hi

it's been a minute, how is everyone.

we've reopened the subreddit mostly cos the admins threatened us with putting scabs in the mod team lol, but i think it's probably a good time to see what people still think about the subreddit.

given that this is subreddit is almost a decade old, i was thinking that maybe we should do something interesting with it, since it's been a fair few years since there's been much activity back to it's peak in like 2015/2016.

Will you restrict posts in solidarity with other subs

No, I don't rly see the point since the activity on the subreddit isn't that high so it won't matter too much

what'd you have in mind to spice shit up

tbh idk, i don't use reddit too much anymore but i think it'd be a nice time waster for me if i started running weekly stuff like music

new mods?

i mean, the sub doesn't need more mods but most of the team (me included) doesn't use reddit much anymore

give me some ideas!

Somebody Needs to Ruin TikTok Nostalgia Reels on Purpose

We need a dedicated parody account that only makes dark versions of those TikTok nostalgia reels.

You know the ones. Soft music, grainy home photos, captions like “POV: you’re a 2000s kid and summer felt infinite.” Everything is golden hour and friendship bracelets and the implied promise that the past was gentle.

Now invert it.

First format: the honest awful childhood reel. Same editing style, same emotional music, but the footage is the actual texture of the era for a lot of people. Cigarette smoke in the car, screaming through the wall, the specific smell of a house that was always slightly angry. Captions still written in that dreamy nostalgia font: “POV: it’s 2003 and you’re praying the fight downstairs ends before it gets to your door.” The contrast would be devastating and extremely funny.

Second format: the bait-and-switch creepypasta reel. It starts completely normal. Same warm filters, same “remember when” text, same comforting energy. You’re halfway through feeling soft about the past… and then the video keeps going. The smile in the old camcorder footage lasts a second too long. A familiar hallway is suddenly wrong. The music doesn’t change, which makes it worse. By the end you’re watching something that feels like an analog horror short that accidentally got uploaded to the nostalgia side of the app.

Somebody do this. The algorithm is already begging for it.

The past generations were better, if you conveniently ignore the bad parts

The context of this was a post that was mocking an article that was railing against adult children living at home (on fuckalegriaart).

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s troubling that western culture has been so heavily individualized, but so many people think past family dynamics were all rosy and wholesome, ignoring the many actual issues such as the fact that (mainly in collectivistic cultures) that you were expected to defer to anyone older than you, no matter what, and that women were not given a choice when it came to child raising.

Can't believe I used to watch this slop in the first place. I feel like I was being brainwashed into thinking Disney movies suck because of "wokeness" when I'm still allowed to watch and enjoy them myself. Alright, the company might suck but they can still do good or decent movies when they want too ignoring their dumb live action remakes.

I gotta love how it didn't include the 3DS, PS3, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, but a frickin scooter of all things.

Yes, cheap skipping CD-Rs, your car and house being unnecessarily cluttered with them, and your computer being overloaded with malware was "fun."
