So, i found out recently in my inbox August 29 that i got a message from claude in one of my sub google account and not my main one that a malware has been stealing my login sessions in my mac or other computers (windows Os) i went to activity and check CPU and try to see if there is any unusual programs running a background and there was nothing, I know mac has xprotect that runs in the background each time an application is running. This worries me quite a bit since a question arises like how do Claude even know i have malware in my mac? and how do i fix this? do i need a dedicated malware/virus scanner? since my mac m1 with the latest software has already really powerful built-in security systems.

i want to clean my macbooks keyboard, but i dont want to send 1241+ emails to people i don't know while ordering 20 apple polishing cloths at the same time while rubbing a paper towel over it.

I tried to airdrop 500 photos from my iphone to my macbook air. According to my phone and computer the transfer was successful, only problem is, it was not. No actual content appears to have been transferred and I now have 500 greyed out zeroK files in my download folder. I tried to delete them but cannot. I tried to redo the airdrop transfer, but now every time I try to airdrop the photos, I get a "failed" message on my iphone. How can I get rid of the zerok files, and get airdrop working again?

Airdrop really doesn't seem to work very well at all for large batches of files. I am having nothing but problems today attempting to transfer photos from my phone using it. Is there a third party app I should check out that is less buggy and more efficient?

It sets it down to 1,500 instead of the 1,800 or +300 dollars for 1tb of storage when I could just get a ExHD, is this worth it or no?

I am new to modern macs and i bought a used 100 battery health m1 air. it works fine but now it's giving me a bit of trouble. No matter what i do it will still charge to 100 even when it's set 80% max charge. Can anyone tell me why this keeps happening, i use it on battery power almost everyday. thank you.

I have chronic pain and even though it’s a light enough laptop, added with my other daily stuff, it is killing my body to carry this thing around with me (14” 2023 Macbook Pro). I would love to switch to something lighter (like an Air) while I can still get some $ while trading in my current one.

I mainly use my computer for sound/audio processing, graphic/publication design, photo editing/scanning, and very minimal video. I do often work with up to 10 inputs and 10 outputs on the audio interface but I generally don’t even seem to reach 20% in Ableton’s “CPU load” meter.

It seems at this point, considering I’ve had Macbooks and Macbook Airs before the M chips that were operating from “ok" to "fine but not great” re: audio production (though, my usage was also more basic), these new chips make an Air just as good or better than regular pre- or early M chip Macbook Pros? Is this true? I don’t care about AI stuff, display, aesthetic features, ports, or anything else except what would affect speed and performance with respect to creative softwares that may need some extra power to run.

Comparison lists when I search are not specific to pro vs. non-pro chips from such different releases, and they just list a bunch of numbers that look impressive, but I don’t understand what it means aside from shiny capitalist optics. However, I’m sure some of these changes and upgrades sometimes do mean something significant. So, I’d love some help in regular language from someone who understands running creative software, figuring out if I will regret a switch to help lighten the load. I have a feeling the switch will be just fine, just want to be certain :)

It’s wild to think about the double standard in desktop operating systems.

If you want to run Windows on a Mac, Apple makes it incredibly easy. For years we had Boot Camp, and now we have seamless virtualization through Parallels or VirtualBox. Microsoft is perfectly fine with you buying a Windows license and using it on Apple hardware.

But the second you try to run macOS on a Windows PC (Apps like Hackintosh or VirualBox let you), you are literally violating Apple’s End User License Agreement (EULA).

Apple’s software terms explicitly state that macOS can only be installed and run on Apple-branded hardware. Doing otherwise technically violates their copyright and licensing agreements.

Why do you think Apple fights so hard to keep their ecosystem locked down compared to Microsoft, and do you think the "Hackintosh" era is officially dead now that Apple Silicon (M-series chips) is the standard?

Are these scratches on the apple logo on my new m5 mac air? I have severe ocd and these are out of the box, is it really common to have these? Its only visible under specific angles and with a light source. The store is refusing a replacement as i live in india and they're saying its a cosmetic issue and cant be replaced. I purchased it from official apple premium partner (imagine). Please help me out.

Been dealing with some cybersecurity issues for the past month. Bought a brand new MBP and as soon as I set up via Ethernet it started glitching. Brand new router + device. After activation, removed from LAN. Never went back online or signed into Apple ID. It also had SQLite and kerebos installed while I was offline.

Looked through the folders to find these random folders. Found in logs some apps were downloaded while I was offline (shut down, not fast start up), on days I never had it on. Battery was down quite a bit. Can someone take a look at these screenshots? Right after I took the screenshots I went out of the folder and things were deleted and now I’m the deleted cache folder. Any help appreciated.

I got an older mac monitor for free, and I'm hoping I can connect it to my Macbook Air (5 years old) to use as a second screen. The inputs on the monitor (pictured) are different than newer macs.

Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, is there a specific adaptor I can buy?

I am a Software engineer, Working from home these days, My personal laptop a Lenovo ideapad 4GB/1TB i5 7th Gen , is more than dead for me after i used Macbook Pro M2 for almost 2 years back in my previous organization , I fell in love with the machine so much so , it made me love my work also , which obs helped me grow in my career, But since i am out of that org now and in my current org i have decent machine a HP probook with 32 GB ram and Ryzen 7 for processor, but that machine is so restricted that i cant learn much on it .

I have a 2019 MacBook Pro 16 inch that has an intel chip and I am on the latest macOS version and I just found out the Touch Bar is supposed to have Liquid Glass effects on it but on my Mac I don't have Liquid Glass effects, everything on the Touch Bar has the macOS 15 design, is there any way to make Liquid Glass effects to show up on the Touch Bar?

Can I really not use this old Mac as a second monitor? I've tried all the ways and hacks. And HDMI cords. I don't want to pay for a subscription to "possibly" do this.

There's really no other way around it other than get an Mac model that has target display?

Hey everyone,I recently noticed my 14-inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro is only getting about 4 hours of battery life. I’m a bit surprised because I always hear people hyping up how long these chips last.My typical usage isn't crazy heavy—I just keep YouTube open in Google Chrome and I don't use power saving mode.

I checked my battery stats, and my battery health is at 92% with 144 cycle counts, so the battery itself seems pretty healthy.Is anyone else getting battery life this short just streaming video on Chrome? Is Chrome really that much of a battery hog on macOS, or should I be worried about a hardware issue and take it to Apple?
