would not match the time period as I’m planning to get a big brimmed leather or wool hat from the ren faire)

Why I want to wear this:

1. Looks cool
2. Historically accurate-ish time (matches medieval period & what a musician would wear)
3. Will keep me fully covered from the sun because I burn easily & also covered in tattoos and don’t want them to get sun damaged
   
4. Easy to sew (compared to jester puffy paned slashed sleeves)

My Questions:

1. Would it be inappropriate for me to wear this as I am not Chinese (Irish genes)

2. Would this be appropriate to wear to DrachenFest USA or nah

Been trying to find them for a hot minute now, what are they?

At most of the LARPs I’ve attended here in Scandinavia, fresh food around camp is pretty uncommon.

There usually aren’t any outdoor fridges available, and depending on the LARP, modern equipment like coolers can either be kept hidden away or avoided altogether. Because of that, people tend to bring dry, smoked, canned, pickled, or otherwise preserved food.

I’ve occasionally seen people bring fresh meat for the first day, and some groups will make a shopping trip during the event to restock on fresh food.

That got me wondering about potting food, especially meat preserved under a layer of butter, clarified butter, or lard.

Historically, things like potted meat were stored by cooking the meat and sealing it underneath fat to reduce its exposure to air. It also seems like the sort of food that would fit very naturally into a medieval/fantasy LARP camp.

Has anyone here actually tried making potted meat or similar preserved foods specifically for a multi-day LARP?

I’m especially interested in things like beef, pork, chicken, salmon, or other fish/meats. I’d be curious to hear which ones actually work well for this kind of preservation and which ones are better avoided.

What did you make, how long did you keep it at camp, and how did you store it?

I'm particularly interested in foods that can safely survive a few days without refrigeration while still feeling appropriate to serve around an in-character camp.

Recipes, experiences, historical preservation methods, or other LARP-friendly food suggestions are very welcome.

Solo dev. I am building a mini-MMO deckbuilder with full loot PvP. It's called Manala inspired by a local LARP (Nordic Equinox) and the character art is based on photographs of real LARPers. Consent from the players and has been collected, with avoidance of any licensed gear, chars etc.

The art in the current demo is genAI and I'm working together with the artist in the team to replace it. The look we're going for with the graphics is early 90s Mortal Kombat.

The mage proof of concept in the post is myself. I'm thinking that after I launch the full game, I'd like to include an encyclopedia of the characters and/or any gear they've inspired in the game.

I'm not aware of any other videogames that have tried to evoke a "you're at a LARP" vibe which I'm aiming to do. Some things that aim in that direction are actions that allow you to cheat the rules (forgetting to count hit points, yelling STOP! at an inappropriate time etc) and NPCs such as First-Time LARPer and GMs. Mages and healers won't be distinguished by a "THIS IS A MAGE" tab over their head, but rather by blue or yellow armbands etc. I'd love to hear about other tropes that would give the game a more LARP-like vibe.

Jeder kann mitmachen, jeder kann sich hier auch bei dem kleinen Umzug beteiligen, es ist wirklich eine schöne Veranstaltung von Fans für Fans.

I've never LARPed before but I do dress up for Ren Faire every year. I'd love to get more use out of my outfit because I put a lot of money into it. I already play DnD so LARP seems like the next logical step.

I'm in New England, specifically Rhode Island, so I'm googling the LARPs in my area. Myth seems good but I saw there was bad blood between the production team a few years ago and if I'm going to a LARP I'd like to support one where the support and production team are treated well. If Myth has gotten better great, I don't need to look any further. Otherwise I'll pivot. Any recommendations for where to look?

So I got back from my first ever LARP event yesterday! It was… a lot 😅 I had fun and I’m very much looking forward to the next event but I did feel like I spent most of my time at The Gathering just bumbling about, watching things from afar and being very confused.

I‘ve realised that combat probably isn’t for me (due to the expensive nature of weapons and armour phys reps, the insane quick thinking you have to have to understand calls while fighting, and general sensory overload things!).

But LT seems to be a very combat-focused system. Any time people around camp would be talking about skills they want to take, they always sounded combat based, whether that be weapon use or spell use. And so I just wonder what I could actually do and how I could progress in a way that’s not combat-focused?

I think I want to get involved in ritual organisation, not running them per se, but finding contributors, etc and doing the prep work. And then I’m very interested in joining the Alchemists’ Guild.

But both of these things seem to need a good understanding of lots of things and I can’t seem to find any solid steps to where I want to be. Not to mention that finding contributors and selling potions are going to be very reliant on me knowing characters around the field, which I don’t because I’m new (and also socially anxious but I’ll work on it).

So my question to you is, what can I actually do as a non-combat new player who’s a bit overwhelmed by it all?

1.) Has anyone seen/have pics of a custom with the steel blue color? That's the color of the middle color palette, and I'm concerned it might be too colorful IRL

2.) Which color scheme do you people think looks best?

Hello, I recently became staff at a LARP that is very good about accessibility, and accommodating disabled players and anyone that just doesn't want to do combat. I'm supposed to come up with ideas that are more than the standard "sit around and do a puzzle" because that gets old fast. Problem is, I have never written a mod before and have no idea what to do. Most noncom stuff I've found so far doesn't account for limited mobility so walking from cabin to cabin for example is out. Ideally I'd want something we could all sit in the tavern and do together but I'm open to ideas. Any suggestions or even pointed to resources would be very appreciated. Thank you!

I recently got a new waistcoat for my Captain Jack Sparrow cosplay. It was custom made to be as close as possible to Jack’s waistcoat from Pirates 1-3. It’s a dark navy blue and I’m trying to make it look more of a sun bleached look. I know I can use bleach and water to spray and create the effect but are there any less permanent methods. Here are pictures of the waistcoat in this order.

Any ideas on other methods I can use to not only lighten it but also give it that aubergine color that Jacks has?

2. Altered using talc powder to lighten (7-9)

Functional handmade leather Dragon Hand Puppet / Familiar, keeps the hand free, as it’s hooked on fingers and around the wrist.

I went LARP’ing a few weeks ago. Joined a warlock guild and can make pacts with powerful entities. Made one that gives me the ability to create powerful wish objects. But of course there’s a to make these objects that I won’t detail here.

I have already bought some cheap items I wanna change next LARP. I want my character to reflect being able to create powerful stuff while also giving a bit of a “merchant with slight mania” vibe to it. Any suggestions?

EDIT: my character is an ice elf and comes from a cult. The god of the cult has dice as their symbol. Hence the many references to dice with the character.

Had so much fun at Hynafol Riverdie ball. Can wait for the courtly nights!

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask but is there any way to fix the straps on this chestplate. I got it from mytholon, it's actually meant to be the replacement one and the straps were just as bad on the last.

Is there a way to make it at least somewhat more wearable without completely removing the rivets and straps or completely replacing them?
