#LinuxMintThings Looking for the ultimate fast, highly customizable terminal emulator

Post image
Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m hunting for a blazing-fast terminal emulator that lets me heavily customize specific behaviors. I've already tried Alacritty, WezTerm, Kitty, and Konsole, but I ran into issues or roadblocks with all of them for my specific workflow.

Before I keep searching, I want to know if any terminal can handle this exact configuration:

  • Performance: Must be exceptionally fast and lightweight (GPU-accelerated preferred).
  • Window Snapping: Automatically launch or snap to the left half of the monitor.
  • Keybindings: Rebind Ctrl + C to copy and Ctrl + V to paste
  • Mouse Action: Open a fresh command-line window/tab when clicking the middle mouse button.

If you know of a terminal emulator that checks every single one of these boxes—and can bypass the limitations I hit with Alacritty, WezTerm, Kitty, and Konsole—please drop your recommendations or config snippets below!

Discussion What will be in the December?

Upvotes

bcz of some issues like my eyes(this is why I need the fractional scaling) for example, I switched from Mint to Kubuntu. I'd like to ask(if it's possible to know) what will we have in the 23 version, which should come in the December? Just I love Mint for using everyday things, but unfortunately it's uncomfortable to use for me now

Support Request In the Calendar applet, when you click to see the month popup, is there any way to change the date from MMMM D, YYYY?

Upvotes

I can change the date format on the panel, and on the popup tab. But not on the calendar itself. It's a small thing, but as a non-American it's also a bit maddening. Like water torture.

Changing the locale makes no difference. Am I overlooking something obvious?

Discussion I Installed Linux Mint Today

Upvotes

Earlier today I decided to install linux mint on my older lenovo thinkpad laptop computer. Previously it had windows 11 pro installed on it. I'm really liking the software already, I've got one issue that I can't seem to figure out how to correct. I've got my laptop video hooked up to a thirty two inch digital TV , but I've got the same video image showing on my laptop as well as my television and I only want the image showing on my television and so far I can't seem to figure out how to get it setup that way.

Discussion Verify iso image

Evening all.

How important is it to verify the ISO image?
I’ve had a go a few times and I’m not quite grasping it. I’m not new to computers but I’ve never done anything like that. I’m gonna use the university of Kent mirror.
Does anybody still do this or not bother.

I got a warning that I had 0 space left in /, but that's not what 'df -h /' says. Edited: Correction, lsblk says 29G, du -ch / says 23G.

Discussion Btrfs : Anecdotal thoughts?

I'm dual-booting Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.3 with Windows 11 Pro. It's easy enough for me to change things up, so I wonder if making the change from EXT4 to Btrfs is worth the effort.

If anybody is using the Btrfs file system with their Linux, how are things going?

Support Request Optimize laptop

Hi, I have a question. I have a 2015 Dell Inspiron 15 3552 with 4GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD, and an Intel Celeron N3060 (1.60GHz) processor. I plan to use it for things like NetBeans, web browsing, and watching videos—basically just the essentials, since it's the only computer I have for my programming course. I currently have Linux Mint XFCE installed, but it still feels a bit slow. What do you recommend?

I have a 32” ultrawide and a 24” secondary monitor. I can’t get the system to recognize the 32” unltrawide as monitor 1. Which is causing my games to load onto the 24”. I have set it as the primary. The only way I can get it to recognize it as monitor 1 is to move it, in the layout box, to the right of monitor 2 which means I have to pan to the left of my main monitor to get the cursor on the monitor to the right. I have had to unplug my secondary monitor, load a game then replug it in, and that’s just not a long term solution for me.

Can someone help me out here? Thanks!

Support Request Volume Issue-Keeps resetting back to 46%

I did a fresh install of Linux Mint. My master volume remains permanently stuck at 46%. Whenever I try to set it a different volume, it will briefly be at the selected level and then immediately revert back to 46%. It does this no matter what method I use to change the volume, whether it be through the actual volume bar itself or through a command.

Any idea what might be going on?

I am from Caracas, Venezuela..... I switched to Linux Mint because I used to have a very old pc tower with an i7 first gen running Windows 11. I distro-hopped a lot, tried Cachy OS, BigLinux, MX Linux, Fedora, OpenSUSE, but man, nothing compares to the rock-solid stability of LMDE 7. When you start learning to customize it and actually enjoy doing it, you are imparable! Now I have a Ryzen 5 3550H with 32gb of RAM and this thing is a freaking rocket!
